The work of CTV News Vancouver journalists has been recognized with three prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards.
The Radio Television Digital News Association announced the regional winners of the 2025 Murrow Awards on Friday, with veteran CTV News reporters Michele Brunoro and Penny Daflos among the honorees.
Brunoro took home two awards, in the Hard News and News Series categories. She was recognized for an exclusive story on a 13-year-old girl who died at a homeless camp in B.C.'s Fraser Valley, and for a series of stories on a horrific case of child neglect in the province's north.
Daflos won the Investigative Reporting award for her coverage of B.C.'s increasing reliance on for-profit nursing agencies.
All of the regional honorees will be up for national Edward R. Murrow Awards – named after the legendary U.S. broadcast journalist – which will be handed out in August.

Edmonton weather: Risk of increased wildfire smoke in Edmonton area

Modelling from Environment and Climate Change Canada indicates the potential for some thicker wildfire smoke to move into the Edmonton region from the NNW through today. The Air Quality Health Index forecast has conditions dropping from a low risk this morning to a moderate-to-high risk for this afternoon and this evening. Hazy conditions could persist through Wednesday, with the smoke gradually moving off to the east through Wednesday afternoon. Aside from the potential for smoke, we'll have partly cloudy skies in the Edmonton area with a chance of a few scattered showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm, very similar to what we saw Monday. Most of the province remains slightly unstable, so almost all of central and northern Alberta have a chance of seeing some pop-up showers/thunderstorms this afternoon. We're already seeing showers in northwestern Alberta (north of Grande Prairie) this morning. Afternoon highs will depend on the timing of those showers and the thickness of the wildfire smoke. But, I think we should get to around 19 C in the city today. As long as the smoke does start to move out on Wednesday, Edmonton should return to the low 20s Wednesday afternoon and then we're looking at highs in the 23 to 27 C range for Thursday, Friday and the weekend. Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Partly cloudy. 60% chance of a scattered shower or thunderstorm this afternoon. Wildfire smoke increasing. High: 19 Tonight - 60% chance of a scattered shower or thunderstorm early this evening, clearing overnight. Hazy. 9pm: Wednesday - Partly cloudy. Wildfire smoke gradually moving out. Morning Low: 7 Afternoon High: 22 Thursday - Partly cloudy. Morning Low: 9 Afternoon High: 26 Friday - Mix of sun & cloud. Morning Low: 14 Afternoon High: 25 Saturday - Mainly sunny. Morning Low: 12 Afternoon High: 23 Sunday - Mainly sunny. Morning Low: 11 Afternoon High: 27
