Kraft Heinz to sell Italian baby food business to NewPrinces for 120 million euros
Kraft Heinz
has agreed to sell its Italian infant and speciality businesses, including the Plasmon, Nipiol and Aproten brands, to Italian food group
NewPrinces
, Kraft said on Thursday.
The business, which also includes some other smaller brands and a production plant in Italy, reported 170 million euros in revenue last year, with a core profit of 17 million euros, NewPrinces, formerly known as Newlat, said in a separate note.
Its enterprise value was set at 120 million euros ($140.72 million), NewPrinces said.
Shares in NewPrinces were trading 4.7% higher on the Milan bourse at around 0915 GMT.
The deal, expected to close by late 2025 and subject to regulatory approval, is in line with its strategy to focus on core brands and growth areas, Kraft Heinz said in its statement.
Plasmon is a household name in Italy, particularly for its baby biscuits and food. The country is the brand's largest market, but revenue has been increasingly affected by Italy's low birth rate.
Kraft Heinz was advised by Houlihan Lokey as financial advisor, while NewPrinces was advised by Vitale&Co.

Karnataka Kolhapuri Chappal makers seek PRADA's support
Kolhapuri chappal makers in Athani have appealed to PRADA, a Italian fashion house that is facing allegations of 'stealing' design ideas from India, to set up a training centre for artisans in Athani in Belagavi district. This follows a visit of PRADA designers to Kolhapur last week. The European company had faced criticism after one of its footwear had striking resemblance to Kolhapuri chappals. The Italian team interacted with artisans and traders in Kolhapur, but they are yet to visit Athani and surrounding villages where the footwear is traditionally made. 'Most of the production of Kolhapuri chappals happens in Karnataka, while most of the sale happens in Maharashtra. They are named after the city they are sold in, not made in. Maharashtra artisans, some of who are our relatives, have told us that PRADA designers promised them training, scholarships and commissioned production. We are seeking similar benefits too,' said Shivaraj Soudagar, who runs a Kolhapuri chappal making cluster in Athani. Manmanth Kumar, an artisan from Madabhavi near Athani said that remunerative prices for Kolhapuri chappals would sustain the craft. 'Children of most artisans are out of the craft now. They are taking up menial jobs like security guards and sweepers in big cities. If our chappals get better prices, there is a likelihood of at least young men and women coming back to take it up,' he said. Babu Jagjivanram Karnataka leather industries development corporation (LIDKAR) is coordinating with the Italian fashion house, Rakesh Kumar, commissioner, social welfare, said. 'Welfare of artisans will form the basis of all our negotiations with PRADA,' he said. Mundaragi Nagaraju, chairman, LIDKAR, said Karnataka would not fall behind in demanding its rights to the craft. 'The GI tag belongs to both Karnataka and Maharashtra. Karnataka has 30 times more chappal artisans compared to Maharashtra. While Maharashtra has only around 80 registered artisans, Karnataka has around 1,860. I have instructed officials to meet the Italian company officers in Bengaluru soon to demand that PRADA set-up a training centre to train artisans in new age designs and help their ware get better prices,' he said. K.M. Vasundhara, managing director, LIDKAR, said Karnataka was the first to send a legal notice to PRADA following the controversy. 'PRADA would not take up developmental or corporate social responsibility initiatives without involving Karnataka. They are willing to train our artisans and help them sell their produce for better prices, by commissioning craft works or branding local production. They have offered to take artisans to Italy or send their resource persons here,' she said. She further said that officials from Karnataka and Maharashtra had held a first round of meeting with PRADA officials. 'They asked for some details from us like the infrastructure being provided to artisans, compliance of child labour norms, etc. We told them our cluster facilities are of global standards. We are providing all details. A second meeting is scheduled for September,' she said.

Air Canada Flights Suspended After 10,000 Crew Members Go On Strike
Air Canada's flight attendants went on strike Saturday, as the airline announced a complete shutdown of operations, creating summer travel chaos for its 130,000 daily passengers. "We are now officially on strike," the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents Air Canada's 10,000 flight attendants, said in a statement. Air Canada, which flies directly to 180 cities worldwide, said it had "suspended all operations" in response to the work stoppage. "Air Canada is strongly advising affected customers not to go to the airport," it said, adding that it "deeply regrets the effect the strike is having on customers." CUPE was in a legal position to strike as of 12:01 am (0401 GMT), after delivering a 72-hour strike notice on Wednesday. The strike began at 12:58 am, both sides confirmed. Air Canada had been gradually winding down operations ahead of the possible labor action. As of 8:00 pm Friday, the airline said it had cancelled 623 flights affecting more than 100,000 passengers. Its full 700-flight daily schedule has been scrapped for Saturday. Unpaid ground work In addition to wage increases, the union says it wants to address uncompensated ground work, including during the boarding process. Rafael Gomez, who heads the University of Toronto's Center for Industrial Relations, told AFP it is "common practice, even around the world" to compensate flight attendants based on time spent in the air. He said the union had built an effective communication campaign around the issue, creating a public perception of unfairness. An average passenger, not familiar with common industry practice, could think, "'I'm waiting to board the plane and there's a flight attendant helping me, but they're technically not being paid for that work,'" he said, speaking before the strike began. "That's a very good issue to highlight," Gomez further said, adding that gains made by Air Canada employees could impact other carriers. Air Canada detailed its latest offer in a Thursday statement, specifying that under the terms, a senior flight attendant would on average make CAN$87,000 ($65,000) by 2027. CUPE has described Air Canada's offers as "below inflation (and) below market value." The union has also rejected requests from the federal government and Air Canada to resolve outstanding issues through independent arbitration. Gomez said he did not expect any stoppage to last long. "This is peak season," he said. "The airline does not want to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue... They're almost playing chicken with the flight attendants." Canada's economy, though showing resilience, has begun feeling the effects of President Donald Trump's trade war, with his tariffs hitting crucial sectors like auto, aluminum and steel. In a statement issued before the strike began, the Business Council of Canada warned an Air Canada work stoppage could add further pain. "At a time when Canada is dealing with unprecedented pressures on our critical economic supply chains, the disruption of national air passenger travel and cargo transport services would cause immediate and extensive harm to all Canadians," it said.
