The Project stars go on rant about 'toxic masculinity' infecting young Aussie men

Daily Mail24-04-2025

Stars of Channel 10's The Project have shared fears about the growing impact of toxic masculinity and 'manosphere' influencers like the notorious Andrew Tate.
Hosts of the panel show, including Waleed Aly and Georgie Tunny, aired their concerns during a segment on Thursday's show about the rise of online 'alpha male' culture and its impact on young men.
According to a new study conducted by the Movember Institute, influencers who spouted similar attitudes to Tate are causing more harm to Australian youths than previously thought.
The Project's report concluded that alpha male influencers were creating 'long-lasting and damaging effects [which has become] the norm.'
'I don't know what's more terrifying, the concept of being the parent to a young boy or a young girl who is navigating this world,' said Georgie during the segment.
'You are constantly being told be careful, you've got to protect yourself and [that] "men bad", '"boys bad" and they are the enemy in a way...
'But then is it more terrifying to be parents to a young boy who's got the same images and rhetoric flying at him?'
Georgie then asked 'where are the positive role models?' for young men.
'Why are they [influencers] constantly calling out the negative ones?' she said.
Panelist Susie Youssef addressed the difficulties of queer kids and kids transitioning in the current online climate.
'There's such a broad spectrum here toward gender and sexuality and its heartening in a way to see young men questioning the role models they've been provided with' she said.
'But also where are the positive male role models that are masculine? What does that look like? I don't begin to have the answers but it does feel like there's a gap here.'
Waleed, meanwhile, set out to explain the attraction that influencers have for young people.
'Does our culture have a way of talking about masculinity that is celebrating it?' he asked.
Susie Youssef asked: 'Where are the positive male role models that are masculine? What does that look like? I don't begin to have the answers but it does feel like there's a gap here'
'I think the answer to that right now is "no".
It comes after Andrew Tate was compared to terrorists and religious extremists by Australian academics.
They also found Tate's attacks on boys and men who don't fit 'his very rigid interpretation of masculinity' are far more common than his sexist views on women.
Professor Steven Roberts and Dr Stephanie Wescott of Melbourne's Monash University analysed more than 2,200 posts by Tate on his website and the Telegram messaging platform from December 31, 2019 to January 9, 2024.
'The extremist radicalisation of boys and men by 'manfluencer' Andrew Tate shares concerning parallels to other forms of radicalisation, such as terrorist and religious extremism,' the study found.
The experts said their analysis showed that 'what might seem like innocuous or harmless 'self-improvement' content is a gateway to more dangerous misogynistic and extremist content.
Almost 90 per cent of the posts by Tate on his website and Telegram account focused 'on advancing particular projections of what he views as the ideal manifestation of manhood and masculinity,' the research found.

Emotional moment comedian Celeste Barber reveals why The Project axing is 'loss' to the arts - as hard hitting news show replacing it is revealed

