Arsenal learn staggering Benjamin Sesko asking price in striker search twist
Arsenal's search for a new striker has seen them renew interest in Benjamin Sesko - but RB Leipzig will not sell the Slovenia international on the cheap this summer
Arsenal have been told it will cost them a mammoth £92.5million to sign Benjamin Sesko this summer with RB Leipzig ready to play hardball over their sought-after striker.
The Gunners are in the market for a new No.9 in the upcoming transfer window and have set their sights on Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres. Both have been linked with numerous top European clubs and are expected to be on the move ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Sesko, 21, is a long-term Arsenal target; the Londoners were courting the Slovenia international last summer only for him to sign a new contract with Leipzig.
After keeping their powder dry in January, Arsenal are now ready to spend big on a new frontman - but a deal for Sesko would not come cheap, with Leipzig demanding more than £90m for their star striker.
According to The Telegraph, Leipzig are in a strong bargaining position given Sesko is on a contract which runs until 2029. They value him at €110m (£92.5m) and are prepared to stand their ground amid interest from the Premier League.
Sesko plundered 21 goals for the Bundesliga outfit this term across a disappointing campaign which ended in a seventh-place finish. Another of their exciting young stars, Xavi Simons, has also been linked with Premier League clubs.
While Sesko is a player Arsenal admire, the north London outfit have other options: namely Gyokeres, who it is thought will be available for between £60m and £70m this summer.
The Swede, 26, has a fan in the form of Arsenal's new sporting director, Andrea Berta, and has also enjoyed a stellar season, scoring 54 goals in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon.
Arsenal are also in the market for reinforcements in midfield and a left winger, while they have been heavily linked with the Espanyol goalkeeper, Joan Garcia.
Leroy Sane has emerged as a new target to bolster Mikel Arteta 's options in attack and is a player the Spaniard knows from his time at Manchester City. Sane, 29, is out of contract at the end of next month.
Martin Zubimendi is poised to become the club's first summer transfer; the playmaker will undergo a medical imminently before leaving Real Sociedad for £51m.

Premier League Darts to be staged in FIFTH country as Barry Hearn reveals venue
Having already been staged in the UK, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands, Premier League Darts will head to a fifth country for the 2026 edition of the tournament Premier League Darts will head to Belgium next year after Barry Hearn confirmed a fifth host country. PDC president Hearn has revealed that Antwerp is being added to the fixture list for 2026. This year's tournament saw the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany play host to stars like Luke Littler and Luke Humphries. But Belgium has been growing in darting stature, with Belgian Open now on the European Tour and the Flanders Trophy being added to the calendar in 2024. Players have enjoyed themselves and praised the Belgian crowd's behaviour. Sell-out venues have seen the demand for a spot on the Premier League fixture list grow. Now their place confirmed. The news was announced as Humphries beat defending champion Littler 11-8 in Thursday's final at the O2 Arena. Former Winmau World Masters champion Erik Clarys, who's now a commentator for Belgian broadcaster VTM, said: "I honestly didn't see this coming. But it shows just how popular darts has become in our country. I'm sure it's going to be a spectacular night." Humphries will be the player defending the title, having come from 3-0 down to beat 18-year-old Littler. Cool Hand became only the fourth player to complete darts' Triple Crown. Previously, only Gary Anderson, Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen had won the World Championship, World Matchplay and the Premier League. "That one means the world to me. That's what I was missing. I have done it now," Humphries beamed. "If I don't win another title, I'm happy because I've done the three hardest ones to do. I've joined an exclusive group of me, Gary Anderson, Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen. "To Phil Taylor, thank you so much. He has given me so much support. He has given me a lot of advice and an extra boost tonight. If he's watching, then thank you. I'm really happy with that win. Which other country should Premier League Darts be held? Give us your pick in the comments section. "I can retire now - I'm done! I want to search for more. This makes me want to be a better player. I've won eight major titles. Now it's important to finish the end of the season well. "It wasn't our best game. We struggled. I love Luke to bits. He's one of my best mates on tour. He wasn't at his best. It was hard. We struggled to cope with the conditions." Littler will be keen to bounce back in 2026, admitting to Sky Sports: "I had a little bit of a thing after the game - nobody likes losing - but I'm fine. I am glad to say the Premier League is over - it's been a tough 17 weeks. Happy it's over, and I came runner-up, but I will be back next year."

