Interactive Brokers Expands Forecast Contracts to European Market
'By extending access to Forecast Contracts in Europe, we're giving investors more ways to act on their views and manage risk through our comprehensive, global platform.' - Milan Galik, Chief Executive Officer at Interactive Brokers.
Forecast Contracts provide a straightforward way to express a view or manage risk tied to a specific event. Each Forecast Contract is based on a simple yes-or-no question. For example, an investor who believes the US Federal Reserve will raise the Fed Funds Target Rate above 3.875% at the FOMC meeting ending July 30, 2025, can purchase a 'yes' contract. If correct, the contract settles at USD 1.00. If incorrect, it settles at zero. Prices range from USD 0.02 to USD 0.99, reflecting the market's perceived probability of the outcome.
'Investors worldwide are increasingly seeking tools that help them manage event-driven risks with precision and simplicity,' said Milan Galik, Chief Executive Officer at Interactive Brokers. 'By extending access to Forecast Contracts in Europe, we're giving investors more ways to act on their views and manage risk through our comprehensive, global platform.'
Investors can trade through IBKR ForecastTrader, a dedicated web-based interface, or other Interactive Brokers platforms.
Contracts also pay an interest-like incentive coupon based on the market value of open positions. The incentive accrues daily and is paid monthly. The current annualized rate is 3.83 percent APY. This rate is subject to change and terms apply.
Forecast Contracts are available to eligible clients of Interactive Brokers LLC, Interactive Brokers Ireland Limited, Interactive Brokers Canada Inc., and Interactive Brokers Hong Kong Limited. The product is listed by ForecastEx LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Interactive Brokers and a CFTC-regulated Designated Contract Market. Availability may vary by jurisdiction and client eligibility.

Avidity Biosciences stock soars on Novartis takeover approach report
-- Avidity Biosciences (NASDAQ:RNA) stock surged 18% Wednesday after the Financial Times reported that Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis (NYSE:NVS) has approached the rare disease-focused biotech company about a potential takeover. According to the report, which cited unidentified people familiar with the matter, Novartis has been evaluating a bid for Avidity and expressed interest in an acquisition in recent weeks. Avidity is reportedly working with advisers to assess its options. The discussions are said to be at an early stage, and there is no guarantee that a deal will materialize, according to the sources cited in the report. The news also lifted shares of Dyne Therapeutics (NASDAQ:DYN), a company operating in a similar space, which also jumped 18% on Wednesday. Novartis has been actively reshaping its portfolio in recent years, focusing on high-growth areas including rare diseases. Any potential acquisition of Avidity would align with this strategy, potentially strengthening Novartis's position in the rare disease treatment market.
