Michael Crawford honoured by Donald Trump
The US president named Crawford, 85, as a Kennedy Centre honouree on Thursday.
The honourees will now be asked if they will accept the prize, which Mr Trump announced he will present to the winners in person.
Announcing the British actor's nomination at the Kennedy Centre on Wednesday, Mr Trump said: 'He's one of the greatest talents I think I have ever actually seen. Among the greatest actors in the world are the London Broadway actors... all they want to do is be on the live stage.
'They are the most talented people, and this man might be the most [talented] of all, Michael Crawford is being honoured.'
Mr Trump said he was 'there' for Crawford's 1967 Broadway debut in Peter Shaffer's Black Comedy, the president lauded him as 'very special' with 'unbelievable talents'.

In a lengthy Instagram statement, Katie pleaded 'I'm trying to be the best I can' while noting 'she hasn't always been the best mother'. She wrote: 'Saints and sinners. As we know, in this life we are thought of as Saints and Sinners. 'I've had many reasons - I was sexually abused when younger; I've had relationships that have been coercive; and my mental health issues - but I don't want to make excuses. 'I've recognised my issues and worked to put them behind me. Sometimes I tried and failed, sometimes I succeeded. 'I've pulled myself out of suicidal spiral because I love my children and want to be there for them. 'I don't pretend to be perfect by any means - but I'm trying to be the best I can.' She added: 'Then there are the "Saints". Some are genuine and some have helped me. 'But some Saints are not who they would have you believe they are. They have a carefully managed image which must be exhausting to maintain. 'Some Saints are fake. They play the victim and to succeed in life they need a villain... or at least a Sinner. Peter shared his side of the story on Thursday, explaining: 'For sixteen years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today. 'The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. 'In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children.' He continued: 'In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases found my ex-wife had made false claims. She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise to me and my management. The same falsehoods are being repeated today. 'Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations I have yet to address. Those will now be dealt with in the coming months.' A spokesperson for Katie told Daily Mail: 'Kate is in a much better and clear headspace and is at peace with the situation. This was in the past and she doesn't feel the need to bring up tit for tat comments, but more importantly she's dealing with this the right way and it's now in her lawyers hands. Kate will no longer be gaslighted and bullied as she once was.' It comes after Katie called on Peter to sit down with her and 'squash their beef' for the sake of their family. Speaking on the latest on the latest episode of her Katie Price Show podcast, Katie - who is currently recovering from more facial surgery - shared: 'There's no reason why both parents just can't be there to support her.' 'All what I want to do, is just whatever my daughter does, and it's the same with Junior, I don't care if I'm in the background, but I want to watch her do her photo shoots, I wanna watch her do her signings, because that's what I did. 'And my mom and you and Nan used to come along and support, and I'm proud of her. And I just wanna be there with her because I now I feel that I've missed out on so much.' Katie went on: 'It's so not fair to bring Princess piggy in the middle. So I think it's about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it. After he was name-dropped by Taylor Swift minutes into her highly anticipated appearance on New Heights, Jared Goff has broken his silence on the 'crazy' reaction he received to the shoutout. Swift used Goff in her analogy when describing her level of football knowledge when entering her first date with now-boyfriend Travis Kelce over two years ago. Kelce, who hosts New Heights with older brother Jason, were coming off of being competitors during the most recent Super Bowl when Swift began her romance with the tight end. Swift inquired on the date about Kelce's personal life and asked what it was like to compete in a Super Bowl against your brother five feet away from each other. She described it as Jared Goff and Josh Allen on the field at the same time. Of course, offenses do not play each other, with Swift realizing now how 'insane' her question was.
