Tuesday's briefing: England set for open-top bus parade as Carabao Cup kicks off

Sarina Wiegman led the calls for further investment in the women's game to ensure her adopted country remains a 'trailblazer' for the sport.
England's celebrations continue on Tuesday with an open-top bus parade through central London.
And the Carabao Cup returns as Barnet host Newport on Tuesday night in the newly-created preliminary round.

The back-to-back European Championship winners were greeted by hundreds of fans at Southend Airport upon their arrival on Monday afternoon.
Captain Leah Williamson was first to step off the plane, which was branded with the word 'home' on it, with the trophy alongside head coach Wiegman.

Crowds lined the street to cheer the Lionesses as they arrived at Downing Street just before 7pm for a special reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.
Number 10 was decorated for the occasion with St George's flags draped over the windows and bunting along the railings.
After the England squad lined up for a picture outside Number 10 and took selfies inside, boss Wiegman addressed those in attendance.
'We need some more investment,' Wiegman insisted. 'We're not there yet. In England we're up there but England needs to stay the trailblazer, it needs to be the big example. The players first but also the FA, the clubs, the Government, the country, the fans – let's keep being the trailblazers.'
Pep Guardiola revealed his plans for the future as a recent interview with GQ Spain was published.
The Catalan has been at Manchester City since 2016 and ended speculation over his future last season when he signed a new contract to run for another two years.
However, Guardiola told GQ: 'I know that after this stage with City I'm going to stop, that's for sure.
'It's decided, more than decided. I don't know how long I'll stop for, a year, two years, three years, five, 10, 15, I don't know. But I will leave after this spell with City because I need to stop and focus on myself.'
Luis Diaz took another step towards a 75 million euro (£65m) move to Bayern Munich after he left Liverpool's training camp in Japan.
A deal between the two clubs was struck on Sunday and a day later Diaz was given permission to head to Germany for a medical.
Other transfers continue to be negotiated with Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore seemingly set for a season-long loan at Rangers, while Jan Bednarek ended his eight-year stay at Southampton after he agreed to join Porto.

The Lionesses' celebrations continue as they will go on an open-top bus parade through central London along The Mall and end at Buckingham Palace.
There is action elsewhere, though, as the Carabao Cup begins.
Barnet will host Newport on Tuesday night in the newly-created preliminary round – due to nine Premier League clubs being in Europe and therefore not involved in the first two rounds – with the winner set to host Millwall next week.

When is the next Women's World Cup and where is it being held?

England are celebrating becoming back-to-back European champions after beating Spain in the Euro 2025 final. The Lionesses have enjoyed an open-top bus parade in London, with thousands of supporters lining The Mall to welcome home their heroes. But already, attention is turning to the next tournament: the World Cup. The Lionesses came so close to winning the biggest trophy in football in 2023, losing in the final to Spain. Victory in Switzerland will give them renewed hope that they can go one better next time. Here's everything you need to know about the next Women's World Cup, including when and where it's taking place: The Women's World Cup is held every four years, with the next tournament to take place in 2027. It is currently slated to begin on June 24, with the final a month later on July 25. Brazil will host the 2027 Women's World Cup, the first time the tournament will be held in South America. They won the hosting rights after beating a joint-bid from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Eight venues in as many cities will be used, the largest of which is the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro with a capacity of 73,139. We also know the hosts for the following two editions of the Women's World Cup, with the competition heading to the USA and Mexico in 2031. Then in 2035, football comes home to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. While not official yet, the UK was the only country to submit a valid bid to host the tournament. 32 teams will battle it out for glory at the 2027 Women's World Cup. As per usual, there will be eight groups of four teams, with the top two in each group progressing to the knockouts. This will be the last Women's World Cup to use this format, with the competition expanding to 48 teams for 2031. Hosts Brazil are the only team guaranteed to be at the next Women's World Cup at the moment, with qualifying to be done in two phases. More Trending Each confederation will have their own qualifying process, with England hoping to be among the 11 teams from Europe to make it. The best ranked teams who don't qualify from each confederation will however get a second chance at glory through the inter-confederation play-offs, which will take place just a few months before the tournament kicks-off. The draw for UEFA qualifying will take place on November 4, with the matches to be played from February to December 2026. Shortly after England's triumph at the Euros, Ian Wright named his favourite to win the 2027 World Cup. 'USA are the favourites, they're the ones to beat. They're so good, they're so good!' the Arsenal legend said on ITV. 'If we get anywhere near them I'd be really happy because they're the ones, they're major favourites. 'You can't ignore France either, they seem to be really close. 'Spain as well. If they can get that centre-forward to finish it off then Spain will be a problem.' Legendary Lioness hero 'tipped for glittering TV career' after Euros 2025 win

