Union government to review tyre import norms as rubber prices fluctuate
Aiming to tighten regulations and prevent illegal import of rubber, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has taken steps for a comprehensive review of the Standard Input Output Norms (SION) rates for tyre products.
According to reports, the DGFT has issued a trade notice announcing a comprehensive review of the SION applicable to automobile tyres.
Earlier, the National Consortium of Rubber Producers' Societies (NCRPS), a collective of rubber farmers, had raised concerns about undue tax-free import of natural rubber under the Advance Authorisation Scheme (Advance Licence) misusing the DGFT norms.
'As per the DGFT notification of 2010, a motor vehicle tyre weighing 100 kg, should contain 44 kg of natural rubber, 8.6 kg of synthetic rubber and 23 kg of carbon.
However, advancement in the tyre manufacturing technology over the past 14 years have led to a decrease in the percentage of natural rubber to 18-28%, while the percentage of synthetic rubber has increased. Due to DFTO not renewing the notification of 2010 on time, the import of rubber is more than doubled by availing duty free benefit. This causes huge tax loss to the country and harm to farmers,' said Babu Joseph, NCRPS general secretary.
Taking a serious note of their concerns over the tyre companies bending the rules under the pretext of Standard Input-Output Norms to suppress domestic prices, the Union Government is moving to update these decades-old norms. These norms, which specify how much raw material is needed to produce a finished export product, are crucial for companies availing of duty exemptions.

'No user fee is charged from two-wheelers at toll plazas located on National Highways and National Expressways across the country…," the government said, adding that the video is related to Uttar Pradesh's Yamuna Expressway that does not fall under the jurisdiction of NHAI. The vidoe claimed that toll tax is being collected from two-wheelers at toll plazas on National Highways and National Expressways, showing a line of bikes on toll plaza. 'This expressway is a state expressway controlled by the YEIDA, where toll rates are decided by YEIDA," they added. Earlier clarification This is not the first time such claims surfaced. In June also the Ministry had to clarify similar rumours. There are no plans to introduce toll charges for two-wheelers." What the Rules Say The Ministry on Thursday said that as per rules, the user fee at toll plazas is charged from four or more wheeled vehicles which include categories like car and light motor, commercial and goods vehicles, truck and heavy construction machinery or multi axle vehicle apart from oversized vehicles. The sub-rule 4 of Rule 3 of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, protects two-wheelers from toll. 'No fee shall be levied for the use of the section of national highway, permanent bridge, bypass or tunnel, as the case may be, by two wheelers, three wheelers, tractors, combine harvesters and animal drawn vehicles," it said, adding these vehicles are not allowed to use the section of national highway where a service road or alternative road is available. In case a service road or alternative road is available and the driver of the two wheeler is making use of the section of national highway, they 'shall be charged fifty per cent of the fee levied on a car". Online Gaming Bill 2025: Government to support and recognise esports, prohibits online money games
The Union Government on Wednesday introduced the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill', 2025, in the Lok Sabha, seeking to promote and regulate esports, educational, and social games while imposing a complete ban on online money games. The Bill defines 'e-sport' as an online game played as part of multi-sport events involving organised competitive contests between individuals or teams. These events are conducted in multiplayer formats under pre-defined rules and recognised under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025. It specifies that outcomes in esports are determined solely by players' skills, such as physical dexterity, mental agility, and strategic thinking. To encourage the growth of esports, the Centre will frame guidelines for events, establish training and research institutions, introduce incentive and awareness programmes, coordinate with State governments and sports federations, and undertake other measures to support the sector. The Bill also provides a clear distinction between esports and 'online money games.' An 'online money game' is defined as any game — based on skill, chance, or both — where a user pays fees, deposits money, or stakes something in the expectation of winning monetary or other rewards. Esports are excluded from this category. India has made notable progress in international esports. DGFT informs exporters about trade agreement with UK
1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur office of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) held a seminar to apprise exporters of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement signed with the United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday.
