UPS Explores Humanoid Robots As Figure AI Secures $675M From Jeff Bezos, OpenAI, And Intel, Targeting $9B Revenue By 2029

, the robotics company aiming to build the first commercially viable humanoid worker, recently announced it secured a staggering $675 million in funding from some of the biggest names in tech and venture capital, including Jeff Bezos, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), OpenAI, and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC).
Now valued at $2.6 billion, the San Jose, California-based startup is in talks with United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) to integrate its humanoid robots into the global shipping giant's logistics infrastructure, according to Bloomberg.

Figure AI was founded in 2022 by serial entrepreneur Brett Adcock, who previously launched Vettery and Archer Aviation (NYSE:ACHR). Adcock's bio says that his goal is to create a fully autonomous humanoid robot that can safely, efficiently, and intelligently perform a wide range of physical tasks that are currently repetitive, physically draining, or simply undesirable for human workers.
According to Bloomberg, the company's latest model, Figure 02, features integrated cabling, a torso battery, and real-time computing power using Nvidia RTX GPU-based modules. It's outfitted with 6 RGB cameras, directional microphones, speakers, and a custom-built conversational AI developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Figure 02 also boasts 16 degrees of freedom in its redesigned hands, which allow it to lift and maneuver up to 55 pounds. These capabilities are being actively tested in real-world settings, including on the factory floor at BMW.

While both UPS and rival FedEx (NYSE:FDX) have incorporated autonomous systems like sorting and ground robots into their operations, neither has implemented humanoid robots until now.
Bloomberg reported last year that UPS and Figure AI began discussions in 2023 and resumed them in early 2025 as Figure's latest model reached new performance milestones. If an agreement is finalized, UPS will become one of the first global logistics companies to pilot humanoid labor at an industrial scale.
This move comes as UPS is undergoing a significant restructuring in response to declining package volumes, particularly from major clients like Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), and economic pressures stemming from international tariffs. According to Reuters, UPS plans to cut 20,000 jobs and close 73 facilities by June, aiming to save $3.5 billion through workforce reductions, automation, and asset sales. These measures are part of UPS's strategy to adapt to shifting market dynamics and enhance operational efficiency.Adcock believes humanoid robots are the next frontier in workforce transformation. He said in a statement that Figure's vision is 'to bring humanoid robots into commercial operations as soon as possible. AI and robotics are the future, and I am grateful to have the support of investors and partners who believe in being at the forefront."
Figure's mission has always been about filling the gap where human labor is in short supply or at risk. The startup says it is building toward a future where robots can work side-by-side with humans, or even independently, across warehouses, manufacturing floors, and homes.
Figure AI is not alone in the humanoid race since competitors like Optimus, created by Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), and Agility Robotics' Digit are also vying to dominate this emerging sector. However, with backing from the world's top AI labs, chipmakers, and billionaires, Figure AI is showing that humanoid labor is no longer a sci-fi dream but a near-future solution to real-world industrial problems.

Stock futures are little changed following back-to-back winning weeks: Live updates

Traders work on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., August 12, 2025. Brendan McDermid | Reuters Stock futures are near flat Sunday night after hopes for lower interest rates fueled a winning week on Wall Street. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added just 3 points. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were also little changed. Sunday night's action comes after the three major averages notched their second straight positive week. The Dow climbed 1.7%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite rose 0.9% and 0.8%, respectively. It was also the fourth week of gains out of the last five for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. Small-cap stocks outperformed last week, jumping more than 3% as investors bet on forthcoming rate cuts from the Federal Reserve. Ross Mayfield, investment strategist at Baird Private Wealth Management, also pointed to the S&P 500 Equal Weight Consumer Discretionary index hitting an all-time high as a sign that tariff-driven economic fears may be overblown. "With the market's message quite upbeat ... it raises the question of whether the conventional wisdom about a weakening U.S. consumer and potential stagflation is missing the mark," he wrote in a Friday note. The Fed will continue to be in focus this week as central bank members travel to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for the annual economic policy symposium. Investors will be monitoring the event for clues about the future path of rates. Fed funds futures are pricing in a nearly 85% likelihood that the central bank cuts rates at its next policy meeting in September, according to CME's FedWatch tool. Beyond economic policy, traders will be monitoring earnings reports due over the course of the week as the season winds down. Big-box retailers, including Home Depot , Lowe's , Walmart and Target , are among the major companies slated to release results this week. Of the more than 92% of S&P 500 companies that have already reported this quarter, almost 82% have surpassed Wall Street's expectations, according to FactSet.

Standard Chartered added that it will 'fully cooperate' with any relevant authority. Stefanik also alleged that the New York Attorney General's Office, which helps oversee most foreign banks operating in the U.S., did not take action on allegations against Standard Chartered in the past. Stefanik is requesting that the acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey be in charge of a new probe into the British bank. Is STAN Stock a Buy? Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) Is Good But The Stock Shouldn't Have Risen Recently, Says Jim Cramer

We recently published . Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD)'s AI accelerators are the only ones in the market that can cater to AI demand on a massive scale, except for NVIDIA's products. Consequently, the firm's shares have gained 47% year-to-date as Wall Street remains bullish on the long-term prospects of AI and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD)'s ability to cater to the demand. The ability of the firm to profit from AI demand was evident from the report that Cramer discussed: '. . .there was a short story out there that NVIDIA's gonna get late with the next chip which is the Vera Rubin, and therefore the MI450 by AMD is going to be in ascendance. The story was, I'll just use a word that I think is really kind of indicative of where we are. It was a lie. It was a lie. . .it was untrue. And it caused a lot of people to buy AMD up nine and sell NVIDIA. Here are his previous thoughts about Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD): 'I think this is the pause that refreshes. I like the pullback. I'm surprised we're even getting it. I think that Lisa Su has got something big going on with this MI400, that's a competitor to NVIDIA. There's room for them even if they do billions and billions of dollars in that category. They'll get their fair share. I want you to buy some.' While we acknowledge the potential of AMD as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
