New Jaylen Brown, Derrick White Trade Report Hours Before NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Celtics' chances of winning next season's NBA title dramatically decreased when Jayson Tatum ruptured his Achilles in the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks, leaving co-star Jaylen Brown as the best player. The Duke alum will likely miss the entirety of next year, and the Celtics are now looking toward the future.

Boston broke up the nucleus that won the 2023-24 championship by trading Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday and Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. They received Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks for Holiday along with Georges Niang and another second-rounder for Porzingis.
There's also speculation that they could trade Brown or Derrick White, which The Stein Line's Jake Fischer spoke about on Wednesday afternoon.

"I don't believe the Celtics plan to move Jaylen Brown or Derrick White tonight," he reported. "That's been the word out of Boston since May."

White is under contract for three more seasons before his player option in 2028-29, while Brown is scheduled to hit free agency in the summer of 2029.
Brown averaged 22.2 points on 46.3 percent shooting with 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists this past season, while White averaged 16.4 points on 44.2 percent shooting with 4.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
Boston's trades this offseason shed about $24 million in salary, which moved it under the second apron. That will give the club flexibility with free agency and trades.
The Celtics own the Nos. 28 and 32 picks in the 2025 draft. The first round will be on Wednesday night, and the second round will be on Thursday.

North Texas restaurant names pizza after No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg, topped with his favorites

New era begins as Mavs and their fans celebrate Cooper Flagg pick New era begins as Mavs and their fans celebrate Cooper Flagg pick New era begins as Mavs and their fans celebrate Cooper Flagg pick The Mavericks' No. 1 draft pick, Cooper Flagg, is on his way to Dallas and one restaurant is welcoming him with a mix of his favorite things. Motor City Pizza, located off I-35E and Justin Road in Lewisville, introduced The Cooper Flagg Pizza ahead of the draft. After doing some research, the pizzeria said the No. 1 draft pick's favorite food is a chicken bacon ranch steak melt sandwich. So, they turned it into a pizza on June 25. The pizza is a Detroit-style pie with ranch, red bell peppers, bacon and chicken, topped with mixed greens. According to the restaurant's website, The Cooper Flagg Pizza starts at $16.95. To wash it down, Bedford's Turning Point Brewery created a beer inspired by his favorite drink – blue Gatorade – although 18-year-old Flagg won't be able to enjoy it. Motor City did not say how long the pizza will be available. Flagg joins a roster stacked with No. 1 picks The 6-foot-8 forward led the Blue Devils in all five major statistical categories, and has already proven his game can hold up against the pros when he played well last summer during an invite to the U.S. Olympic team's training camp. Flagg will join a Mavericks roster already loaded with talent, including forward Anthony Davis and guard Kyrie Irving, who has reportedly signed a new 3-year contract with Dallas. Flagg will wear No. 32 for the Mavericks.

Red Sox Listed as Suitor for Rockies' All-Star Ryan McMahon Ahead of Trade Deadline

Red Sox Listed as Suitor for Rockies' All-Star Ryan McMahon Ahead of Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox have done a serviceable job patching the hole at first base after Triston Casas' season-ending injury. Although Rafael Devers electing to take over the position was preferred, Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez are combining for a .281 batting average, five home runs, 19 RBIs, and a 0.3 WAR. Again, serviceable, if not surprising. Advertisement Despite the success of Toro and Gonzalez, Red Sox first basemen rank 25th in baseball, according to FanGraphs, including the short stints of Casas and Nick Sogard. As the trade deadline approaches, it is evident the Red Sox can improve the position. While Diamondbacks' slugger Josh Naylor or Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn would be tremendous acquisitions, NESN's Jay Pritchard believes Boston should make a move for Colorado Rockies' infielder Ryan McMahon as their deadline upgrade. Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon (24) hits a home run against the Atlanta Braves during the seventh inning at Truist Zanine-Imagn Images McMahon, 30, is primarily a third baseman but did spend time at first base through the first five years of his career. Though 75 games, McMahon is slashing .225/.311/.416 – all noticeably lower than the combined numbers of Toro and Gonzalez. Power is where McMahon makes up the difference. With 12 home runs and 25 RBIs, McMahon would become their best-hitting first baseman this season and the third-most home runs on the team. Advertisement McMahon is not just a slugger. He provides tremendous defense, especially at the hot corner, accumulating the second-most defensive runs saved among third basemen. Signed through 2027, McMahon will not come cheap, and prying players away from Colorado is never easy, but it is the insurance McMahon can provide that makes a deal worth considering. Third baseman Alex Bregman has a player option for the 2026 season that he is not expected to exercise. With Devers now gone, Boston will do their best to retain Bregman, but if the two-time All-Star elects to leave, having McMahon, a former All-Star in his own right, on the roster cushions the potential blow. The Red Sox deadline approach is unknown after the Devers trade. Will chief baseball officer Craig Breslow be aggressive or do just enough to keep the team afloat while preparing for a bigger free agency plan? For an organization currently in a transition period, acquiring McMahon might be the happy medium. Insider Links Red Sox to Josh Naylor and Ryan O'Hearn After Rafael Devers Trade

Insider Links Red Sox to Josh Naylor and Ryan O'Hearn After Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. First base has been an enigma for the Boston Red Sox. First, Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury, and then Rafael Devers refused to take over the position due to disagreements with the front office. Since then, Boston has relied on a platoon at the position featuring Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez. While their performance has been serviceable, Boston's first basemen rank 26th in baseball with a negative 0.7 WAR, making a position upgrade necessary if they want to push for a playoff spot. Advertisement According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are eyeing two of the top first basemen at the trade deadline. 'The other thing they are going to look at is first base. Now, Abraham Toro has done very well so far at first base, but he has not been considered a 'starting' first baseman. I'll throw out a couple of names there, potentially, for the Red Sox,' said Heyman. 'One would be Josh Naylor. Again, the Diamondbacks are not expected to be a seller, but if they are, there would be a feeding frenzy for him. [He's a] very good player and RBI guy. That's a guy they would consider.' Naylor, 28, is slashing .303/.358/.465 with nine home runs and 49 RBIs this season. The Arizona Diamondbacks' first baseman would be an excellent addition to Boston's lineup and replace the power absent since Devers departed. The one hiccup could be Naylor's status as a rental, but it could also allow the All-Star to experience Boston before free agency and potentially lead to him re-signing. Heyman continued by mentioning Baltimore Orioles' slugger Ryan O'Hearn as the other player Boston is targeting. Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan O'Hearn (32) reacts while hitting a home run during the eighth inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Oriole Park at Camden Hildred-Imagn Images O'Hearn, 31, is in a similar position to Naylor, serving as a rental option at the deadline. However, he could be harder to acquire due to playing in the AL East and the Orioles wanting to refrain from trading him within the division. If Boston wins the O'Hearn sweepstakes, he would not only add a power-hitting bat to the lineup but another option in the outfield, which could give the team the freedom to make a subsequent move involving Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu. Advertisement The Red Sox are currently six games behind the AL East lead and half a game behind the final Wild Card spot. Swinging a trade for Naylor or O'Hearn could be the piece to catapult them into the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
