Sonali Bendre recently made headlines for alleged rumours of being romantically involved with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray 20 years ago. The speculations about the politician having a crush on the actor escalated after an old video of the two went viral on social media. However, in a recent interview with ANI, Sonali responded to the rumours, and expressed her displeasure over unnecessary gossip, saying that families are involved in all of that.
Reacting to the buzz about Thackeray having a crush on her years ago, Sonali instantly said, 'Did he? I doubt it, but ya.' She further dismissed the claims over the viral video and elaborated, 'Honestly, when I spoke and I called in the video, I was talking to my sister, who was right there. Not even behind him, but I was telling my sister to come. That's the thing about this. It's just not in a very good taste when people talk about it.'
Criticising the online chatter and explaining the link between their families, she said, 'First of all, there are families and people involved. Secondly, something that till date I've never even bothered telling this, but other than the fact my brother-in-law, who is a cricketer, hence he used to play cricket with Raj's cousin. Moreover, my sister's mother-in-law was the head of department in literature at the college I am from. She knows Raj because of his father, they all know each other somehow.'

Sonali added, 'For me, the connection was that Sharmila, Raj's wife, her mother, and my Maasi were best friends. Her mother has held me for 10 days because you know how, oh, her, my mother's younger sister, Maasi. So when she delivered Raj, they all came laughing. Oh, her elder sister's baby. Let's go and see the baby. They've come to the hospital and seen me. So literally, that's the kind of connection. I have always travelled around, so it's not like I know them beyond a point, because I came into Maharashtra only once in two years during summer holidays or something like that.'
On the work front, Sonali Bendre was last seen in the second season of her ZEE5 show The Broken News. She will next star in a series, reportedly based on the infamous Ranga and Billa, along with Ali Fazal.

SC junks plea seeking protection of Karnataka theatres against alleged threats over screening of 'Thug Life'

ANI 09 Jun 2025, 14:43 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday refused to urgently hear a plea seeking protection of cinema halls or theatres in Karnataka against alleged threats over the screening of the Tamil movie 'Thug Life' starring Kamal Haasan. A bench of Justices PK Mishra and Manmohan rejected the plea and told the petitioner to approach the High Court. The plea had been filed by the Theatre Association of Karnataka. The counsel appearing for the petitioner stated that a law-and-order situation is arising in the State, as cinema halls are receiving threats from certain fringe elements. Further, the counsel stated that threats are being issued that the theatres will be set on fire. Hence, theatres in the State sought protection from the top court. However, the bench declined to entertain the plea and rejected it. Kamal Haasan leads the film as Rangaraaya Sakthivel Naicker, alongside Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf, among others. Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life was recently released on June 5. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam, marking a highly anticipated reunion between the legendary director and Haasan after 38 years. Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Kapil Sharma and Navjot Singh Sidhu's bond goes back a long way. And now, after so many years, they have reunited for the third season of Netflix's 'The Great Indian Kapil Show'. Sidhu will join Archana Puran Singh in a "two-judge comedy court". For the uninitiated, in 2019, when Kapil's comedy show used to air on TV, Sidhu was a permanent guest. However, he was replaced by Archana Puran Singh following his exit over his controversial political remarks. Last year, he made a special appearance on the second season of 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' with his wife. Now, with the new season, the audience will see him returning to his throne, right next to "laughter queen" Archana Puran Singh. The announcement left fans excited. "Thoko taali," a netizne wrote on Instagram. "Chaa gaya guru," another one wrote. Kapil is extremely happy to have "Sidhu paaji" back on the show. In a press note, he expressed, "Humne promise kiya tha ki Har funnyvaar badhega Humaara parivaar and I'm so excited to have Sidhu paaji part of the family along with Archana ji to enjoy all the chutkules, the shayaris and masti. The mahaul is set, so stay tuned because this season jokes aur laughter dono ho gayein hain triple!!!" Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed his excitement over his return in his shayari style. "Coming to The Great Indian Kapil Show feels like I'm coming home again. It is a home run for me. We heard the voice of the people, so many fans and well-wishers who loved our interactions and wanted to see more. I'm delighted that Netflix has managed to bring this bouquet of beautiful people together and we will bloom this season for audiences worldwide. A smile doesn't cost you a cent , but it is worth millions of dollars and The Great Indian Kapil show is an instrument of god's goodwill to bring happiness to mankind - honoured to be part of it again." After sharing his thoughts. Guru, humne milkar yeh aashiyana sajaya hai, Guzra zamana phir se lautke aaya hai !Main yu hi nahi pohuncha hoon yahaan par dobara, Mujhe kheench kar janta ka pyaar laaya hai," he said. A new promo was unveiled on Monday. In the promo, Kapil takes Archana , with a cloth tied on her eyes, and he says Netflix is giving her a big surprise. She is ecstatic, thinking they are giving her a car or equity in Netflix. But when she sees Sidhu, she gets shocked. The third season of 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' will start streaming from June 21 on Netflix. (ANI)

When Asked If Raj Thackeray Had A Crush On Her, Sonali Bendre Said, "Honestly, When I Spoke..."

New Delhi: Sonali Bendre has finally cleared the air about the rumours linking her to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. An old video of the two recently resurfaced on social media, sparking fresh gossip about an alleged past romance. The chatter intensified with claims that Raj once had a crush on Sonali. In a recent chat with ANI, Sonali Bendre addressed the rumour head-on. Reacting to the claim that Raj had a crush on her, she said, "Did he? I doubt it, but ya." The actress also clarified what was happening in the now-viral video that sparked a fresh wave of gossip. 'Honestly, when I spoke and I called in the video, I was talking to my sister, who was right there. Not even behind him, but I was telling my sister to come. That's the thing about this. It's just not in a very good taste when people talk about it,' she explained. Sonali Bendre also pointed out that there is no need to drag families into this kind of talk. She explained that while their (Sonali and Raj's) families have shared a long-standing connection, there is nothing more to it. 'First of all, there are families and people involved. Secondly, something that till date I've never even bothered telling this, but other than the fact my brother-in-law, who is a cricketer, hence he used to play cricket with Raj's cousin. Moreover, my sister's mother-in-law was the head of department in literature at the college I am from. She knows Raj because of his father, they all know each other somehow,' the actress said. Sonali also shared a personal and sweet detail about their families' connection going way back: 'For me, the connection was that Sharmila, Raj's wife, her mother, and my Maasi were best friends. I have always travelled around, so it's not like I know them beyond a point, because I came into Maharashtra only once in two years during summer holidays or something like that.' On the work front, Sonali Bendre was last seen in a cameo appearance in Remo D'Souza's Be Happy. The film featured Abhishek Bachchan, Inayat Verma, and Nora Fatehi in key roles.
