Key contract detail suggests Adam Nightingale will be with MSU hockey for long haul
Michigan State hockey head coach Adam Nightingale officially signed a new deal with the program on Friday, and there's a new detail in the contract that should help keep in East Lansing, Mich. for the long haul.
Nightingale has experienced a ton of success in a short amount of time at Michigan State, winning the Big Ten regular season and conference tournament titles in back-to-back seasons, which resulted in No. 1 seeds in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments as well. That kind of success has resulted in some (including myself) worrying he may be a target for a NHL coaching position in the near future. Good news for Michigan State, though, is that his new contract extension (which is through 2030) has a greatly increased buyout should someone want to poach him away.
Connor Earegood of The Detroit News posted on social media platform X on Friday that Nightingale's buyout over the next three years has more than doubled to $2 million. The buyout from there will drop but still a notable amount throughout most of his contract. You can see the exact numbers in Earegood's post below:
This is the type of move from both Michigan State and Nightingale that shows he plans to be with the Spartans hockey program for a longtime. Which is really good news for Spartans everywhere.
Michigan State will enter next season as a preseason top five team, with some already pegging them as the No. 1 team in way-too-early rankings. So, it's safe to say things are great for Michigan State hockey right now, and the news out of Friday only furthered those positive vibes for the Spartans.

How former Alabama golfers performed during second round of 2025 U.S. Open

How former Alabama golfers performed during second round of 2025 U.S. Open After a down showing Thursday for some, four former Alabama Crimson Tide golfers took to the course at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania on Friday for the second round of the 2025 U.S. Open. With every name likely needing a big day Friday to make it to the weekend, the second round however ended up in a similar fashion to the first for some, as the group struggled altogether, and now as a result, missed the cut. Because of this, it means that Alabama will not have a player represented in the final two rounds of the 2025 U.S. Open over the weekend. Here is a look at how every former Alabama golfer at the 2025 U.S. Open performed during the second round on Friday. Bud Cauley Round 2 Score: 79 (+9) 79 (+9) Tournament Score: +9 (T-80) +9 (T-80) Round 3 Tee Time: N/A After an impressive round of 70 on Thursday, Cauley struggled Friday at Oakmont by shooting a 79 (+9) to sit at nine-over for the tournament. Cauley narrowly missed the cut as a result of this round, being the first Alabama golfer on the outside-looking-in. Justin Thomas Round 2 Score: 76 (+6) 76 (+6) Tournament Score: +12 (T-110) +12 (T-110) Round 3 Tee Time: N/A Thomas had a similar showing Friday to his first round, shooting an identical score of 76, which was six-over par. The former Alabama star now sits at +12 for the tournament, and will miss the cut. Nick Dunlap Round 2 Score: 74 (+4) 74 (+4) Tournament Score: +11 (T-105) +11 (T-105) Round 3 Tee Time: N/A After shooting a 77 on Thursday, Dunlap improved on his score during the second round with a 74 (+4). Dunlap now sits at +11 for the tournament, a score that will result in him missing the cut. Davis Riley Round 2 Score: 77 (+7) 77 (+7) Tournament Score: +15 (T-129) +15 (T-129) Round 3 Tee Time: N/A Lastly, Riley shot a 77 (+7) during the second round, improving on his Thursday score by a shot. Riley will miss the weekend at Oakmont. Contact/Follow us @RollTideWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Alabama news, notes and opinion.

Travis Hunter remains unsigned, Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie contract still in progress

Travis Hunter remains unsigned, Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie contract still in progress From The Insiders on @NFLNetwork: The buzz is real for the #Jaguars and WR/CB Travis Hunter... though his rookie contract may be among the last signed. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 11, 2025 Jacksonville Jaguars rookie and former Colorado star Travis Hunter has yet to sign his rookie contract with the Jaguars, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. After being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, the rookie two-way player is still in negotiations with the Jaguars on his rookie deal. Rapoport reported that the prolonged dialogue between he two sides should not cause Hunter to hold out. Hunter has been practicing with the team during both OTAs and this past week's mandatory minicamp. "I don't expect a holdout," Rapoport reported. "We rarely, rarely, rarely see a holdout, but I do think this will take some time. If you're talking about Jaguars fans, you're talking about Jaguars people, I don't think they have anything to worry about ause he's almost certaintly going to be participating in training camp. You'd think they will figure out a way to get it done by then." Hunter is projected to sign a four-year contract worth approximately $46 million with a signing bonus upwards of $30 million, according to Spotrac. Rapoport also said he "feels" Hunter will be the final first-rounder to sign his contract. Hunter has been impressing during practices this spring, shining at both wide receiver and cornerback. He and quarterback Travor Lawrence have been forming a strong connection during workouts this spring. In his final season at Colorado, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy while racking up a Big 12-leading 96 receptions for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns, leading to the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football. On defense, Hunter racked up 36 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four interceptions, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. No matter when Hunter inks his first professional contract, the two-way superstar should be must-see television during his rookie year in Jacksonville. Wisconsin football has a new highest-ranked commit in the class of 2026

Wisconsin football has a new highest-ranked commit in the class of 2026 Wisconsin football landed a commitment from class of 2026 three-star defensive back Zachary Taylor on Friday. Taylor chose the Badgers over top contenders Houston, Texas Tech and TCU. He completed visits to the latter two on June 3 and May 2, respectively, plus was scheduled to visit Houston on June 19. Just one full week after his June 6 official visit to Madison, Wisconsin, Taylor pledged to the Badgers. 247Sports ranks the Fulshear, Texas, native as the No. 540 overall player in the class of 2026, the No. 43 cornerback and the No. 76 recruit from his home state. He became Wisconsin's 12th commitment in the 2026 cycle. Notably, he is now the highest-ranked recruit of that group, edging three-star defensive lineman Djidjou Bah. His commitment pushed the class up to No. 35 nationally and No. 12 in the Big Ten. Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell and his staff are working to deliver a third consecutive top-25 recruiting class. While the program's 2026 class is a significant distance from that threshold, partially because it is still looking for its first blue-chip commit, several of its top targets remain uncommitted. Taylor's commitment may begin a run of positive recruiting news in that regard.
