Kyrgyz President Accorded Official Welcome In Putrajaya
PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) -- The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, who is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, attended an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received Zhaparov upon his arrival at 9 am, with the national anthems of both countries played as a mark of respect.
Zhaparov then inspected a guard of honour mounted by three officers and 103 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Major Nur Ahmad Zaim Zahari.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, other Cabinet members, foreign diplomats and senior government officials.
Zhaparov then signed the guest book before proceeding to a bilateral meeting with Anwar.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the leaders are expected to explore opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, renewable and green energy, the halal industry, agricommodity, tourism, education, and capacity-building through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
Both leaders will also witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on tourism, digital transformation and cybersecurity, higher education, health, trade promotion, economic cooperation, scientific and research collaboration, as well as an Exchange of Notes on youth development and training for diplomats. A Letter of Intent on legal cooperation will also be signed.
The visit marks Zhaparov's maiden official trip to Malaysia since assuming office in January 2021, and reciprocates Anwar's official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in May last year.
In 2024, the Kyrgyz Republic was Malaysia's fourth-largest trading partner among Central Asian countries, with total bilateral trade valued at RM40 million (USD8.74 million).

Malaysia's services trade hits RM497.4b in 2024, deficit shrinks sharply on export surge
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Malaysia's total trade in services rose by 14.6 per cent to RM497.4 billion last year from RM434.0 billion in 2023, contributing 25.8 per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices. In a statement today, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said exports of services grew by 24.6 per cent to RM242.9 billion from RM195.0 billion in the previous year. Similarly, imports of services increased by 6.5 per cent to RM254.5 billion against RM239.0 billion in 2023. 'As services exports grew faster than imports, the deficit narrowed substantially from RM44.0 billion to RM11.7 billion,' it added. DOSM said that Asia continued to be the main destination for Malaysia's services exports, constituting RM164.0 billion or 67.5 per cent of total services. Singapore, the United States (US) and China were the three main destinations for Malaysia's services exports. The agency said that Asia also remained the major source of imports with a share of 58.6 per cent or RM149.0 billion. PM Anwar hosts Kyrgyz President Zhaparov in Putrajaya
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hosted an official luncheon in honour of visiting Kyrgyz Republic President Sadyr Zhaparov at the Seri Perdana today. Zhaparov, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday for a two-day official visit, was welcomed by Anwar at the prime minister's official residence at 11 am. He was also warmly received with a 'Welcome to Malaysia' greeting by 117 pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 5(1). Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Muhamad Hasan, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Higher Education Minister, as well as several Kyrgyz Cabinet members, also attended the luncheon. Earlier, Zhaparov was accorded an official welcome at Perdana Putra, followed by a meeting with Anwar where they deliberated on strengthening bilateral cooperations in trade and investment, renewable and green energy, halal industry, agricommodity, as well as capacity-building assistance through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
