Orlando Pirates return to Cape Town for unfinished business!
Orlando Pirates haven't forgotten about Cape Town City youngster Jaedin Rhodes.
The Soweto giants tried to sign the 22-year-old in January and will reportedly try again this offseason following the Mother City side's dreadful season. It's been a campaign to forget for Rhodes, with one goal in twenty-four league outings, but it would be senseless to assume that the talent isn't there.
The Cape Town-born starlet is already sixteen caps off a hundred top-flight appearances, boasting a rare blend of youth and experience.
'One of those reinforcements could be a long-time target, Jaedin Rhodes. Although the 22-year-old has endured an underwhelming season with Cape Town City, he remains a high priority on the Buccaneers' list,' a source said.
'The club [Orlando Pirates] has been met with resistance by City in previous attempts to lure Rhodes to Gauteng, but according to sources, will try once more in the upcoming window. Complicating matters will be the Citizens' peculiar situation.'
Buccaneers' new man Tshepho Mashiloane has expressed his desires at his new club, however remained truthful about his recent heartbreak with former club Baroka FC.
'I would have loved to go to Orlando Pirates knowing that I have promoted my team [Baroka FC]. But I believe the guys will do well next season and promote the team,' a source said.
'The chairman [Khurishi Mphahlele] has supported me and my move to Pirates and is happy. I will have to up my game when I get there [to Pirates] so I can stay competitive. I would love to get a chance to play in the cup competitions like the Carling Knockout Cup, MTN8, and Nedbank Cup. But I understand I need to work hard to earn it. I want to achieve a lot of things at Pirates.'

Some good news, please
As a South African, it's easy to feel worn down by bad news. Corruption, unemployment, crime, service delivery failures – the list goes on. However, this is what makes the franchising sector, of all things, such a glimmer of hope. By connecting entrepreneurs with established brands and proven systems, South Africa's hundreds of franchise outlets create employment for tens of thousands of people and contribute massively to our economic output. It's an engine for small business growth, which is ultimately what will lift our country out of the bad news and into a brighter future. We kick off this issue of Franchising with the Franchise Association of South Africa, looking at the facts and figures of the sector's economic contribution, along with the organisation's plans and partnerships to grow this throughout the coming year. With supply chains once again in the spotlight due to the impact of the United States' tariff war, we consider the question of who controls the supply chain in a franchise arrangement and how this can impact business operations. We examine social franchising, which takes the principles of franchising and applies them to social upliftment causes and learn some lessons from the rebranding of seafood restaurant John Dory's. To wrap up, we look at World Franchise Day and some of the top business performers across the country. Because we all deserve a little good news, don't we? Orlando Pirates man chosen to solve big Kaizer Chiefs problem?
Kaizer Chiefs are looking to step up their transfer activity as the new transfer window is fasting approaching. Chiefs finished outside the top eight for a second consecutive season and know improvements are imperative for the next. Furthermore, Chiefs will be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup next season. This a feat that they earned after beating arch rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final. That will see their schedule become increasingly difficult, factoring more games and travel throughout the continent. Then having to balance that with potentially, Betway Premiership, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup games. With that in mind, Chiefs management will understand they will need strength and depth as well as experience. This then looks to have led them to the surprise move to sign Paseka Mako to boost their left-back ranks. The 31-year-old would be arriving from arch nemesis Pirates with a wealth of know-how. This after playing continental football and winning six trophies while with the Buccaneers. He would also come in as a potential starter, solving the left-back issue at Amakhosi. Now according to SABC Sport , Chiefs are in advanced talks to sign Mako after recently leaving Pirates. 'SABC Sport can exclusively reveal that former Orlando Pirates defender Paseka Mako could be heading to Naturena as talks with Kaizer Chiefs have progressed to an advanced stage. According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, the 31-year-old has entered into talks with their Soweto rivals over a potential move to The Glamour Boys ahead of the upcoming season. Mako now presents a viable option and will arrive as a free agent, should the finer details be ironed out and all parties involved are satisfied.' Wrote the publication. Latest:Saleng stays at Orlando Pirates or moving to Kaizer Chiefs?
Orlando Pirates have already made some big player decisions this close window, with Monnapule Saleng potentially next on the list. Saleng has been isolated from the Pirates first team for the whole of 2025, with rumours he'll join Kaizer Chiefs. He last played for Pirates in December 2024, in a CAF Champions League game against Al Ahly. Even in that game, Saleng's involvement from he start was a bit of a surprise, as he had been MIA for a while prior. It then quickly became apparent that there was something wrong between club and player. It was uncovered that Saleng was not happy with his contract situation at Pirates. The speedy winger then resurfaced with Bafana Bafana and was part of their first leg CHAN win over Egypt. He then made headlines for the wrong reasons, again, when he failed to join their camp ahead of the way leg. Even though he was pictured back at training with Pirates towards the end of the season, Saleng's still in limbo. Despite rumours that he has joined arch rivals Chiefs on a pre-contract, there's still no confirmation on that. And now according to Soccer-Laduma , there's still a glimmer of hope that he remains a Buccaneers instead! 'The club is busy with preparations for next season, and you can expect more players to be allowed to move on to make space for new signings. He (Saleng) is one of the players the club is currently busy with regarding his future. But from what I understand, there is a slight chance for him to stay – if the parties manage to sort out their differences. If not, then anything could happen. At the end of the day, he needs to get back on the field and play. The club loves the boy, and he loves the club – it's just that there were issues that needed to be sorted out, which affected his progress this season,' said the source. Pirates fans would you be happy with Saleng staying? Chiefs fans, are you still hopefully he joins? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab.
