Toronto Film Festival Adds Angelina Jolie's "Couture", "Good Fortune", "Christy", More

Yara Sameh
It's a big news week for the 50th Toronto International Film Festival starting with announcement of their full Galas and Special Presentations section including world premieres of Aziz Ansari's Lionsgate Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen comedy "Good Fortune," Maude Apatow's feature directorial debut "Poetic License," Isabel Coixet's "Three Goodbyes," James McAvoy's feature directorial debut "California Schemin'," Succession star Brian Cox's feature directorial debut "Glenrothan," Romain Gavras' "Sacrifice," David Michôd's "Christy," Yeon Sang-ho's "The Ugly," James Vanderbilt's "Nuremberg," and Alice Winocour's "Couture," as well as movies from Mamoru Hosoda, Zacharias Kunuk, Baz Luhrmann, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Jafar Panahi, Benny Safdie, and Gus Van Sant.
Before "Waiting for Godot" begins its Broadway run on September 13, both Bill and Ted will be in TIFF; Keanu Reeves starring in "Good Fortune" and Alex Winter with the world premiere of his Adulthood.
"Good Fortune," which first dropped a trailer at CinemaCon 2024, follows an angel named Gabriel, played by Reeves, who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).
"Poetic License" stars Method Man, Nico Parker, Andrew Barth Feldman, Cooper Hoffman, Maisy Stella and Leslie Mann.
The movie follows Liz, a former therapist and soon-to-be empty nester, as she becomes the unexpected point of tension between two inseparable best friends and college seniors, Sam and Ari. Liz is forced to reexamine her life as the boys' friendship unravels in a fierce competition for her affection.
Sony Pictures Classics' "Nuremberg" chronicles the true story of the eponymous post-WWII trials held by the Allies against the defeated Nazi regime.
The pic centers on American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek), who is tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes. He finds himself in a complex battle of wits with Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe), Hitler's right-hand man.
Michôd's "Christy" stars Sydney Sweeney as 1990s female boxer Christy Martin. Merritt Weaver, Ben Foster, and Katy O'Brian also star.
Winocour's "Couture" stars Angelina Jolie as an American filmmaker who arrives in Paris for Fashion Week on a life-and-death journey, facing challenges and self-discovery.
Jolie was at TIFF last year with the world premiere of "Without Blood," which she directed. The Oscar winner was also lauded at TIFF's awards gala.
McAvoy's "California Schemin" tells the story of two Scottish lads from Dundee who conned the music industry by pretending to be an established Californian rap duo, bagging a record deal and appearing on MTV until their scam unraveled.
"Glenrothan" also stars its director Cox, as well as Alan Cumming, Alexandra Shipp, and Shirley Henderson in a tale about two brothers, who following a violent exchange with their father on the day of their mother's funeral, sees the younger of the two leaving their Highland home for America. After forty years they reunite in the land of their birth.
Rachel Lee Goldenberg's world premiere of 20th Century Studios' "Swiped" is inspired by the real-life story of the visionary founder of online dating platform Bumble.
It introduces recent college grad Whitney Wolfe (Lily James) as she uses extraordinary grit and ingenuity to break into the male-dominated tech industry, launching an innovative, globally lauded dating app – two, actually, and paving the way to becoming the youngest female self-made billionaire.
The movie was written by Bill Parker, Rachel Lee Goldenberg, and Kim Caramele.
It also stars Jackson White, Myha'la, Ben Schnetzer, Pierson Fodé, Clea DuVall, Pedro Correa, Ian Colleti, Coral Peña, and Dan Stevens. The movie is produced by Jennifer Gibgot, Andrew Panay and James. It premieres on Hulu on September 19.
"Train to Busan" filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho's new movie, the mystery thriller, "The Ugly," centers around a man's investigation into his long-lost mother's death.
In a full reveal that other big fall and awards season movies are world premiering elsewhere, TIFF announced that Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein," starring Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, is getting a North American premiere as well as Dwayne Johnson's movie "The Smashing Machine" from Benny Safdie and starring the former WWE wrestler as mixed-martial arts and UFC champion Mark Kerr.
Meanwhile, Edward Berger's Colin Farrell, Tilda Swinton psychological drama thriller, "Ballad of a Small Player," is making its Canadian premiere at TIFF. It follows a high stakes gambler who is laying low in Macau whose past and debts start to catch up with him. He encounters a kindred spirit who might just hold the key to his salvation.
In addition, the closing night movie is "Peak Everything" from Canadian director Anne Émond playing on the last night of the fest on Saturday, September 13.
TIFF, presented by Rogers, takes place September 4–14. The festival invited movies from 30 countries.