Celeste Barber has shared an emotional moment with the outgoing cast of The Project after the show was axed. The comedian said she strong-armed her way onto the show after learning it was in its final days. The 43-year-old said she wanted to express how important the show was to comedians and people in the arts like herself. 'I actually nudged my way in to come onto the show tonight, everyone. I wasn't meant to be on, but when I heard that you guys aren't going to be around for much longer, I wanted to come on and say hi' she said. 'I know other people have said it, there is no other show that does what you guys do. There is no other show that supports the arts, supports touring comedians in this country, there just isn't. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I appreciate it and I hate interviews, I hate them. I never do them. I really don't like them, but I always love coming here and talking with you guys. 'It means the world that you have always got me on. All through the weird stuff that I do' Celeste added. Her comments drew 'awws' from the show's panel of hosts, who were clearly moved. The Project was officially axed after 16 years last week, and will air its final episode on June 27. Network 10 announced the news last Monday, sharing a post to Facebook thanking viewers for their support before announcing the show's replacement. Hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald will also reportedly exit the network, while comedian Sam Taunton will continue his guest appearances on other Ten shows. The news show, which has been in a ratings free-fall since Carrie Bickmore left her seat as host at the end of 2022, has aired 'nearly 4,500 episodes' to date and will wrap up in three weeks. Daily Mail Australia previously revealed The Project was under review and set to be axed on March 16. After announcing The Project was ending, Ten then released another statement announcing a news program will be replacing the axed show. 'Network 10 will be introducing a revised early evening program schedule later this month,' a spokesperson said. 'At the core of the changes will be an expansion of Network 10's successful news coverage, with the launch of a new national one-hour 6pm news, current affairs and insights program six days a week to complement 10's one-hour 5pm local news bulletins. 'This reflects the successful growth in audiences to Network 10 local news bulletins and coverage. Our focus continues to be on serving our free-to-air audiences with more of the content they are increasingly watching.' The new show taking over the slot left behind by the axing of The Project has dropped its first trailer. Channel Ten has shared a glimpse of their upcoming 'classy' current affairs show called 10 News+ in a teaser trailer posted to social media on Tuesday night. In the clip, hosts Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace promise to deliver 'trust and truth' and put the 'truth first' in their reporting on the new show, which begins airing on Monday, June 30 at 6pm, after the five o'clock news bulletin. 'After 30 years as an on the road journalist, travelling to every corner of the globe, two things are constant - trust and the truth' Hitchcock said. 'Covering news can really throw you into the thick of it. You get to see an experience history unfolding' Brace added. 'Now together, we're bringing you 10 News+ at six from Monday, June 30' Hitchcock announced. A preview of what the show will have on offer was then related by Brace, including 'a political party torn apart, conflicts causing chaos, bills pushing families to the brink. 'If it affects your life, we will ask the tough questions' the pair promised.

Just months earlier, Harry had broken up with Joe Blackman - who then moved on with his former best friend Junaid Ahmed. Confirming the relationship, Jam had snapped a selfie as he kissed Harry in a lift, while also sharing a picture of them holding hands. But sadly, Harry has now confirmed their relationship has come to an end. In a Q&A with fans on Instagram, Harry was asked: "Single? Taken? Situationship?" Harry replied: "Very single haha!" The Sun revealed in December that Harry had started dating Jam after jetting to Australia. A source told us at the time: "Harry and Jam have been dating for a few months, he's really happy and he's got his family approval, including his cousin Amy Childs. "His Towie co-stars are chuffed that he's found love again. "They're enjoying some time in Australia together, where Jam is from. They've been going on dates over there and are very loved-up. Towie's Harry Derbidge takes swipe at ex as he finally discovers Joe 'cheated' on him in emotional showdown "Harry is looking forward to the future after the whole Towie saga and split from Joe and wants to put that behind him. "He has healed now and is looking forward to what the future holds." In March, Harry was caught snogging his Towie co-star Freddie Bentley during the cast's trip to Bali. His relationship with Jam, meanwhile, had come just months after his bitter break-up with Joe Blackman. The couple had begun dating in 2023 and their relationship played out on telly screens in Towie. Harry Derbidge's relationship history Harry Derbidge is a Towie OG, having joined the ITV reality show when he was just 16 in 2010. In late 2013, Harry was linked to his Towie co-star Bobby Norris and they began dating in January 2014. The couple's relationship only lasted six months, with them splitting amid rumours Harry had cheated with an ex-boyfriend while in Tenerife. In 2017, Harry began dating Dean Rowland and things quickly got serious. The couple got engaged but were forced to cancel their wedding twice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Harry and Dean even confirmed they had begun the adoption process in 2019, as they were keen to have children. But this was also held up by lockdown and eventually the couple split in October 2021. Dean confirmed on social media at the time: "It's with a really heavy heart and absolute anxiety that I'm sharing this with you all." He added: "There are no secret nor salacious events at the root of decision- just two best friends realising it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives possible." In early 2023, Harry enjoyed a brief fling with Junaid Ahmed. However, they quickly decided they were better off as friends. In July that year, Harry revealed he had moved on with a cryptic photo of his hand on a mystery man's leg. It was later revealed to be Joe Blackman, who made his Towie debut as Harry's boyfriend two months later. Harry and Joe dated for two years and even planned to tie the knot in Las Vegas. But in August last year, they split. Weeks later, Harry was left heartbroken as it was revealed Joe had started dating Junaid. In December 2024, Harry started dating Australian hairdresser Jam Gaud. He was caught snogging Towie co-star Freddie Bentley in March 2025 and confirmed he had secretly split with Jam in June. However, in August last year The Sun exclusively revealed how Harry and Joe had gone their separate ways, just weeks after vowing to marry in Las Vegas. Then days later, we reported that Joe had moved on with Harry's best mate Junaid Ahmed, which left Harry heartbroken. Dani Imbert later told Harry that Joe had "cheated" with Junaid before they had officially broken up. The drama went on to play out in the ITVBe show. In May this year, Junaid revealed he and Joe had taken the next step in their relationship by moving in together. In a statement to The Sun, Junaid said; "So excited for this new journey for myself and Joe.. our dream Essex home.. we've been looking for a while now and ready to start this new chapter." 6 Jam had been given approval by Harry's loved ones Credit: Instagram/ 6 The relationship came after his split with Joe Blackman

