Jude Bellingham could be sidelined until October following shoulder surgery

Rhyl Journal2 days ago
It was reported in May that Bellingham would have surgery following this summer's Club World Cup and on Wednesday, Real confirmed the procedure had taken place to treat a recurring dislocation of his left shoulder.
The surgery is reportedly set to sideline him until October, but the Spanish club did not confirm any length of absence, saying only that Bellingham would now 'begin a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work'.

Real said the surgery had been performed by Drs Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, under the supervision of Real Madrid Medical Services.
Bellingham is now set to miss the start of Real's LaLiga campaign and also England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
The 22-year-old and his Real team-mates came home empty-handed from the Club World Cup to round off a disappointing campaign where they finished runners-up to Barcelona in the league and fell to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Carlo Ancelotti, who stood down as Real coach at the end of the regular season but before the Club World Cup, highlighted the issue with Bellingham's shoulder back in December 2023 and said at the time: 'The shoulder is very particular.
'If it happens again or keeps happening, maybe (he will need surgery), but we will see.'

Former Lioness blasts Spain during Euro 2025 quarter-final win over Switzerland

Former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen aimed a dig at Spain during their 2-0 quarter-final victory over Switzerland at Euro 2025 on Friday. Spain secured their spot in the last four thanks to goals from Athenea del Castillo and Claudia Pina, with Switzerland reduced to 10 players late-on following a red card for Noelle Maritz. Montse Tome's side, who beat England in the 2023 World Cup final and are the main favourites to win Euro 2025, got the job done despite Mariona Caldentey and Alexia Putellas both missing penalties at Stadion Wankdorf. Spain were hugely frustrated in the first half and it wasn't until the 66th minute they broke the deadlock – the longest they've had to wait for a goal at Euro 2025 – scoring before the 22nd minute in their three group games. Christiansen, on commentary duties for the BBC, called out Spain's players in the opening 45 minutes for trying to trick the referee into giving fouls. The former Lioness also mentioned Arsenal's win over Barcelona in the Champions League final last term – in which the Spaniards were 'bullied'. 'The Spanish players are starting to act like they did in the Champions League final, the ones that played for Barcelona,' Christiansen said. 'Arsenal bullied them. I'm starting to see bits of negative body language, appealing for fouls that the referee isn't giving – and they aren't fouls.' Christiansen also blasted Caldentey and Putellas for failing to score their penalties for Spain in the ninth minute and 99th minute respectively. The ex-England star, capped 31 times, described Caldentey's penalty as 'really poorly executed' and Putellas' spot-kick as 'terrible'. Speaking after the match, Christiansen added: 'Based on tonight's performance, I don't think Spain would [get to the final] because France and Germany would [have beaten them]. 'I also think Laia Aleixandri was lucky to stay on the pitch. Spain will know they have to improve if they are to beat France or Germany. 'Spain will take confidence after being poor this evening and getting the job done.' Meanwhile, a number of former England players hailed Switzerland for their performance after the match despite their loss to Spain. Former England defender Anita Asante told the BBC: 'We knew it would be nothing short of a miracle for Switzerland to get a result tonight, but they can take heart and credit for their performance. More Trending 'This is a young team, they will bounce back and qualify for many competitions to come. They held Spain for about 60 odd minutes until they scored. That's incredible, they made it difficult, this is a world class outfit but they were frustrated by Switzerland.' Ex-England captain Steph Houghton added: 'Switzerland have done everyone proud. They're on their own journey to create a legacy. 'For those young players, it is an experience they can build on and get better.' Tierney: Brendan Rodgers' contract no distraction for Celtic

