They'll probably check in every now and then when their name is shouted out by their boss or when the company celebrates them every six months, but beyond that, there's no presence, authority, visibility, or credibility developed.

LinkedIn Carousels is a feature that allows you to showcase your expertise beyond posts in a deep, meaningful, and practical way. It allows you to explore a topic further and be very hands-on with your audience. You can literally upload a PDF that you've created, such as a list of tools and resources, prompts, helpful tips, step-by-step guide, etc. It will then convert into a carousel that people can scroll through.
This boosts your value in the eyes of your audience, especially when you're answering a problem that they have directly, and it positions you as a thought leader.
You can take inspiration for how to design and format your LinkedIn Carousels by browsing through and studying your favourite creators on LinkedIn, especially those who already work within your industry or field.
And you don't need to worry about being a designer because you can literally create carousel templates from Canva's vast library of templates, and tweak according to your style, industry, and brand.
Quick tip: if including multiple pages, try to make it one small idea per page so that it's easily digestible and it entices people to click reading for more. LinkedIn Carousels have been proven to boost engagement by as much as 246%, according to a Buffer experiment, so this will help you bring more eyeballs to your profile.
This is another underrated gem. When you create a LinkedIn profile, you need to view it as your portfolio, or better yet, your storefront. That doesn't mean everything should scream 'buy now.' But what it does mean is that it should look enticing enough for people to want to consider checking out what exactly you do even further.

This data is invaluable, because it reveals the health of your LinkedIn's profile and presence. The higher your score, the better, as it indicates that you're more visible, have a higher likelihood of building strong client and partnership relationships (even as a job-seeker), and have a strong personal brand.
You'll also notice a section which shows that you're in the top X percent of your network (you fill in the X). Look at the four metrics and see where most improvement is needed, and aim to be in the top 10%.

AI And The Vanishing Entry-Level Job: The Changing Future Of Work
AI is destroying the 'bottom rungs of the career ladder,' said Aneesh Raman, LinkedIn's chief economic officer, in a New York Times op-ed. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei issued a similar warning, predicting that AI could severely slash the number of entry-level jobs in just five years. The data supports these dire predictions: A recent report from SignalFire, an early-stage venture capital firm, found that new grad hiring in 2024 dropped 50% compared to pre-pandemic levels. Another report, this one from Oxford Economics, found that for the first time in 45 years, recent college grads have a higher unemployment rate than the national average. What role does AI play in plummeting hiring for new grads? Will organizations suffer a future leadership gap if they don't develop new talent? What's the long-term outlook? And what—if anything—can young people do to AI-proof their careers? Is AI Why Companies Aren't Hiring New Grads? AI adoption is certainly one reason why hiring rates for new graduates are down. A LinkedIn survey, for example, found that more than 60% of executives plan to use AI to shoulder entry-level work. The whole picture, however, is a little more nuanced. Dr. Heather Doshay, head of talent at SignalFire, points to a domino effect of economic pressures, AI adoption making teams more efficient and a surplus of experienced workers following an uptick in layoffs, especially in the tech sector. When companies have the choice between hiring someone with a few years under their belt or a new graduate who will need investment and training, they're often opting for the more senior employee—a trend known as the experience paradox. 'We're in a period of economic recalibration,' Dr. Doshay says. 