100 pink toilets to be built in 16 cities: Minister
(Urban) 2.0 in 10 other cities across Bihar, the urban development and housing department announced on Friday.

In total, 100 pink toilets are being built across 16 urban local bodies as part of an initiative to provide safe, hygienic and private sanitation facilities for women. According to an official press release issued by the department, the project aims to protect women from sexual harassment and violence, while also safeguarding their health and dignity.
Urban development and housing minister Jibesh Kumar highlighted the importance of this initiative in promoting women's well-being.
"Safe, private and hygienic facilities are essential for women's health, dignity and empowerment. The pink toilet initiative is a novel step towards providing high-quality personal hygiene facilities for women and girls in the state," he said.
"These toilets will be equipped with essential amenities such as electricity, water, cleanliness, and, most importantly, the availability of sanitary pads," he added.
Abhay Kumar Singh, secretary of the department, outlined the cities and towns where the pink toilets will be constructed. These include Gaya Municipal Corporation, Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation, Biharsharif Municipal Corporation, Purnia Municipal Corporation, Sasaram Municipal Corporation, Sitamarhi Municipal Corporation, Rajgir Nagar Parishad, Bodh Gaya Nagar Parishad, Sultanganj Nagar Parishad, Bhabua Nagar Parishad, Barahiya Nagar Parishad, Buxar Nagar Parishad, Jale Nagar Parishad, Singhwara Nagar Panchayat, Kamtaul-Ahiyari Nagar Panchayat and Dev Nagar Panchayat.
Also, helpline numbers will be made available for each pink toilet and women caretakers are being appointed to manage and maintain the facilities.

Furnish data on malnutrition in 4 weeks: HC tells MP govt
Bhopal: A division bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court asked district collectors from across the state to file a status report on the malnutrition situation in their respective districts. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf, gave four weeks for this purpose and issued notices to the state govt and the chief secretary in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) moved by a resident of Jabalpur, Deepankar Singh. Singh, in his petition, said that there is an alarming situation in MP regarding malnutrition among its people, but the state govt keeps hiding this terrible state of affairs by 'manipulating' data. He requested the court to ask for a report on malnutrition from the state govt to know the actual state of malnutrition prevalent among the people in MP so that efforts could be made to tackle the menace of malnutrition, particularly among the children. He said that according to the Poshan Tracker-2.0 and National Health Survey report, MP stands second in the country in terms of malnutrition. Undo He further said that CAG, in its report, referred to a massive scam in the transportation and quality of nutritious food, but there was no action on the part of the state govt. The petitioner said that among 66 lakh children in the age group of 0 to 6 years, 10 lakh are malnourished, and 1.36 lakh of them are severely malnourished. The prevalence of anaemia among women is 57%. It was also pointed out during the hearing that Rs 1.80 crore were paid as rent for anganwadi centres in Jabalpur district alone, but only a handful of children visit those centres. After the initial hearing, the court asked all the district collectors from across the state to furnish a report on the status of malnutrition in their respective districts within four weeks. Advocate Amit Singh Sengar and Atul Jain appeared in the case for the petitioner.

Sribhumi set for 24x7 clean tap water with Rs 81.18cr project boost
Silchar: In a major boost to Barak Valley's infrastructure, Assam's public health engineering minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 81.18 crore drinking water supply project in Sribhumi town under the Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban). The ceremony at the Langai water plant was marked by traditional bhoomi pujan rituals and attended by ministers Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul, BJP district president Sanjeev Banik, and senior PHE officials. Addressing a gathering at the Sribhumi District Library auditorium, Mallabaruah reiterated the state govt's commitment to Barak Valley's development. He said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has earmarked Rs 350-400 crore for drinking water projects across the region. "Hailakandi alone has received over Rs 100 crore. Projects for Lala and Badarpur are in the pipeline, and construction will begin soon," the minister said, adding that the AMRUT scheme in Silchar is also progressing. He emphasised that Sribhumi's current water treatment infrastructure — commissioned in 1967 for a population of merely 12,000 — is grossly outdated. "This project is designed to meet the needs of today's Sribhumi," he said. The system will include a 129-km distribution network and five elevated service reservoirs (ESRs), strategically placed to ensure efficient water flow across town. While the project's completion target is December 2028, Mallabaruah urged officials to expedite delivery. "Clean water means fewer hospital visits and a healthier, stronger community," he said.

Welfare package announced for sanitation workers OdishaChief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced a life insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh for sanitation workers, and a compensation of Rs 30 lakh if they lose their lives on duty. Majhi made the announcement after inaugurating a two-day national workshop on 'Transforming Core Sanitation Work -- Safety, Dignity & Inclusion', organised by the Housing and Urban Development department of the Odisha government. 'It is our moral responsibility to provide sanitation workers justice, safety and dignity,' he said, addressing the programme. 'Key sanitation workers, mostly engaged in cleaning sewage and septic tanks, will be provided with life insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh, assistance of Rs 30 lakh for loss of life in the field,' he said. They will also be given mobile phones and allotted houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), he added. Majhi said a 15-day Statewide campaign will be held from August 15 to make sanitation workers aware of the benefits. He said the Jagannath culture also spreads the message of cleanliness. The Chef Minister said the Odisha government's social welfare scheme for sanitation workers, Garima Yojana, has been an inspiration for many States. He said more than 10,000 sanitation workers from 115 cities and towns of the State have been identified for the benefits. 'Today's workshop is an important platform. From this platform, sanitation workers from different States can learn a lot from each other's experiences,' he said. Representatives of seven States were participating in it. On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated an exhibition of modern equipment related to sanitation work. He also felicitated some sanitation workers. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Majhi said it was Modi who launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on August 15, 2014, envisioning sanitation in every household as a prerequisite for India's social and economic development.
