Breece Hall ready for ‘last chance' at true Jets breakout — and a big payday
Two of his Jets teammates in his draft class — Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson — signed large contract extensions this offseason. Yet Hall is set to be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
But he does not yet believe he's done enough to earn a long-term deal of his own.
'I'm not really expecting it before the season,' Hall said after practice Saturday. 'We got a new head coach, a new GM, obviously I wasn't drafted by them, I'm not their guy. I gotta prove it every day.'
Hall has shown flashes of stardom across his three years in the league, but has not firmly established himself in that elite tier of dual-threat running backs that Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey and Jahmyr Gibbs occupy.

Last year, the addition of Braelon Allen and the dramatic increase in pass attempts with a healthy Aaron Rodgers resulted in a smaller workload than Hall had become accustomed to.
His rushing yardage (876), receiving yardage (483) and efficiency (4.2 yards per carry) were all down from the prior season.
Allen, who was drafted in the fourth round last year, showed promise as a rookie, recording 334 rushing yards and 148 receiving yards in a complementary role.
Coach Aaron Glenn has suggested he intends to use three running backs — Hall, Allen and Isaiah Davis — in a system similar to what the Lions utilized when Glenn was there.
Hall still believes he's a three-down running back, though. And he hears the clock ticking.

'I got a chip on my shoulder,' Hall said. 'I feel like right now, 'OK this is my last chance.' For me it's always been, 'Oh he has potential, he's got potential,' but I want to be the product. Now, it's all about putting my head down and working. I don't really want to discuss all the other stuff, I just try to focus on ball right now.'
Justin Fields is a strong runner at quarterback, providing the potential of a dangerous running duo along with Hall.

And Hall has enjoyed offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand's plans for him and Fields.
'I think from a whole offensive standpoint, we're all really bought into this run scheme,' Hall said. 'I think it fits our backs more. I think it makes a lot more sense to the guys up front and the reasoning why we're doing everything and what we're doing it for, how we're gonna set other plays up with our run game. To see how much we've all bought into it and trust in our coaches, it's been good.'

Chargers' Jim Harbaugh sounds off on Zion Johnson's trial run at new position
The post Chargers' Jim Harbaugh sounds off on Zion Johnson's trial run at new position appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Chargers invested a lot in Zion Johnson before current head coach Jim Harbaugh even arrived, but the passionate and quirky leader is still intent on maximizing the 25-year-old offensive lineman's abilities. Though, in order to that, a position change might be necessary. LA is converting the guard to a center, and in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Detroit Lions, the team got to see the early results of this experiment. Johnson struggled with his new responsibilities and has work to do when it comes to snapping the ball, but Harbaugh offered him a solid review. 'I thought Zion did good,' the 2011-12 NFL Coach of the Year and 2023-24 national champion told the media after the Chargers' 34-7 win versus the Lions, per Alex Insdorf. 'Great player for us. Really had never played center. An offseason project. Probably the most athletic lineman, maybe our smartest. I thought he did a heck of a job.' Harbaugh loves to instill confidence in his guys, so fans will obviously take the high praise with a grain of salt. Johnson has adjustments to make and nuances to grasp at center, but his HC is willing to exercise some patience while he tries to navigate all the inevitable challenges. The No. 17 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft understands the importance of maximizing this opportunity. The Chargers need to see Zion Johnson take a big leap this season The Bolts declined his fifth-year option during the offseason, so this could be Johnson's last campaign starting in the trenches for Los Angeles. Despite making noticeable improvements last season, he still recorded underwhelming 63.6 and 64.8 grades in pass-blocking and run-blocking, respectively, according to Pro Football Focus. Johnson also allowed five sacks and 33 total pressures. After three years, it is time to try something different. Jim Harbaugh clearly believes that sliding the former Boston College powerhouse to the middle is 'that something different.' Ideally, Johnson got the jitters out in his first in-game start at center and will operate with more conviction during the rest of preseason play. His scuffles did not seem to faze backup quarterback Trey Lance, who completed 13-of-20 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Running back Kimani Vidal added two scores on the ground, and the defense stifled Detroit signal-callers Kyle Allen and Hendon Hooker. Overall, the Chargers enjoyed a productive trip to Canton, Ohio. They will try to keep the good vibes rolling through training camp. How Zion Johnson improves following this opening exam will be particularly interesting. And crucial. Former 1st Round QB Is Having An Awful Training Camp
Former 1st Round QB Is Having An Awful Training Camp originally appeared on The Spun. Either the New York Jets' defense is really good, or Aaron Glenn and Co. potentially have a big problem on their hands. After moving on from Aaron Rodgers this offseason and deciding to go in a younger direction by signing Justin Fields, the former No. 11 pick is reportedly having a really tough time getting his rhythm going during the team's training camp. According to SNY's Connor Hughes who was on-hand at this morning's practice, the Jets' passing game is "is not good at [the] moment." Adding, "Justin Fields finished 9 of 17 with 2 interceptions. I did not have a completion beyond five air yards. He took three sacks. Stats do not include 1 of 4 passing with an INT in 7o7 period." "Fields has had a rough go of it lately. He is 15 of 43 passing (34%) with the two INTs in full-team work his last three practices." This definitely wasn't the news folks in the tri-state wanted to hear to start the week. "And what was the reason why Tyrod wasn't given a fair shot in training camp again?" a user asked. "I'm staying silent," another commented. "Steelers-Jets is going to have a final score of 6-3," a fan predicted. "Still baffles me the jets made this move," another person said. "Steelers dodged one," another user posted. "Not a training camp merchant but a completion percentage shouldnt look like a batting average." "We will always have Ohio State," a Fields fan coped. If practice was always perfect there wouldn't be any reason to do it. But it's never great to hear about a QB struggling in any context — especially when they play for a franchise that's pretty much been starving for one since the Ford administration. There's still time to get things corrected — and Fields has been dealing with a toe injury — but Jets fan are only going to have so much patience before they get tired of watching the same old movie for the last 14 1st Round QB Is Having An Awful Training Camp first appeared on The Spun on Aug 5, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 5, 2025, where it first appeared.
