He said that his men, who are capable of playing much better, lacked confidence in themselves, and this led to their defeat.
'Personally, the players did not perform up to expectations in the final... they did not capitalise on their chances when they went ahead, and that allowed our opponents to catch up and put us under pressure.
'That is what we need to work on ahead of the SEA Games at the end of this year,' he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Yesterday, the national side lost 2-0 to arch-rivals Thailand in the team regu final of the 2025 Thai King's Cup at the Central Hatyai shopping centre in Songkhla.
The defeat means Malaysia's 34-year wait for victory in the team regu event continues, with their last win coming in the 1991 SEA Games in Manila.
Ahmad Jais, however, is not about to press the panic button as he has only had a short time to prepare the players for the Thai King's Cup.
With a few more months to go to the Dec 9-20 SEA Games in Thailand, he plans to use the time left to draw up a more effective strategy so that his men can be competitive at the biennial Games.
'For the Thai King's Cup, we only had a week to whip the team into shape. However, I don't want to use that as an excuse or reason for our lacklustre performance.

Ferrand-Prevot becomes first French rider to clinch Tour de France Femmes title
CHATEL, (France): Olympic champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot became the first Frenchwoman to win the Tour de France Femmes yesterday, pushing through three punishing climbs to clinch the final stage ahead of 2023 champion Demi Vollering, who finished second overall. The 33-year-old of team Visma–Lease a Bike held steady through the 124.1km ride from Praz-sur-Arly to Chatel, before launching a decisive attack in the last seven kilometres, and fell to the ground in tears after crossing the finish line. "I'm so, so happy," Ferrand-Prevot told reporters. "I was a bit scared with the pressure of this jersey... I had to stick to the front and just stay there." Vollering (FDJ–Suez) stayed in a group with Ferrand-Prevot for the majority of the ninth stage, but could not break away to make up her deficit of more than three minutes coming into the last day. Consider Sibu as SEA Games volleyball host, rep tells federal ministry

In making the call, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the riverine town has the capacity and ability to organise international events. 'As you are all aware, Malaysia is set to host the 2027 SEA Games, with Sarawak serving as one of the co-hosts. I am hopeful that, as a co-host, Sarawak will be able to hold the volleyball event in Sibu. 'I think this is very suitable because we have already demonstrated that we have the capacity and ability to organise these international events. So, I do urge that the federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to please give Sibu a chance to organise this high-level competition – SEA Games volleyball matches in Sibu,' he said when closing the Sarawak International Volleyball Invitational at the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium yesterday. According to him, Sibu is the powerhouse of volleyball in Sarawak. 'And we have a very long history; we have produced a lot of national players. We have all the resources from our government to back up for us to organise these SEA Games volleyball matches in Sibu. 'And I believe that all the people of Sibu will agree with me, we welcome this SEA Games volleyball event to be held in Sibu,' he said. Chieng commended the players for showcasing exceptional volleyball skills, which will inspire the people of Sibu, especially the younger generation, to take up the sport.
