Jon Jones UFC retirement raises eyebrows as hit and run charge resurfaces in court
UFC legend Jon Jones just made headlines again, but not for a fight. A surprise announcement about his retirement came out on Saturday, but that's not all. Court documents now show that the former champion is facing a criminal charge from an incident that happened months ago.
The details are shocking and involve a crash, a mysterious phone call, and strange behavior after the accident.
Jon Jones Faces Criminal Complaint From February Crash After UFC Retirement News
Charged with a misdemeanor in New Mexico for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident, former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is now accused. Though the event purportedly occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico, back on February 21, 2025, the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court filed this charge on Tuesday, June 18, 2025.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that when police arrived late at night, they found a woman seated in the front passenger seat following a collision. Though she said she had no waist-down apparel and police said Jon Jones had been driving, she escaped the site right after the collision.
The woman also told police later that she had been drinking alcohol and using mushrooms while at Jones's house. She said she remembered changing clothes at his place and then somehow ending up in the crashed car.

She claimed she didn't know how she got there.
A police aide at the scene spoke to a man believed to be Jon Jones when the woman called him from the car. That guy sounded drunk and declined to state his name. The complaint further charges that he stated he would use force and violence.
The police said that Jon Jones was interviewed days later. He called her after the accident and admitted she had left his residence after drinking.
He also said he was scared when he picked up the phone and someone else started shouting and swearing.
Court records indicate the crash occurred on February 21; the accusation was officially recorded on February 24; the complaint was at last filed in mid-June 2025.
Jon Jones Confirms Retirement Days Before Court Hearing Set For July 24
Just before this criminal charge became public, Jon Jones announced his retirement from UFC on Saturday, June 22, 2025. This came during UFC 304, where UFC President Dana White confirmed that Tom Aspinall would now be the official heavyweight champion.
Jones shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that said,
'This decision comes after a lot of reflection… I'll cherish every memory, the highs and lows, and the lessons they brought.'
Jones's bond arraignment hearing is now scheduled for July 24, 2025, in Bernalillo County.

‘Chitta' test now must during police recruitment in HP
1 2 Shimla: In a bid to curb the problem of drug menace, the Himachal cabinet, headed by chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Tuesday decided to introduce mandatory dope testing for Chitta (heroin) during police recruitment. All new govt employees will now also be required to submit an undertaking confirming they do not consume Chitta. Sukhu also made it clear that strict action would be taken against any govt employee found involved in drug-related activities. The council of ministers was informed that the drug abuse situation in Himachal Pradesh remains under control, with narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) cases accounting for 9% of the total cases, significantly lower than Punjab's 20%. During the present state govt's tenure, 45 such cases were registered, in which properties worth Rs 42.22 crore belonging to individuals involved in drug-related activities were attached. This marks a more than two-fold increase in the number of cases and a three-fold increase in the value of properties seized compared to previous periods. Also, under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic(PIT)-INDPS Act, a total of 44 detention orders were issued and successfully executed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo During the meeting, the police, social justice and empowerment, and health departments made presentations on the steps being taken to combat drug abuse in the state. Targeted attack on Jews? Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner's death in Midtown shooting raises questions
Wesley LePatner was the Blackstone executive killed in the Manhattan shooting. The Blackstone executive who was killed by 27-year-old crazed gunman Shane Tamura was a well-known Jewish figure in the community who even received an award in 2023 for her generosity to the community. The identification of the Wesley turned the random shooting into a targeted killing as many commentators said the earlier theories linking Tamura's manifesto, blaming the NFL, do not hold water after it's found that one of the victims was a Jew. Who was Wesley LePatner ? A senior managing director of financial giant Blackstone, Wesley LePatner joined Blackstone in 2014 and served as the global head of Core+ Real Estate and chief executive officer for Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust — a $53 billion property owner, according to Bloomberg. The Yale graduate previously worked at Goldman Sachs for more than a decade and serves on numerous Big Apple boards, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 'We are heartbroken to share that our colleague, Wesley LePartner, was among those who lost theor lives in the tragic incident at 345 Park Avenue,' Blackstone told The New York Post in a statement. 'Words cannot express the devastation we feel. Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be sorely missed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What Will Happen to Your Body If You Start Eating 3 Eggs Every Day? 'This has nothing to do with NFL' Right-wing commentator and President Donald Trump's aide Laura Loomer trained the gun at New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and said that the group that was behind the shooting was the same group that Mamdani was photographed with. "The Blackstone building is one of the locations that was listed as a 'Globalize the Intifada Zone of Operation' by the Palestinian jihadi group 'Within Our Lifetime' @WOLPalestine. This is the same group that @ZohranKMamdani has been photographed protesting with. Witnesses said they heard the shooter yell free Palestine. Blackstone has a Jewish CEO and the shooter shot and killed a Jewish executive. This has nothing to do with the NFL. This shooting was another targeted attack on Jews by a pro-jihadi domestic terrorist who aligned with the Palestinian movement," Loomer posted. Midtown shooting: NFL connetion of shooter Shane Tamura Mayor Eric Adams said shooter Shane Tamura probably targeted the NFL office, as a strange manifesto was found on him in which he blamed football for his brain disease CTE -- chronic traumatic encephalopathy. CTE is caused by repeated head trauma possible from playing football for a long time but Tamura never played football professionally.

'Terry Long, football gave me...': Manhattan shooter Shane Tamura's strange manifesto makes motive clear, 'They failed us'
Manhattan shooter Shane Tamura blamed NFL for his brain disease and addressed a manifesto to Terry Long. Shane Tamura, the 27-year-old crazed gunman who killed an NYPD officer, a Blackstone executive and two others in a random shooting inside a Midtown skyscraper that houses many offices, carried a strange note in his pocket. The note can be called a suicide note or a manifesto that helped investigators understand the motive behind the shooting spree. While it looked like a random killing, the note contained clear grievances with the NFL. It said Tamura suffered from CTE -- chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and he blamed football for this. Why Terry Long ? The note, running several pages, is addressed to Terry Long, the former Pittsburgh Steelers player who was diagnosed with CTE after downing antifreeze to kill himself 20 years ago. 'Terry Long, football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,' the note stated. 'You can't go against the NFL, they'll squash you," he wrote urging to study his brain after his death to learn more about CTE. 'Please study brain for CTE. I'm sorry. The league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits,' he wrote. 'They failed us.' From his manifesto, it seemed that his target was NFL office which was also in the same building. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! One NFL employee was, however, seriously injured in the shooting. Tamura, who worked as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino, never played professional football. According to reports, he only played in high school in California, where he was described as a standout football player. What is CTE ? CTE is Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated head trauma, such as concussions or even sub-concussive hits (blows that don't cause symptoms but still jolt the brain). CTE is most commonly found in football players, boxers, hockey players, military veterans. Terry Long, who played eight seasons as an offensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers, died by suicide via antifreeze poisoning in 2005. His death certificate cited suicide with football-related CTE as one of the contributors.