'In 2021, with the Great Resignation, we saw companies really investing in hiring and growth. Now, because of various factors, startups are 20% smaller than they were in 2020. We can't point to what percentage of that is from AI. We just know AI is a factor as something like 40% of employers expect to reduce their workforce where AI can automate tasks.' Will AI Destroy The White Collar Career Ladder? Doomsday predictions are good for getting people to sit up and pay attention. But when it comes to AI, the reality will probably end up being less disastrous for white-collar workers. Although AI is a revolutionary technology unlike anything we've seen before, history has shown us repeatedly that new technology destroys some jobs, creates others and, in the end, the job market recalibrates. So what does the future hold now that AI is on the scene? Dr. Doshay predicts that AI-powered teams will remain leaner, as fewer people will be needed to produce the same output. Some of that job loss from leaner teams will be made up by a greater proliferation of companies, enabled by AI. 'One thing that's really compelling about AI is that you don't need to be an expert software engineer to build an application,' Dr. Doshay says. 'Between no-code and AI improvements, almost anyone can start a business.' And while AI will eventually eliminate some job categories, it will also create new opportunities and the need for new subspecialties, especially in areas like cybersecurity, data engineering and AI oversight. And what does this all mean for organizations and their leadership pipelines? On the surface, it makes sense that if companies aren't hiring new graduates, they will see a weakened leadership pipeline in the future. However, this assumption may be misguided, Dr. Doshay says. If AI is leading to smaller teams, then organizations won't require as many leaders in the future. Plus, the next generation will be AI natives, and they may help organizations sidestep any leadership gap. 'Will companies actually feel the gap of not having invested in this subsector of a generation?' Doshay asks. 'I'm not sure, to be honest. I feel for these people who are being impacted, but there could be a world where we don't feel the emptiness at all for companies.' Even if the leadership pipeline isn't negatively affected, companies will still need to invest in training new employees, especially junior team members. AI skills are important, but they're not everything. Developing intuition, understanding how the business and industry works and understanding how to navigate within an organization are all skills that only come from getting a few years of experience or through formal training. To stay competitive in an AI-driven economy, organizations should also start thinking about how entry-level work needs to be changed to align with our new AI-powered reality. In a PBS News article, Raman shares examples of some organizations that are already starting to change entry-level work: 'KPMG is now giving new grads higher level tax work that used to go to people that had, I think two or three years' worth of experience because AI is handling a lot of the grunt work,' he says. 'McFarland's, this law firm in the UK, they're training early career lawyers on complex contract interpretation, not just basic document review … All we need to do on the employer side is up level the tasks that we give entry level workers and be more deliberately appreciative of the know how they bring." What Should Young People Do To AI-Proof Their Careers? Even if organizations don't feel the effects of a weakened leadership pipeline, there is still an entire generation of young adults feeling the transitional squeeze as AI use ramps up while companies are working with leaner budgets. That said, there are steps recent graduates and college students can take to aid their career success in an AI-powered world: This last point—developing discernment—will be crucial, Dr. Doshay says. The ability to judge, curate, and refine AI output will be the new ultimate (and human) competitive advantage. As Dr. Doshay says, 'A future job state for a lot of us is going to be quality control and quality assurance on the work of AI agents, so we'll have to understand what is passable and what is good. If you're an experienced professional, say a software engineer, can you look at a few lines of code and understand if it's good or not? Will this break? Should this be implemented into our product? Or if you're a writer, you could ask AI to write for you, but then you need to decide if the output is good, does it prove a point?' AI is changing the game for early-career professionals. The traditional career ladder may be in a transitional state, but new paths are emerging for those who know how to navigate them. Young professionals who build strong networks, learn to work alongside AI, and sharpen their ability to think critically and adapt quickly will still find opportunities. At the same time, organizations need to rethink how they nurture early talent. By redesigning entry-level roles to focus on higher-value work and embracing the unique perspective AI-native employees bring, companies can build stronger, more future-ready teams.

