DAVV to introduce subject codes for upcoming exams to avoid confusion
Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) is set to implement a major change in its examination system from July onwards. To eliminate confusion caused by subjects having similar names, the university will now assign separate codes to each subject. These codes will be displayed alongside subject names in the examination timetable, ensuring greater clarity for students.
The decision was taken under the directives of vice-chancellor Dr Rakesh Singhai after several complaints were received from students. With introduction of National Education Policy (NEP), the number of undergraduate subjects at DAVV exceeded 250, leading to instances where subjects with similar names caused confusion among examinees. In some cases, students even missed their exams due to misunderstandings regarding subject selection.
A recent example involved BCom students who opted for Personal Tax Planning under the vocational stream, but, mistakenly appeared for the elective paper due to the similarity in subject titles. This issue was highlighted during a recent meeting convened to review examination and result-related concerns, prompting immediate administrative action.
Controller of examinations Dr Ashesh Tiwari said the new coding system will be implemented for the undergraduate first-year examinations and postgraduate second and fourth semester exams scheduled from July. Vocational and elective subjects, though similarly titled, have entirely different syllabi—vocational subjects include both theory and practical components, while electives are theory-based only.

Ayodhya Ram Mandir: 45kg gold worth Rs 50 crore used; public access to Ram Darbar restricted AYODHYA : Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the Ram Temple Construction Committee, said 45kg of pure gold was used in the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The trust will finalize a plan for public access at a forthcoming meeting, Mishra said. The consecration ceremony has drawn large crowds to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. As the Ram Darbar is 20-foot-high and requires devotees to climb nearly 40 steps, there are limited arrangements for going up, and the lift's construction will take time, Rai said. "A lift is being constructed for elderly devotees, but it will take time to complete. Devotees will have to wait to visit the Ram Darbar due to unfavourable conditions and, after the rainy season, public visits may be possible," Rai said. The final task will be to hoist the flag on the temple's shikhara, likely in Oct or Nov, once the weather is favourable. Until then, minor works will be completed, Rai said. Students worry as number of intermediate seats ‘shrink'
1 2 3 Ranchi: As the race to secure admissions in intermediate courses in city's educational institutes gets tighter, students, who are eyeing to secure seats, are getting worried over the lesser number of seats up for grabs. Students of the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), whose matriculation results were announced after ICSE and CBSE boards, even though are applying both on offline and online modes, they are facing a tight competition after several degree colleges in the city stopped admissions in intermediate courses from last year. By the time the JAC results were published, several institutions had already begun the admission process, leaving limited opportunities for JAC candidates. Out of 3.95 lakh students who passed JAC matric exams this year, over 30,000 are from Ranchi alone. With overwhelming number of applications, some institutions have submitted requests to the JAC seeking an increase in seat allotments. St. Xavier's College has sold 2,000 applications so far for 384 seats across all streams. Admissions will be conducted based on an entrance examination.
