Man commits suicide at Delhi's Sangam Vihar, family cites domestic distress: Police
The body of Rohit Singh was found hanging at his home after police received a PCR call regarding the development, he said.
New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) A 25-year-old carpenter allegedly died by suicide at his residence in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area after his wife left him, a police officer said on Saturday.
'Family members informed that since the quarrel, Singh was visibly disturbed and in a state of depression,' the officer said.
Officials said after receiving the PCR call, a team from the Sangam Vihar police station reached the spot.
'On reaching the location, one Rohit Singh, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was found hanging. He worked as a carpenter. His body was shifted to the AIIMS mortuary for preservation,' the senior police officer said.
A preliminary investigation suggests that it is a case of suicide. There were no external injuries or signs of foul play, the officials added.
Based on the enquiry conducted so far, it appears that the deceased was under mental stress due to marital issues, which may have driven him to take the extreme step, police said.
No complaint has been received from the family so far and no foul play is suspected at this stage. Inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC have been initiated, the officer added.
Further investigation is underway. PTI SSJ RC

Collector slaps student during exam in MP's Bhind; says his 'strictness' busted mass copying racket
The collector of Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district was caught on camera slapping a student appearing for an examination at a local college, an action he claimed busted a mass copying racket operating at the centre. A purported video of the incident that took place on April 1 surfaced on social media on Saturday (July 13, 2025), in which Bhind Collector Sanjeev Shrivastava can be seen slapping a student multiple times at an exam centre. Talking to PTI on Sunday (July 13, 2025), Mr. Shrivastava said that his strict grilling of the boy had busted a mass copying racket. 'The incident occurred in March or April after I got a complaint about mass copying in an examination conducted by the Jiwaji University. We received information about Deendayal Danroliya College. When we reached there, everything was in order. But this boy only had the answer sheet. When I became strict with him, he spilt the beans that two maths teachers were solving the question paper outside (the centre) and will return it for mass dictation (mass copying),' the collector claimed. About slapping the boy, he said, 'That only unmasked the copying racket. The boy was initially giving evasive replies about the question paper.' The video shows the collector questioning a student inside the examination centre, and when the latter failed to respond, he was seen slapping him multiple times. The student, Rohit Rathore, was later barred from appearing for the exam and accused of sending his BSc physics question paper outside the centre to get it solved and returned. After the video went viral on social media, local reporters approached Mr. Rathore, who claimed that he had gone to the toilet during the exam and returned to find his question paper missing. 'The collector arrived suddenly and slapped me without asking anything. My ear hurt, and I wasn't given a chance to explain,' he alleged and said that a cheating case was filed against him. The collector said he wrote to Jiwaji University, Gwalior to scrap recognition of the exam centre, which is why the college management leaked their CCTV footage. 'The college belongs to the father-in-law of the deputy leader of the opposition (in the M.P. Assembly) Hemant Katare,' Mr. Shrivastava said. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party national spokesman, Yash Bhartiya, demanded an inquiry and strict action against the collector. Taking to X, Mr. Bhartiya said, 'Six days ago, the Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, while hearing a case related to the Public Works Department, commented on Srivastava's conduct, stating, 'the chief secretary must decide whether such an officer should continue to serve in the field.' Posting a video clip of the incident, he called the IAS officer violent. Tehsildar Mala Sharma, posted in Bhind, recently accused Srivastava and Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Parag Jain of mental harassment, the SP leader wrote.

Lahore boils as 'Free Imran Khan' movement begins: PTI vs Punjab Govt turns explosive! Details here
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023, with him combating several criminal cases since his tenure as PM ended. Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have maintained that these criminal charges are politically motivated, and have informally kickstarted the 'Free Imran Khan' movement less than a month before the formal commencement date of August 5. The movement kicked off with a series of protests in Lahore that were allegedly subjected to a police crackdown with several PTI members getting arrested. These protests were led by Ali Amin Gandapur, a PTI member and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who went to Lahore this Saturday night alongside other party leaders and declared the gathering the launchpad of the 'Free Imran Khan' movement. The PTI is butting heads with the Shahbaz Sharif Government The PTI is on the warpath against the current Pakistani Government currently lead by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Sharif, along with the country's military establishment, have been accused of pushing Imran Khan's politically motivated prosecution in order to silence all political opposition. Much of this narrative has been driven by Imran Khan himself, who's contested the charges brought up against him and maintained that he's innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. Medals mean nothing compared to someone who spent 30 years saving lives by building cancer hospitals. Free Imran Khan Now At least 20 PTI workers have been arrested by Lahore's police for their attempts at joining the recent protests, with a party spokesman saying: "The police have been raiding the party leaders and workers' residences in the Punjab province, especially Lahore, for the last couple of days to stop them from taking part in the protest activities." A Punjab police spokesperson denied accusations of targeting PTI party members for arrest. The 'Free Imran Khan' protests are set to ramp up on August 5 The protests against Imran Khan's incarceration are set to escalate by the time August 5 comes around. Amin Gandapur spoke out during the Saturday rally, saying: "Any protest campaign launched from Lahore earns success and this too will be successful across the country."