This weekend, the mighty Lionesses made footballing history when they won the Euros for the second time. Yet while the UK is busy celebrating the England women's football team's impressive win over favourites Spain at penalties (Maybe they could give the men a few tips?), some people already have an eye on the team's future. Specifically, we do. Yes, the Metro ents team has been wondering which Lioness is most likely to swap the penalty box for the goggle box. So with that in mind, we contacted PaddyPower and asked them to give us the odds on which member of the team is most likely to break into TV. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lucy Bronze – England's most decorated player at club level and the most experienced member of the Lionesses – is the odds-on favourite to make the leap first. PaddyPower give the 33-year-old 5/4 odds of carving out a career on the small screen. 'Our traders make England legend Lucy Bronze the favourite to swap studs for studio lights,' a PaddyPower spokesperson told Metro. 'And given her glittering career, who would be against her taking her?' It's a good question, although we do wonder whether Lucy – who's considered one of the best players in the game (both men and women) – is ready to hang up her boots just yet. Here is the full list of odds PaddyPower gave Metro… Lucy Bronze – 5/4 Chloe Kelly – 5/2 Ella Toone – 11/2 Alessia Russo – 7/1 Leah Williamson – 8/1 Beth Mead – 12/1 Michelle Agyemang – 16/1 If Lucy's not the only player who could have a glittering career off the pitch. PaddyPower gave Chloe Kelly 5/2 odds, citing her ' iconic celebration at the Euros' as proof that she knows how to work a crowd.' Meanwhile, skipper Leah Williamson, who became a household name when she led the Lionesses to glory at the 2022 Euros, has been given 8/1 odds. Still, the big question is what show might we expect to see the Lionesses pop up on… besides Match of the Day, of course. More Trending Well, PaddyPower gave 4/1 odds on at least one of the teams appearing on Celebrity Traitors (Who wouldn't want to see the team go from killing it on the pitch, to literally killing in Claudia's castle?) while it's 9/2 that they'll go on Celeb SAS. Here is the full list of odds PaddyPower gave Metro… 4/1 for any Lioness to appear on Celeb Traitors 9/2 for any Lioness to appear on Celeb SAS 5/1 for any Lioness to appear on I'm A Celeb 5/1 1 for any Lioness to appear on Strictly 6/1 for any Lioness to appear on Dancing on Ice Interestingly, according to PaddyPower, it's more likely for one of the team to join Ant and Dec in the jungle for I'm A Celeb than it is for them to go on Strictly. Then again, with how gruelling the Strictly training regime supposedly is, perhaps the Lionesses are better off chomping on creepy crawlies than tangoing with Vito and his pals. Got a story? India cricket coach in furious row with Oval groundsman ahead of fifth Test vs England

England and India will conclude their fiery five-match Test series on Thursday and sparks are already flying after touring head coach Gautam Gambhir was filmed clashing with Oval groundsman Lee Fortis India's increasingly ill-tempered tour of England continued as head coach Gautam Gambhir engaged in an angry exchange with Surrey's head groundsman ahead of Thursday's deciding Test. While England decided to take a break two days out from the fifth and final match of a tetchy series, India were back in the nets at the Kia Oval as they attempt to salvage a 2-2 draw. ‌ But even with Ben Stokes and company absent, it did not take long for tensions to flare in south London. Gambhir, who can expect to face serious scrutiny over his position if England claim another victory, was seen sharing terse words with Lee Fortis, Surrey's lead curator. ‌ Gambhir, a 58-Test veteran, was caught on camera wagging his finger as Fortis towered over him, repeatedly stating: 'You can't tell us what to do' and 'you don't tell any of us what to do.' Gambhir can also be heard adding: 'You're just the groundsman, nothing beyond.' ‌ Fortis, who has been named as the ECB's grounds manager of the year for the last three seasons, is understood to have been keeping a protective eye on the square during India's practice with plenty of cricket still to be played on it once the international summer is over. Gambhir did not take kindly to his intervention. After walking away in conversation with India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, who appeared to take on the role of mediator, Fortis told Gambhir he may be forced to lodge complaint against him, drawing a response of: 'You can go and report to whoever you want.' ‌ The Board of Control for Cricket in India and Surrey have been contacted for comment. Whether India's frustrations included concerns over the Test pitch as well as their training provisions is not known but the Oval deck is expected to carry some live grass at the start of the game and provide greater pace and bounce than in the previous four matches. England's attack has struggled for cut through at times, not least in the last innings at Old Trafford, where they mustered just four wickets in 143 overs. India's rearguard ended in rancour, with Stokes annoyed that Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja declined his offer of an early handshake as they each pursued centuries. Both men reached three figures, but did so with some persistent sledging in their ears from England fielders. Relations between the teams had been relatively serene until a time-wasting row midway through the third Test at Lord's, where Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were treated to some X-rated words from India captain Shubman Gill. England responded by accusing Gill of running down the clock himself during his own innings and Mohammed Siraj was fined for his furious send-off of Duckett the next morning, though a brief shoulder to shoulder contact between the two was accepted as accidental.
