Former MSU QB Rocky Lombardi to start for UFL's Michigan Panthers this weekend
A former Michigan State quarterback is set to make a start in the UFL this week.
Former Spartans quarterback Rocky Lombardi will reportedly start for the Michigan Panthers in their regular season-finale on Saturday afternoon from Ford Field in Detroit. James Larsen reported the notable news related to Lombardi on Thursday.
Lombardi has primarily served as the Panther's third string quarterback this season, according to Larsen. Lombardi has not recorded any stats in any of the Panthers' games so far this year.
Lombardi played three seasons at Michigan State from 2018 to 2020, where he appeared in 22 games at quarterback. He notably led Michigan State to upset wins over Purdue in 2018, and Michigan and Northwestern in 2020. His performance against the Wolverines in 2020 is still considered an all-timer for Michigan State.
Following the 2020 season, Lombardi transferred to Northern Illinois where he started most of the three seasons he played with he Huskies, which included winning the MAC championship in 2021.
Kickoff between the Panthers and Houston Roughnecks is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN.
