
True Religion teams up with Bella Doña for summer capsule
Founded by best friends LaLa Romero and Natalia Durazo, Bella Doña has long been a voice for Chicana culture, infusing streetwear with tradition, nostalgia, and power. The new capsule combines that ethos with True Religion's iconic denim DNA.
The 18-piece collection channels early 2000s style with highlights including ultra-flared jeans with western appliqué, Spanish slang tees, flashy crystal embellishments, and dramatic cutouts.
'Like True Religion, Bella Doña is meant to stand as more than just an apparel brand—instead representing a larger cultural movement deeply rooted in community and self-expression. It is this alignment of values and fashion that make them the ideal partner,' said Kristen D'Arcy, chief marketing officer of True Religion.
The collection is now available at truereligion.com. It includes tops in sizes XXS to XXXL and bottoms from size 24 to 42, with prices ranging from $39 to $139.

Thieves steal $7,000 worth of Labubu dolls from California store
A gang of masked burglars has stolen roughly $7,000 (€6,010) worth of Labubu dolls from a toy store in California – the latest sign of just how wild the global craze for the collectible figures has become. The break-in happened around 1:29 a.m. on Wednesday 6 August at One Stop Sales, a shop in La Puente, just east of Los Angeles, known for stocking the hugely popular dolls. Surveillance footage posted online shows at least four people in hoodies and face coverings smashing their way into the store, rifling through shelves, and carrying out box after box of merchandise. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the group used a stolen white Toyota Tacoma to flee the scene. The truck was later recovered, but the suspects remain on the run. A post shared by One Stop Sales (@onestopsaless) 'We are still in shock,' the store posted on Instagram, alongside footage of the incident and images showing shattered glass and trashed displays. "We worked so hard to get to this point, [only] for them just to come in and like nothing take it all away," co-owner Joanna Avendano told local ABC affiliate KABC-TV. The burglars made off with the shop's entire Labubu inventory – and given the dolls' exploding popularity, that's no small loss. Created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, Labubu's creepy-cute characters first launched in 2015 and have since become a global obsession. Originally retailing for about $30 (€25,75) , the dolls now sell for hundreds – even thousands – on the resale market. Pop Mart, the Chinese toy giant behind Labubu, reported a whopping $1.8 billion (€1.55 billion) in revenue in 2024, more than double the previous year. The dolls have found fans among A-listers like Rihanna, Lizzo and BLACKPINK's Lisa, and scenes of fans queuing around the block at Labubu pop-ups are now a regular feature on social media.

Meet the Austrian carpenter safeguarding precious flutes
In his workshop overlooking the Austrian town of Dornbirn, Elmar Kalb usually designs and creates objects that many other carpenters also make: benches, tables, chairs, wooden trays and bookshelves. But in 2018, the carpenter started working on a very different project: reinventing instrument cases for flutes. Kalb had been approached by Korean-born flutist Jasmine Choi after the musician had experienced an unfortunate incident with her flute. Running to catch a flight to a concert, Choi didn't notice her flute case slipping out from her bag. The case fell to the ground, opened, and the precious instrument tumbled out. Although flute cases are built to be sturdy to protect the fragile instruments from shocks, most models do not really keep the flutes locked in place inside, according to Kalb. If cases are accidentally opened upside down - a frequent occurence for many musicians at airport security controls - the flute falls out. If a case falls to the floor, it can open and also damage the flute, just like Choi had experienced. "After many, many years of development, we have now created a flute case using a very particular technology, a mix of carbon fibres and wood, to make sure that the flute case is robust, but light," Kalb tells Euronews Culture. And crucially, the case contains a system of modulable clips that hold the flute firmly in place and can be adjusted to the lengths of different flute models. Jasmine Choi owns one of Kalb's "smart cases". And she's not the only one. Together with four colleagues, Vienna Symphony Orchestra principal flutist Stefan Tomaschitz has come to Kalb's workshop to perform a small concert on a chilly evening in early August. It is a way for him to thank Kalb for his invention, which has been protecting his fragile and expensive flute - prices for professionals' instruments can go up to €100,000 - for more than a year already. For the flutist, the advantages of the case compared to other models are clear. He recalls a conversation with his instrument's insurance company: "My insurer told me that he once visited the flute-building atelier in Vienna, where the director showed him how the precious instruments were being stored, so in the [conventional] cases where the flutes aren't secured." This created a major dilemma for the insurance company. "The insurer was horrified and had to reconvene with the company until they had contacted all flute manufacturers who told them, yes, this is how everyone actually stores and transports the flutes," the musician says. For Tomaschitz, using Kalb's flute case eases his mind whenever and wherever he travels with his instrument. And it allows him to focus on what he does best: make music.
