Chinese traveller to face assault charge tomorrow after KLIA officer hurt
KLIA deputy police chief Superintendent Albany Hamzah said statements from five people, including the officer involved, have already been recorded.
'The Chinese woman will be charged in court tomorrow,' he was quoted as telling Malay news portal BH Online.
Police are investigating her under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant, Section 332 for causing hurt to a public servant, and Section 353 for using criminal force against a public servant.
Albany said the Immigration Department is also investigating the suspect's immigration record.
The alleged assault was reported to have occurred on August 13 at about 7.40pm at the Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 1.
Local media reported that the suspect was with three other Chinese citizens – another adult and two children – during an immigration inspection and turned aggressive when she thought she might miss her flight.

He advised Sabah authorities to step up the necessary actions to enhance the state's tourism image. 'Following a two-day joint sea and land enforcement operation, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture held a meeting with the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and relevant enforcement agencies to address tourism safety issues, illegal operations and enforcement in Sabah. 'In that meeting, I raised several serious weaknesses regarding tourism safety in Sabah, where the safety of tourists is seen as insufficiently protected,' he said in a statement. According to him, statistics showed between 2023 and July 2025, Sabah recorded several tourism-related accidents that caused multiple deaths and injuries. 'In 2023 alone, there were 14 incidents resulting in six deaths and nine injuries; in 2024, 11 incidents with nine deaths and 28 injuries; while in 2025, up to July, there were 23 incidents with two deaths and two injuries. 'These frequent accidents highlight weak safety management and regulatory oversight, which undermine travellers' confidence and damage Sabah's international tourism reputation,' he said. Tiong said during the two-day operation, he personally led officers from the Tourism Licensing and Enforcement Division and Immigration Department, police and other agencies on inspections around Tawau. He said the operation revealed widespread illegal practices, including overloaded tour buses without tour guides; foreigners renting local licences and operating behind the scenes; foreign divers working illegally; non-tourism vehicles carrying passengers; and boats operating with approval. DPM Fadillah urges calm, says early investigation lapses in Zara Qairina case addressed
KUCHING, Aug 17 — The negligence in the initial investigation over Zara Qairina Mahathir's case in Sabah has been addressed, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has assured. According to him, the process after this is further investigation on whether or not any individuals will be charged. 'As Malaysians, let's just leave the matter to the police, and legal action will be taken accordingly. 'Let's not resort to creating negative sentiments that can destroy the peace of our country,' he said when met by reporters after attending a function at Jalan Sultan Tengah here yesterday. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, on July 17, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near here school hostel at around 4am. Adding on, Fadillah expressed hope that everyone would continue to show respect for the nation's judiciary system, policing system and the integrity of the health system. 'This is not the time for people to politicise this issue — an act that may jeopardise the prevailing harmony. 'Allow time for the authorities to investigate transparently until a decision is made. 'If there is indeed an injustice involved, we will see to it that a fairer and more transparent action be taken. 'Right now, let this matter take its course since investigations are underway,' he said. The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), on August 8, announced that the girl's body would be exhumed to allow post-mortem to be conducted, stating that further investigations by the police were necessary to ensure that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly examined. — The Borneo Post

Gemencheh primary school headmistress, 44, dies after collapsing in teachers' room
TAMPIN, Aug 17 — A Chinese national-type primary school headmistress in Gemencheh near here passed away after losing consciousness in the teachers' room today. Tampin police chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman said they received a report regarding the incident at 11.25 am and were informed that the victim had been resting in her room as she was feeling unwell. 'Initial investigations found that the 44-year-old woman had (earlier) attended the school's Entrepreneur Day Programme. 'At 9 am, the victim's colleague found her unconscious and she was taken to Gemencheh Health Clinic, where she was pronounced dead by the attending doctor,' he said in a statement today. Amiruddien said the deceased was sent to the Forensic Department of Tampin Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death, and the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR). — Bernama
