Community Resource Rally Delivers Essential Aid to Local Families Facing Summer Insecurity
ROGERS, Ark., June 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- With summer in full swing and school cafeterias closed for the season, many families in Northwest Arkansas are looking for ways to keep meals on the table. Today, StarKist®, Feed the Children, and Feed 479 joined forces at Cross Church in Rogers, AR, to host a Summer Food and Resource Rally, delivering food, essential household items, and a sense of hope to 400 families across the region. They were joined by Walmart associates, as well as Advantage Solutions and Flywheel, whose partnership and participation helped make the event a true community-wide effort.
The initiative reflects a powerful collaboration between a national food brand, a global nonprofit, and a dedicated local pantry, all working toward one goal: supporting families experiencing food insecurity during a season of heightened need.
"StarKist is a socially responsible company that empowers people to live a healthy lifestyle by providing convenient, nutritious protein products," said Edward Min, President and CEO of StarKist. "We're proud to work with Feed the Children and Feed 479 to offer meaningful support to families in Northwest Arkansas. Events like this rally are a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together for our communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to get our StarKist products into the hands of those who need them most."
During the event, volunteers, including StarKist employees, local officials, and community advocates, distributed 400 family kits. Each kit included StarKist protein products, a 25-pound box of shelf-stable food, a 15-pound box of hygiene essentials, and additional resources to help ease the burden for families this summer.
"We here at Feed 479 are so excited to partner with Feed the Children and StarKist for this great Summer Family Event. Each year at our Feed 479 'Choice' Pantry, we see an increase in need during the summer months as families have more demand for meals due to their children being home from school," said Dennis Smiley, Director of Feed 479. "Events such as this give a little extra blessing for these families during these summer months. We are grateful to be able to be part of such a wonderful event."
For Feed the Children, the Summer Food and Resource Rally provides an opportunity to help meet the community's immediate needs while making a meaningful difference for families. Feed the Children believes it takes everyone – the nonprofit sector, corporations, community organizations, government officials, and food suppliers – to come together to end childhood hunger.
"We've seen the significant impact Resource Rallies have in supporting communities experiencing food insecurity, and we're grateful to be working with StarKist and Feed 479 to make a difference in the lives of children and families," said Emily Callahan, President and CEO of Feed the Children. "Working together we're able to provide food and quality of life essentials that children and families need to survive, grow, and thrive. Through the power of partnership, we can make a greater impact as we seek to create a world where no child goes to bed hungry."
This Resource Rally follows a similar event held earlier this month in Reston, VA, home to StarKist's corporate headquarters. Looking ahead, StarKist and Feed the Children will continue their collaboration with additional events planned for the upcoming holiday season.
For more than 16 years, StarKist has remained deeply committed to the fight against hunger, donating over 1.2 million pounds of nutritious, protein-packed tuna and chicken products to communities in need. These contributions amount to nearly $4.9 million in product donations, along with an additional $985,000 in financial support to help address food insecurity across the United States.
Through its enduring partnership with Feed the Children, StarKist has played an instrumental role in more than 20 Resource Rally events nationwide, including vital disaster relief and emergency response initiatives. This ongoing collaboration builds on a legacy that dates back to 1917, when the company first stepped up to help feed the nation during World War I. Today, that same spirit of service continues, fueled by purpose and strengthened through partnership.

Why the NFL just put AI on its roster

Just in time for the season's kick off, the National Football League (NFL) is tapping into artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze game and performance insights in real time. On Aug. 20, the NFL and Microsoft announced they are expanding their partnership to bring AI to the field. Integrating technologies like Azure AI and Microsoft Copilot, coaches and players across the 32 NFL teams may now have more efficient sideline evaluations and enhanced scouting insights. Beyond the playing field, the 30 franchise stadiums will also have AI available to streamline its operations during the multiyear partnership. 'The NFL and Microsoft partnership is entering a new era, and we're proud the league is once again putting its trust in Microsoft to bring AI to the NFL,' Corporate Vice President, Global Marketing, Microsoft, Bryson Gordon said in a blog post announcement. 'Whether you're preparing for the championship or running a global enterprise, the principles are the same: insights matter, preparation is essential, and the ability to act quickly is critical.' Fast Company reached out to Microsoft and the NFL for comment but did not hear back at the time of publishing. AI-powered sideline decisions The current NFL's Sideline Viewing System —league-provided, Microsoft configured tablets available to all clubs—will be upgraded to include SurfaceCopilot+ PCs, providing data and analysis tools on game day. 'Making sound decisions and putting players in the best spots on the field is a coach's ultimate responsibility,' head coach of the Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay said in a blog post. 'Microsoft Copilot enhances our efficiency and accuracy by breaking down complex data into digestible insights.' For coaches and players, the dashboard will feature the ability to sort through plays filtering through scoring plays and penalties, and analyze formations and coverage. The feature, which is built with GitHub Copilot, will allow teams to make faster strategic decisions based on data. Additionally, club analysts may quickly spot insights like personnel groupings and more from the coaching booth using the upgraded dashboard. Beyond the field The NFL's integration with Copilot and Azure, is not the league's first AI related partnership in recent years. Notably, Sony's Hawk-Ey e, which uses cameras and artificial intelligence to make calls, is set to replace the line measuring system in favor of the faster and quicker autonomous option. Still, Microsoft's partnership is set to expand beyod sidelines, integrating unto day-to-day activities at clubs and stadiums. Research is still underway for ways to incorporate Copilot as a tool for operation managers to help identify incidents like technical issues or weather conflicts to generate its own AI-powered dashboard for game day operations. While still in the works, the partnership also aims to provide data-driven insights on draft performance, as well as insights on non-football-related operations like business, finance, human resources, and events functions.