Tierney admits that the chance to work again with Rodgers was a major bonus in coming back to his boyhood club at this stage of his career, and he clearly would love the Celtic boss to hang around beyond the end of his current contract. But he is also adamant that speculation over Rodgers' future will have little impact on their collective drive for success this season. "I don't think he'll bother too much about the kind of outside noise or that,' Tierney said. Read more: 'He'll just get on with his job because he knows he's got a job to do, and as his players, we've got a job to do. And we need to do it to the best of our ability, and that takes hard work and commitment every single day, no days off and just being at it every day. 'I think with the captain that we've got, it's perfect having Callum (McGregor) and the manager as well together. It's a perfect combination. "It's amazing how much he actually works, and the effort he puts in. I think we've seen the benefits of it the other night [in the friendly win over Sporting]. (Image: SNS Group Craig Williamson) "I think we played really well, had some good passages of play against a top team. But it just shows you how passionate he is that you can still see him shouting and wanting more. 'And I think you need that if you are going to win trophies, you need to be one hundred percent, all the time. Pre-season friendly, whether it's a Champions League qualifier, Scottish Cup, league, you need to be on it every single day, even in training. You need to be on it and the manager makes sure that we are." Rodgers hardly had to give Tierney the big sell to persuade him to come back to Celtic Park, but the left-back revealed he had a laugh when pictures surfaced of the pair locked in conversation at a Celtic FC Foundation event in London last year, sending his fellow supporters into meltdown. "I knew these pictures would get out!' he said. 'It's massive [the manager being here]. I've always kept in contact with him. He always texts me in the good times and the bad times through my career, gives me a phone call. And him and John Kennedy are the two people in football that I've looked up to most and I'm closest to. 'I'm buzzing to be back with the gaffer. I loved my time under him before. We were successful together. He got the best out of me and he's a joy to work with, and I'm delighted to be back with him."

Kieran Tierney tackles Brendan Rodgers Celtic contract countdown as he spots clear sign boss' 'drive' is still there

The Parkhead star jumped at the chance to be reunited with his former gaffer and he has high hopes for the coming season Kieran Tierney insists Brendan Rodgers is as driven as ever and won't be distracted by contract countdown talk. ‌ The Celtic boss has entered the final year of his current Hoops deal and is remaining tight-lipped about his long-term plans. ‌ Tierney admitted he's thrilled to be hooking up with his old gaffer again – and he's seen no signs Rodgers is winding down to an exit. ‌ The Irishman was roaring on the touchline in Wednesday night's friendly win against Sporting Lisbon and charged up for Saturday's bounce game with Newcastle United at Celtic Park. Tierney is adamant there are no fears about the manager's motivation heading towards the new season. He said: "I don't think he'll bother too much about the kind of outside noise. ‌ 'He'll just get on with his job because he knows he's got a job to do, and as his players, we've got a job to do. "We need to do it to the best of our ability, and that takes hard work and commitment every single day, no days off and just being at it every day. 'I think with the captain that we've got, it's perfect having Callum and the manager as well together. It's a perfect combination. ‌ 'It's amazing how much the manager actually works, and what the effort he puts in. 'We saw the benefits of it the other night. 'I think we played really well the other night, some good passages of play against a top team. ‌ 'It just shows you how passionate he is that you can still see him shouting and wanting more. And I think you need that if you are going to win these trophies and that, you need to be 100 per cent all the time. 'Pre-season friendly, whether it's Champions League qualifier, Scottish Cup, League, you need to be on it every single day, even in training. You need to be on it and the manager makes sure that we are. 'He's got that, it's his drive.' ‌ Rodgers played a big role in bringing Tierney back to Celtic with fans fevered about the prospect of a second coming after the pair were snapped together at a dinner last year. The full back said: "I knew these pictures would come out! It's massive. I've always kept in contact with him. He always texts me in the good times and the bad times throughout my career, he gave me a phone call. ‌ 'I'm buzzing to be back with the gaffer. I loved my time under him before. We were successful together. He got the best out of me and it's a joy to work with and I'm delighted to be back with him.' Tierney is determined to put his injury problems behind him but he insists he has nothing to prove regarding his fitness. He said: 'No, nothing, I know how much I work professionally myself, on my body, on my recovery, being as ready as I can be for games. ‌ 'I'm not here to prove anything, I'm just here to do the best for Celtic and see where it goes. 'I know how much I focus on my body, my recovery, and doing everything I can to be in the best possible shape that I can be, so that's all I can think about. 'I can't sit and worry about what ifs or anything. I think what can I do just to be in the best condition that I can be in.' ‌ Meanwhile striker Shin Yamada is expected to rubber stamp a four-year deal over the weekend while Rodgers is still on the hunt for new faces. Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha remains high on the wishlist with the Belgians ready to lower their £5m demands while Celts are cool on talk in Romania over a move for Cluj hitman Louis Munteanu, with the 25-year-old being tracked by teams in France. Celts are set to step up their pre-season plans against Newcastle today and Tierney added: "I think always when there's a Scottish-English team playing each other, the atmosphere is going to be good, there's always going to be a bit of rivalry there. 'It's a confidence builder as well. But also it is important for the fitness side of things to get boys sharp and get boys ready, give everyone minutes and give people a chance to impress.'
