In his 1975 book "The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again)", Andy Warhol, said if he could hire anyone on retainer, he'd hire a boss. 'I think a boss would be a good person to have around,' he said. I can relate. When you're the business owner, you're in charge of how you spend your time. But sometimes, you just want someone to tell you what to do.
LinkedIn is no different. You could spend hours on the platform. You could ignore it all together. If only there was a plan you could follow to build your account and generate leads without the indecision.
If you've got the commitment, here's the plan for you. My LinkedIn is about to hit 40,000 followers. I've been intentional about LinkedIn for the last 18 months and have figured out how to get big results in half the time. Remarkable results with minimal effort.
Time isn't the issue. Focus is. Most business owners bounce around LinkedIn without direction. They post dull company announcements no one reads or share inspirational quotes stolen from Instagram. They spend hours scrolling the feed but never connect with potential clients or collaborators. That's a losing strategy and you know it. Here's what to do instead.
If you want to grow on LinkedIn, you have to comment. But it doesn't have to take hours. Once a day, at the same time each day, spend 10 minutes commenting where potential clients hang out. Select 10 active accounts with audiences similar to your target market and save their profile URLs in a bookmark folder. Visit these profiles daily and leave thoughtful comments on their recent posts.
Your strategic commenting creates visibility with new audiences while building relationships with potential collaborators. When your dream customers regularly see your name adding value to discussions, they remember you when they need what you offer.
Once a week, block out some LinkedIn post writing time. Aim to create five posts, then post the best three. Focus on quality over quantity. Each time you sit down to write, pick a theme. Maybe it's success stories, mistakes you've made, or lessons you've learned. Break each down into clear steps anyone can apply. Use AI to turn one idea into more and schedule them each day (or every few days) at the exact same time.
Post structure matters. Keep examples of posts you like as models, studying their structure rather than their content. Don't skip adding a compelling hook that stops the scroll. End with a question that invites engagement. No filler updates. Every post should solve a specific problem for your audience, or make them feel a specific way.
Afternoon check in. Save 5 minutes for responding to comments and messages on your post. When someone comments, reply thoughtfully. You could ask a follow-up question. You could add more context. Turn comments into conversations by staying present and engaged.
People who engage with your content are raising their hands. They're interested in what you share. Message them privately to learn more about their goals and challenges. Use their comment as an excuse to get in touch in the DMs.
Private conversations are your goal. Realness with your dream customers is the aim of this game. Your DMs should be pinging with new messages all the time. Each day, batch through responses in 5 minutes. Use an inbox management tool like Kondo for maximum efficiency.
Engaging with people on the feed is limited. Building familiarity happens behind closed doors. Be conversational. Ask questions that are easy to respond to. Get them talking. Get to know them. Understand their world and how you can help. I don't mean asking them to book a call straight away. I mean being human with your interactions so it's the next natural step.
Your process on LinkedIn is simple. Comment on other people's posts to get more engagement on your own. Make sure your updates are high quality and a solid reflection of your brand. Attract in comments, then engage in the DMs. Build connections and relationships and increase your surface area for enquiries and luck. The aim is leads and new clients. Spend 5 minutes each week looking at analytics and tracing where your most promising leads came from.
Keep going with this plan and you will see results. 30 minutes a day is ample time. Most people give up too soon. They aren't intentional with their activity. Track these results from day one and get the reps in on repeat. Post, comment, engage, DM. Set a timer for each task to prevent getting sucked into the feed. Use the mobile app for quick engagement during downtime. Save deeper work for desktop sessions.
Your next LinkedIn breakthrough might be just around the corner. Building your reputation takes less time than you believe. Use this daily plan to get the reps in and stack the benefits in your favour. Engage, post, comment, and message privately. Keep going for glory. The following will grow. The leads will arrive.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The NBA's talks with FIBA and other entities about the process of adding a new league in Europe are continuing, Commissioner Adam Silver said, though he noted that it may take at least a couple more years to turn the ideas into reality. Silver spoke at a league event to unveil a refurbished Boys & Girls Club in Oklahoma City on Friday — an off day for the NBA Finals — and said it's difficult to put a specific timeline on the Europe plans. 'I will say it's measured in years, not months,' Silver said. 'So, we're at least a couple years away from launching. It would be an enormous undertaking. And while we want to move forward at a deliberate pace, we also want to make sure that we're consulting with all the appropriate stakeholders, meaning the existing league, its teams, European players, media companies, marketing partners. There's a lot of work to be done.' Silver and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis announced in March that the league and the game's governing body are finally taking long-awaited steps to form a new league, with an initial target of 16 teams. It had been talked about for years, and decades even on some levels. And since the NBA and FIBA went public with their idea to move forward, talks have gotten more constructive, Silver said. Silver said the NBA has been talking directly with the EuroLeague and with some member clubs about a partnership. It's his preference that the NBA work with the existing league on some level, though it's still too early to say exactly what that means. 'Either way, we continue to feel there are an enormous number of underserved basketball fans in Europe and that there's a strong opportunity to have another league styled after the NBA,' Silver said. About one in every six current NBA players hails from Europe, including Denver's Nikola Jokic (Serbia) and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) — who have combined for five of the last seven MVP awards — along with the Los Angeles Lakers' Luka Doncic (Slovenia) and San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama (France). The NBA's board of governors will talk more about next steps with the European plans in July at their scheduled meeting in Las Vegas, Silver said. It's possible that the European venture could be unveiled in some way — or possibly start — around the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, just given how much attention will be on international basketball at that time. 'That might be a good launching pad for an announcement around a new competition,' Silver said. Some of the cities that are expected to have interest in being part of the new venture include London, Manchester, Rome and Munich. There will be others, of course. 'We haven't had direct conversations yet,' Silver said. The order instructs the FAA to end the overland supersonic ban and create noise-based certification standards, allowing faster-than-sound travel as long as no audible sonic boom reaches the ground. 'The reality is that Americans should be able to fly from New York to LA in under four hours,' Michael Kratsios, the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, told reporters Friday. The move could help accelerate commercial supersonic flight development, including efforts by Boom Supersonic. In January, Boom's XB-1 demonstrator became the first privately developed civil aircraft to break the sound barrier over the continental U.S. Asked for comment Friday, Boom CEO Blake Scholl wrote 'Booooom!' in an email to TechCrunch. Netflix Inc. shareholders overwhelmingly rejected the reelection of venture capitalist Jay Hoag to the board of the streaming company after he was called out for failing to attend enough meetings. Hoag, a founding general partner of Menlo Park, California-based TCV, received 71.4 million votes backing his reelection and 259.9 million votes against, according to a Netflix filing Friday. The proxy adviser ISS had urged investors to reject the nomination, saying Hoag didn't attend enough board meetings last year. The board didn't disclose a reason, ISS said. Netflix said he attended two of the four meetings. Hoag served as the company's lead independent director and was chair of the board's nominating and governance committee, according to company filings. He has been a Netflix director since 1999. In accordance with Netflix policy, Hoag offered his resignation on June 5. The board plans to respond in 90 days. Netflix declined to elaborate beyond the filing. In April, the company revealed he planned to sell 127,000 shares of its stock. Shares of Netflix fell less than 1% to $1,241.48 Friday in New York. They have gained 39% this year.