Starship launches could delay Florida flights up to 2 hours, FAA says

As regulators weigh SpaceX's plans to launch its massive Starship rocket from Kennedy Space Center, federal documents warn those flights could ripple through Florida airspace, forcing ground stops at multiple airports, reroutes, and delays of up to two hours. Even after launch, reentry of Starship's two stages could require ground stops at some of the busiest airports in the country, according to a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) released by the Federal Aviation Administration this month. Florida airports affected by the launches may include Orlando International, Miami International, Tampa International, and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International. Average delays could be as long as 40 minutes to 2 hours for launches and Super Heavy booster landings, and 40 minutes to one hour for Starship reentries. Diversions and cancellations are possible, the FAA said in a companion slide deck. To manage risk, the FAA would establish Aircraft Hazard Areas (AHAs) over potentially impacted zones, as it does for commercial space launches today. Depending on the Starship flight trajectory, those zones could overlay routes above the Atlantic, parts of the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, and airspace in several Central American countries. 'AHAs may necessitate the closure of dozens of coastal and deep-water oceanic airways over the Atlantic Ocean, requiring substantial aircraft rerouting to avoid the AHAs,' the draft EIS says regarding Starship launches. Tampa International Airport spokesperson Emily Nipps told TechCrunch the airport has not been involved in any briefings or procedural planning with the FAA or SpaceX, so far. However, a day after TechCrunch sent its inquiries to the relevant airports and the FAA, Nipps said the airport was informed it would be having those discussions 'soon.' San Francisco | REGISTER NOW 'Whether that changes anything for us operationally, I don't yet know,' she said. A spokesperson for Miami International said they have not received any briefings on possible ground stops. SpaceX has been launching its flagship Falcon rockets from the Florida coast for years, and that cadence has sharply increased since 2020. Despite launching over 80 Falcon rockets from the Eastern Range last year, these launches don't typically interrupt commercial airlines. But the Falcon rockets are substantially different from Starship: Falcon's smaller size means a smaller possible footprint for debris in the case of an anomaly, and the Falcon launches are at this point predictable and mature. Starship is in a much earlier stage of development, with vehicles still occasionally blowing up during both ground tests and orbital flights. Indeed, the draft EIS notes that the size of airspace closures may vary with each Starship mission, and that it could shrink as the vehicle becomes more reliable. An FAA spokesperson said the agency has already engaged with aviation organizations, and worked with SpaceX to develop notional launch and reentry trajectories. Prior to launch, the agency will also distribute a final Airspace Management Plan. The FAA relies on a number of factors, including the number of affected passengers, launch window duration, and major holidays when determining when a space launch can proceed, the spokesperson added. Starship is SpaceX's next-generation launch system designed for travel to the Moon and Mars. The 400-foot-tall rocket is composed of two stages: an upper stage, also called Starship, and a Super Heavy booster. Both stages are designed to be fully reusable and rapidly refurbished for high-cadence satellite delivery and missions to deep space. Today, SpaceX conducts all Starship launch activities from Starbase in south Texas. But the company is looking to expand operations to NASA's Kennedy Space Center, prompting the environmental review. That review is conducted by the FAA in cooperation with NASA, the Air Force, the Fish and Wildlife Service, and other federal agencies. The draft EIS analyzes up to 44 Starship launches per year, which could include up to 44 Super Heavy booster landings and 44 Starship landings. Super Heavy could land back at LC-39A, the launch pad at KSC, on a droneship, or be expended in the Atlantic. Starship landings could likewise occur at the pad, on a ship, or as water splashdowns with recovery in the Atlantic, Pacific, or Indian Oceans. The FAA said in the draft EIS that while temporary airspace closures may impact commercial airlines and other stakeholders, 'mitigation strategies such as pre-coordinated reroutes, dynamic scheduling, and time-based traffic flow management could reduce operational burdens.' Today, FAA uses a prototype tool called Space Data Integrator, which ingests real-time flight data from SpaceX and other operators to shrink the amount of time airspace is closed. The regulator says it wants to develop more tools to beef out its situational awareness capability, and each time Starship launches it will get more data on its operations. The U.S. Space Force is running a parallel environmental review at neighboring Cape Canaveral Space Force Base that analyzes up to 76 annual Starship launches. While the draft EIS for that site states Starship launches would result in airspace closures, it says details of the closures are not yet known because the site is expected to take months to prepare.
