Two stars of the "Harry Potter" films, including actress Emma Watson, were each banned from driving for six months Wednesday after being caught speeding in separate incidents.
Watson, 35, who played Hermione Granger, the friend of boy wizard Potter in the hugely popular movie franchise, was banned for driving at 38 miles (61 km) an hour in a 30-mile zone in southeastern Banbury last July.
Zoe Wanamaker, 76, who played Quidditch teacher Madame Hooch in "Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone", was banned for six months for her offence.
She had been caught driving at 46 miles an hour in a 40-mile zone of the M4 motorway in southeastern Berkshire last August.
The cases were dealt with separately by a lower magistrates court in the town of High Wycombe.
Neither of the stars attended the hearings, at which they were each fined $1,400.
Watson, who was stopped while driving her blue Audi, has been studying at Oxford University. Her lawyer told the court that although she was a student "she is in a position to pay the fine".

Google Maps-led drive ends in mishap as Audi falls into ditch in Maharashtra's Belapur, woman rescued

In a tragic incident, an Audi car driven by a woman plunged into a ditch in Belapur, Maharashtra while following Google Maps. The woman, who was going to Ulwe, was following the navigation of Google Maps when the incident occurred. She was saved. Assistant Police Inspector Belapur Narayan Palampalle said: 'At about 1:00 a.m. on Friday, we received information about an incident involving an Audi car that had fallen into the Belapur ditch. Our team, along with marine security guards and local police, went there and found that a woman was heading towards Ulwe, following Google Maps.' Assistant Police Inspector Narayan Palampalle said the car went below the bridge and fell into the ditch instead of crossing it, leading to the accident. Senior police officers were informed, and the woman was safely rescued with the help of a marine security team's boat. Because of this, instead of going over the bridge, her car went below and fell into the ditch, causing the accident. We provided information to senior police officers. With the assistance of the boat belonging to the marine security team, we safely rescued the woman. She was alone in that car when the incident happened."

Navi Mumbai mishap: Audi plunges into ditch in Belapur after driver follows Google Maps; rescued

NEW DELHI: A woman was rescued early Friday morning after her car plunged into a ditch in Belapur, Navi Mumbai, reportedly while she was following directions from Google Maps. The incident occurred around 1.00am when the driver, heading towards Ulwe in an Audi, apparently took a wrong turn under a bridge and ended up in the water. Authorities believe the route suggested by the navigation app misled her away from the correct road. 'We received a call about a car that had fallen into the Belapur ditch. Our team, along with marine security guards and local police, responded immediately,' an official said. The woman, who was alone in the vehicle, was pulled out safely with the help of a rescue boat operated by the marine security team. Police have informed senior officials and are examining the circumstances of the incident, including whether poor lighting or road signage may have contributed.