30-year-old worth $700,000 shares 4 spending habits she avoided in her early 20s: 'I don't have any regrets'
Personal finance consultant Michela Allocca made some financial sacrifices in her 20s, and she has no regrets. At age 30, Allocca has a net worth of more than $700,000 according to documents reviewed by CNBC Make It. In her experience, you sometimes need to make temporary sacrifices to stay grounded financially, even when it feels like everyone else is spending, she says. "We act like not having these things in our early 20s means we're never going to have them," says Allocca, the Chicago-based author of "Own Your Money." But often, "they're status signal things," rather than things people "genuinely and sincerely care about," she tells CNBC Make It. Holding off on certain expenses early in her career helped her stay on track financially, Allocca wrote in a recent LinkedIn post that detailed four financial habits she avoided in her own early 20s. Here are those habits, and what she did instead: The social pressure to travel in your 20s can be strong, whether to become more worldly or simply because it seems like everyone else is doing it, says Allocca. Many young people take big trips right after college, often with little thought about whether it's affordable because they believe, "well, money will always come," she notes. Even a budget-conscious trip can cost $1,000 to $2,000, an expense that's particularly hard to justify early in your career when you're earning a low salary, says Allocca. A single trip can cost as much as an entire month's rent: Gen Z spends an average of $1,600 per month on rent, according to data published in January by credit firm Allocca was 22 and earning $60,000 per year in Boston, flights in particular felt expensive relative to her income, so she focused on taking affordable, domestic trips, she says. While she began taking bigger trips by her late 20s — including a recent visit to Japan — she says they were planned and budgeted for well in advance. While she now travels on her own terms, she says it's "both normal and OK" for people in their 20s to hold off until they can afford the expense. "If I am going to go on a vacation, it has to be something that I actually want to go on, not because I'm feeling pressured to go somewhere," she says. Whether it was sharing one bathroom with three other roommates or moving back in with her parents during the Covid-19 pandemic, Allocca chose not to live alone for most of her 20s. "I was able to continue to save, on average, about $1,000 a month because I wasn't dumping all my money into rent. And that actually really helped me get ahead" on investments, she says. Social media can create unrealistic expectations for what early-career earners can afford, says Allocca. In large cities like San Francisco or New York, residents need to earn more than $100,000 annually to keep rent below the commonly recommended 30% of their budget, according to a Zillow report published in May. "I feel bad for Gen Z, because their perception of what's normal at their age is so warped," she says. "There's all this [online] pressure for young people to live in a high-rise or live alone in these major cities, and it's just not reasonable." At age 27, Allocca finally decided to live alone in a nicer apartment with more space and amenities. She needed a home office, and by that point, knew her income could support a roughly $1,000-per-month rent increase without derailing her financial goals, she says. Allocca took a minimalist approach to her wardrobe in her early 20s, often buying the same pieces in different colors and sticking to a few signature shades so everything was easy to mix and match, she says. She shopped mostly at inexpensive stores like Primark and Old Navy, she adds. "When you have a general color scheme, you can match your clothes easier," says Allocca. "It also helps eliminate the paradox of choice." Her approach kept her clothing costs low. "I wasn't prioritizing shopping as part of my budget," Allocca says. "If I did need to buy something, I was going to those really inexpensive stores so I could get the least expensive version possible." Today, she uses the same principles for what she calls a capsule wardrobe of "elevated basics" — versatile pieces that work with most of what she already owns, she says. She's now more willing to spend money on better quality that she knows will last for years, she adds — like a roughly $450 cashmere sweater that's currently the most expensive item in her closet. In her 20s, Allocca avoided spending on things she could easily do herself. When her walk to work was about 30 minutes, she'd make the trip on foot rather than paying for a ride or public transit, she says. "I didn't take any unnecessary Ubers, I never ordered delivery," she wrote on LinkedIn. Many people justify convenience purchases by thinking "my time is so valuable." Allocca didn't see it that way, she says: "The time that I was saving, I wasn't doing anything valuable with it. So what difference does it make if I spend the 10 extra minutes to go walk and pick up my dinner?" She only ordered out from restaurants within walking distance, she notes. "If I'm not willing to go pick it up, then I'm not ordering it out, I'm cooking at home" she says. "To me, it's creating some parameters around, 'Is this reasonable?'" Even today, Allocca rarely allows herself to pay for convenience, and only in "extenuating circumstances," she says — like paying for delivered groceries after coming home from a long trip. By consistently avoiding most convenience costs, from rides to delivery fees, she says she's freed up around $200 per month. When paired with her low rent, that money "made a big difference" in her ability to save in her 20s, she says. And while she sacrificed some comfort in her 20s, "when I look back at all of these things, I don't have any regrets," she says.
