Serial killer fear grips Pretoria as 5th woman's body found
Pretoria Rekord reports that five women have been found murdered in East of Pretoria since June, four burnt beyond recognition along a railway line, and one partially buried in a field.
The discovery of the latest body has fuelled growing fears of a serial killer.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili, the Silverton police were called to a scene where the fourth burnt body was discovered at Watloo train station in Stormvoël street in Silvertondale at about 15:30 on Monday.
Three burnt bodies were found between Waltloo and Denneboom train stations between June and July.
'No one has been arrested yet, but the task team established to investigate the murders is working around the clock following possible leads to trace the perpetrators,' says Muridili.
She adds that the team comprises seasoned detectives, crime intelligence, forensic and crime scene experts.
Police are not ruling out the possibility of a serial killer. Muridili confirmed that forensic experts are part of the task team working to determine whether the cases are connected.
Eersterust murder: Suspect arrested
This comes just hours after a suspect was arrested in connection with the separate murder in Eersterust.
In this case, a 30-year-old woman was found partially buried with a shirt around her neck in an open field on Swartberg Street in Eersterust last Thursday. The victim had been reported missing on July 4.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said a member of the Limpopo Tracking Team, the Limpopo Provincial Investigation Unit, the Silverton Detectives, the Tshwane FCS, and Tshwane District Detectives arrested a 37-year-old man in Mentz village, under the Mankweng Policing area, for her murder.
'The suspect was arrested during a joint operation conducted between the evening of Sunday and early hours of Monday, August 4, at Mentz village, under the Mankweng Policing area, in Limpopo province.'
Ledwaba said that according to information, the man used a 'Tinder' dating site to lure his victims to his residence in Eesterust in Pretoria.
'He allegedly raped some of his victims, until the recent incident wherein he raped and killed the victim, [and] thereafter buried her in a shallow grave [at] his residence. The matter was brought to the police's attention, and massive investigations were conducted.'
The man has been linked to over ten cases of rape and murder.
People who suspect that they have been victims of this man are urged to report to their local police stations to assist the police with ongoing investigations.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist either investigation to come forward by contacting their nearest station or calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Tip-offs can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS app.

Kameeldrift murders: No arrests after brutal home invasions
It has been days since two brutal murders shook the Kameeldrift community in Gauteng — yet police have made no arrests. Pretoria Rekord reports that in two separate incidents just days apart, a father of three was gunned down during a home invasion, and another resident was shot and killed on his property. Despite growing pressure from residents and grieving families desperate for justice, both cases remain unsolved. In the early hours of last Monday, 46-year-old Jaco Strydom was shot and killed during a home invasion. According to his family, Strydom woke to the sound of intruders breaking in through a sliding door. In a desperate attempt to protect his wife and three sons, he grabbed a steel pipe and confronted the armed attackers. He was shot during the struggle and collapsed in his son's bedroom. He died a hero, just hours before his youngest child's sixth birthday. Only a few days before Strydom's murder, another man was attacked and killed during a robbery. On the evening of July 24, a violent home invasion in Buffelsdrift, within the Kameeldrift policing area, resulted in the death of Mossie Mostert. One of the attackers was seen on camera walking in his yard just before four suspects — dressed in blue overalls — stormed the property. Mostert's son rushed over and found the house had been ransacked. His 82-year-old father was discovered outside, severely assaulted and tied with wires. He was transported to a hospital in Montana but was pronounced dead on arrival. Only cash and a cellphone are believed to have been stolen. Despite the murders happening in close proximity and within days of each other, no arrests have been made. Mother and 3 adult children drown during alleged cleansing ritual in dam near Mamelodi, divers recover bodies
Mother and 3 adult children drown during alleged cleansing ritual in dam near Mamelodi, divers recover bodies A mother and her three children reportedly drowned at Delfie Quarry Dam in Pienaarspoort, Mamelodi, on Sunday. Pretoria Rekord reports that details surrounding the incident are limited at this stage. According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the 51-year-old mother was allegedly performing a cleansing ritual on her daughter (36) and two sons, both in their 20s, when all four of them drowned. 'A seven-year-old girl witnessed the event from the river bank and ran home for help,' Giblin says. Upon arrival, Water Policing and Diving Services and Emergency Services found the bodies of the mother and daughter floating in the dam. Their bodies were recovered. Giblin says that due to the depth of the dam, the divers returned early on Monday morning and, after a 40-minute dive, managed to recover the bodies of the two sons. An inquest docket is under investigation by the Boschkop SAPS. People with information regarding this incident are encouraged to contact their relevant SAPS station or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
