Police officers named in King's Birthday Honours
Three West Midlands Police officers have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours list. Sgt Tim Rogers, retired Det Ch Supt Sam Ridding and retired Det Supt Nigel Walsh were each awarded the King's Police Medal. Ms Ridding was a response officer in Sutton Coldfield, before working her way up to lead the force's professional standards department. Mr Walsh worked in counter terrorism, while Sgt Rogers supports and trains police drivers. "Throughout their careers they have worked tirelessly to make a difference in policing and help others," said West Midlands Police Chief Constable Craig Guildford. "This has ranged from assisting members of the public in their time of need, catching criminals and supporting colleagues." He thanked the officers for their contributions, and said the honours were well-deserved. Ms Ridding's career saw her take on roles investigating kidnapping, murders and corruption. The force said she was widely known among colleagues for her tenacity and relentless work to secure justice for victims and bereaved families. Mr Walsh worked in counter terrorism policing before his retirement earlier this year. Bosses at the force said he had strengthened relationships between policing and security services nationally, and developed ways to protect communities against terrorism. He has since returned to a staff role after retiring as an officer. Sgt Rogers has been secretary of the West Midlands Police Federation, and led a national campaign for law changes to help protect officers in pursuit of suspects or assisting victims. Rex Heuermann's pal describes his infamous basement gun room with 279 firearms: ‘One of only four people' to see it
Creepy alleged serial murderer Rex Heuermann was obsessed with firearms and kept a serious weapons cache in a concrete basement room, which almost nobody was allowed to see. However, one of the few admitted was his friend David Jimenez, a fellow weapons enthusiast who used to go with hulking Heuermann to the firing range. 'I was in that famous 'gun room' several times. He told me, 'You're one of only four people ever to be in this room'. And I said, 'Wow, okay, I'm privileged',' said Jimenez, who appears in new Peacock documentary 'The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets.' 8 Rex Heuermann pictured at a gun range. Peacock Advertisement 'Heuermann has a fascinating collection, and knows everything about each gun. When it was used, if it was altered, he's super knowledgeable when it comes to World War I, World War II, the Korean War, anything with firearms. I was fascinated by that, because I am too. 'And its ironic, because if he did do these killings, it doesn't appear he used a firearm,' Jimenez added to The Post. After Heuermann was arrested in 2023, leading to him being charged with the murders of seven sex workers, police raided the family home and recovered 'approximately 279 weapons' in the 'cluttered' residence, including 'quite a few long guns' and 92 handgun permits. Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison told CBS New York at the time the vault had a large iron door. Authorities later said some of the weapons were there illegally without a permit. Peacock Advertisement 8 David Jimenez says his former pal had a ' fascinating collection' of firearms, all of which were seized by police. Peacock Heuermann's wife, Asa Ellerup, and two grown-up children are not thought to have been allowed in the gun room. Jimenez clarified that while the number of firearms his pal owned sounds like a lot, for a serious collector it was in no way unreasonable. 'He's been collecting since he was 18 years old and kept on adding. Maybe 90% of them never got shot. A lot of them were just pieces for the collection. 'In the gun world, many collectors will have as many as they can afford. And then they gain value, so it's a good investment. An interest and a hobby.' Heuermann also stands accused of dumping the remains of the seven people he is charged with murdering across Long Island in a bloody spree between 1993 and 2011. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him and is currently awaiting trial. 'The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets' is available to watch now on Peacock.