Bruno Fernandes' transfer demand to Jim Ratcliffe as he considers Man Utd exit
Bruno Fernandes is contracted to Manchester United for another two years but with his calls to bolster the squad in the transfer market proving difficult, the captain's future is uncertain Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is reportedly considering leaving the club after previously calling for the hierarchy to buck up their ideas in the transfer market. The Portuguese star put pen to paper on a new deal with the Red Devils in August of last year. However, the extension only materialised after Fernandes made it clear to United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe that he demanded the club recruit top-class players in order to compete with the very best. Yet United's current pull in the market is now under threat, meaning the midfielder is believed to be weighing up the decision to move on, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal said to be circling him. United's loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and their subsequent inability to offer European football next season means luring some of the game's biggest stars to Old Trafford may prove difficult. Mounting financial concerns will also provide a hurdle for Ruben Amorim this summer. Speaking to the club's website upon signing his contract extension, Fernandes said: "The club knew that I want to compete with the best teams. They knew that we needed to improve the team. And I think that we're doing that. "I said to the, 'I don't need you to promise me that we're going to win the league, because no one can promise that. But at least that we will have a team to compete and be competitive throughout the season, to try to achieve silverware and to compete at the highest levels.'" Under former manager Erik ten Hag, United did hold their end of the deal last summer. Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte and Noussair Mazraoui were brought in for a combined fee believed to be in the region of £200million. However, Amorim has long been aware funds will likely be tight this summer. In a move that could signal some ambition to Fernandes, it's understood that United are looking to wrap up a £62.5m deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. Regardless, Fernandes' agent, Miguel Pinho, is already believed to have held discussions with Al-Hilal about a stunning £100m transfer. United have also refused to rule out his possible sale after insisting that every member of their underperforming squad is up for sale. Al-Hilal are eager to conclude a deal quickly so Fernandes, 30, can play for them in the Club World Cup in the United States next month. After United's Europa League final defeat, Fernandes cast doubt on his future by suggesting the club could "cash in" on him. United signed Fernandes from Sporting CP in January 2020 for a fee rising to £67.7million. He was United's top scorer in 2024/25 with 19 goals and he retained the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award - an accolade he has won in four out of his six seasons at the club. United's head coach also underlined the player's significance this week. "[Fernandes] is really important for us and what we want to build for the team. We talk about this many times," Amorim said. "You can see by his performances. You can see by his leadership. You can see the passion he has for the game. In difficult moments, Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should do because he is the captain." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Saints sign Quarshie - so what should fans expect from 'promising' talent?
Southampton have signed defender Joshua Quarshie from Hoffenheim for a fee understood to be £ 20-year-old has signed a four-year deal and becomes the Saints' first signing of the summer under new manager Will made his Bundesliga debut at 18 and gained the majority of his experience with Hoffenheim's second team, as well as on loan with Fortuna Dusseldorf and Greuther Furth, making 28 appearances in the German second group technical director Johannes said the Germany Under-20 international is a "talented young player" and "natural fit" for Still's style, while Quarshie himself said the Saints felt like the "right club" for football expert Constantin Eckner told BBC Radio Solent: "Quarshie was one of the more promising talents in the Bundesliga 2. It was expected that he would move on somewhere and the link to Southampton probably comes through the new sporting directer Johannes Spors, who is German, and may have an eye on youth national team players."His height and athletic promises are there. He's still very young so he's still a work in progress, but he's technically pretty proficient."He's not just the type of player to play one steller pass after another, but he's pretty precise when it comes to build-up passes too."Now Southampton are playing in the Championship again, they will have a lot of matches where they will have a lot of possession, so they have to deal with how to set up their build-up plays, so he could also play a part there."Fans should expect someone who's still in development and who will still have to become a professional player at that level."With the schedule of the Championship you play so many games over a season. It's important to have a number of centre-backs with different skillsets. With Quarshie you have someone who is tall, athletic, two-footed and has a lot of upsides."Listen to the full discussion on BBC Sounds here
