Bogus doc nabbed during surgery
Compiled by GERARD GIMINO, BEH YUEN HUI and R. ARAVINTHAN A FAKE doctor in India who had assisted in caesarean sections on up to 50 women was arrested by police while in the middle of performing a surgery, Makkal Osai reported. The man, identified as Pulok Malakkar, has been running a healthcare centre in India's northeast state of Assam specialising as an obstetrics and gynaecologist. Authorities had apparently been tipped off that he was a bogus doctor and that his certificates were all fake. Police raided the facility and arrested the 'doctor' from an operating room. It was not clear what happened to the patient who was undergoing the procedure. The Assam government has started a special task force to weed out fake medical practitioners. Authorities say these fake doctors target mainly middle-class families in rural areas who can afford private care.