UK viewers ‘abandon social lives' as legendary series free to binge on YouTube

Neighbours fans are in for a real treat, as the legendary Australian soap can now be watched from the very beginning. Hopefully this will soften some of the devastating blow dealt in February, when it was confirmed that the serial had been axed once again. This is now the third time in 40 years that the camera have stopped rolling – though it looks unlikely that there will be any chance of a revival after Amazon Prime Video pulled the plug. The streaming giant not only owns the rights to make new episodes, but also host an archive of classic episodes, as well as every instalment from 2012 onwards. Whether or not the serial will remain on the platform after the finale in December remains to be seen, but for now, grieving viewers can take some comfort in the fact distributors Fremantle Media have began daily uploads on video sharing site YouTube. The Neighbours Classics channel is currently up to episode 480, which aired on 1st May 1987 in its home country, and on 8th September 1988 in the UK. A more contemporary offering is hosted by the Neighbours Ramsay St channel, which is currently on episode 6950, from 2014. There hasn't been much fanfare about the new additions, though it hasn't took long for those dedicated to the show to track them down. 'I really wish I hadn't seen this. There goes my social life,' said one on Reddit. 'Hopefully they keep going,' said another. A third added: 'This is great hopefully they show every old ep.' There's some good news if you're fancying a nostalgic binge watch from the start – it's instantly familiar as the show that has gone on to become a global phenomenon. Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) is roaming Ramsay Street, while his mate Shane Ramsay (Peter O'Brien) – who recently returned – lives next door. Things were a lot simpler in 1985, with just three families creating the drama. There was no Lassiters Complex or hotel, as they didn't arrive until the following year. We're first introduced to Shane's younger brother Danny (David Clencie), who is suffering intense nightmares about his brother's diving career, becoming a huge concern for parents Max (Francis Bell) and Maria (Dasha Blahova). In No. 26, cheeky chappy Paul (yes, there were days before he was a ruthless businessman) lives with dad Jim (Alan Dale), grandmother Helen Daniels (Anne Haddy) and his siblings Julie (Vikki Blanche), Scott (Darius Perkins) and Lucy (Kylie Flinker). It wouldn't be until episode 188 that Jason Donovan would take over the role of Scott, making him one of Neighbours' most iconic characters. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Despite that, executive producer Jason Herbsion recently ruled out his return in the next finale, following on from his much-hyped reappearance in 2022. More Trending Completing the early days cast is Des Clarke (Paul Keane), who is in for quite the surprise at his stag do when he meets stripper Daphne Lawrence (Elaine Smith).