"Greenland 2: Migration" Lands 2026 Release Date

Yara Sameh 'Greenland 2: Migration' has landed a January 9, 2026 release date from Lionsgate. In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the earth, the film follows the Garrity family, played by Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin and Roman Griffith Davis, as they're forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home. Lionsgate's 'Mutiny,' which was previously slotted for the January 9 date, now changes to a Summer 2026 release window. 'Greenland 2: Migration' also stars Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg and William Abadie. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, written by Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling, and produced by Butler, Waugh, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Alan Siegel, Sébastien Raybaud, John Zois and Brendon Boyea. The pic is a sequel to the 2020 disaster film 'Greenland,' which starred Butler and Baccarin as John and Allison Garrity — a couple, with diabetic son Nathan, that flee as a comet hurtles towards Earth. It was distributed theatrically by STX Films and its international partners during the height of the COVID pandemic. The film opened at No. 1 at the box office in 26 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Russia, grossing more than $52 million internationally. In the U.S., the film delivered a strong performance on PVOD before a popular run on Max. 'Greenland 2: Migration' is produced by Anton, STX Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures and G-base Entertainment. STX is handling international distribution through its global network of partners. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Mohammad Nizar Headlines 'Sink,' Premiering at TIFF 2025

Yara Sameh Jordanian actor Mohammad Nizar makes a defining move in his career as he takes center stage in Sink, directed by Zain Duraie, which will have its world premiere at the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film marks a bold step in Nizar's artistic journey, solidifying his status as one of the most promising young talents emerging from the Arab region. "Sink" is an intimate and powerful portrait of emotional survival, family trauma, and moral reckoning, stories rarely told with such raw authenticity. Nizar delivers a haunting performance, anchoring the film with both fragility and force, earning early praise for his remarkable range and emotional depth. 'Being part of Sink has been one of the most transformative experiences of my career. Zain Duraie's vision and the emotional weight of this story demanded everything from us, and I couldn't be prouder to share it with the world at TIFF,' said Nizar. The project has been six years in the making, supported by the Red Sea Lodge, CineGouna Platform, Doha Film Institute, and the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), and developed through key international labs such as MAFF. Over the years, "Sink" has become a symbol of resilience and passion in the landscape of Arab independent cinema. Nizar is no stranger to global audiences. He first gained widespread recognition through Netflix's breakout series AlRawabi School for Girls, portraying Omar, a conflicted, charismatic character that resonated deeply with young viewers. He later appeared in acclaimed films such as Gaza Mon Amour, The Red Sea Makes Me Wanna Cry (Cannes Critics' Week), and the Jordanian short Five Boys and a Wheel. 'Mohammad always chooses roles that challenge stereotypes and reveal deeper truths,' said director Zain Duraie. 'His performance in Sink is a revelation — deeply human, painfully honest, and utterly unforgettable.' "Sink" stars Mohammad Nizar, Clara Khoury, Wissam Tobailah, and introduce Tara Rifaie and Antone Qasir in their screen debuts. The film was produced by Tabi360 and supported by the Doha Film Institute, Red Sea Film Festival, AFAC, Film Jordan, and other leading regional organizations. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Stephen King's "Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" Movie in Works

Yara Sameh Stephen King's novel "The Long Walk" is getting the big screen treatment. Lionsgate has acquired the rights to King's 1999 novel "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", setting JT Mollner, the filmmaker behind the well-regarded thriller "Strange Darling", to pen and helm the adaptation. The project marks a new collaboration between King and Mollner, who wrote the script for "The Long Walk", which was directed by Francis Lawrence and opens September 12. Roy Lee, the producer of "Long Walk" and "Strange Darling", will reteam with Mollner for "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon". Also producing will be Christine Romero, Ryan Silbert and Andrew Childs. Nathan Kahane, who is transitioning from his post as Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president to independent producer, will also join the project in a producorial capacity. King's psychological horror novel centers on the harrowing survival story of a nine-year-old girl named Trisha as she struggles to stay alive after getting lost in the woods alone. With only her Walkman radio playing baseball games to keep her company, the girl's love of pitcher "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" begins to manifest in hallucinations that may save her life. 'JT is a filmmaker we believe has a bright future,' said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Erin Westerman. 'Throughout his work, he creates characters, and especially young characters, that are so compelling, heartbreaking, and emotional that they pop off the screen. And of course, that's what Stephen King does on the page as well. The story of survival and perseverance in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is timeless. We've loved this tale for a long time, and JT is the perfect choice to adapt and direct this King fan favorite.' Meredith Wieck will oversee the project for Lionsgate alongside Pavan Kalidindi. Phil Strina negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio. Lee has, over the years, amassed an enviable body of work adapting King's work, including "It" and "It: Chapter Two", as well as "Doctor Sleep", and "Salem's Lot". "Long Walk," which will have a panel in Hall H on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, adapts King's 1979 horror novel and stars a list of next generation Hollywood talent. Mollner previously wrote and directed the indie psychological thriller "Strange Darling", which was released in 2024 and scored a critically acclaimed 96 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. The film received the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films' best thriller award in 2025, as well as the STIGES Film Festival Grand People's Choice Award. In addition, Mollner was honored with the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival best director award for the movie. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
