Travis Hunter drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 2 pick: Fantasy football fallout

Yahoo07-05-2025
Fantasy football managers released a collective sigh of relief when the Cleveland Browns pulled off a shocking trade, moving down from the No. 2 overall pick. They collected a king's ransom from Jacksonville, who selected the player considered the very best in the draft. Colorado's do-it-all superstar, Travis Hunter, is a member of the Jaguars.
Now, as much as we might be excited at the prospect of Travis Hunter being paired with Brian Thomas Jr., we do have to wonder if Jacksonville wants to use Hunter at corner for a substantial amount of snaps. If they do, that will undoubtedly cut into his fantasy football value, no matter how excited we are about him as a wideout.
Here's what new Jags head coach Liam Cohen had to say about Hunter's future: 'We'll have a plan right now of [him] primarily on offense with learning the defensive system and practicing on the defensive side of the ball as well throughout this offseason program,' Coen said. 'As we continue to grow, we have to be fluid throughout this whole process.'
Nonetheless, Yahoo Fantasy analyst Andy Behrens is excited about Hunter landing with the Jaguars — giving the pick an A for fantasy fit with this rationale:
Jacksonville entered the night with clear needs in the secondary and the receiving room, and they managed to address both in a single pick, via a mega-blockbuster trade. Phew. It's hard to not admire the move. Hunter is a massively talented receiving prospect, a tremendous fit for Liam Coen's offense.
Hunter is one of the most unique prospects the NFL has ever seen, the buzz around the Heisman winner never falling. He's even been compared to Shohei Ohtani in MLB as a two-way cheat code (which is probably unfair to both players).

Now, all of our collective attention will turn to how Hunter is deployed — whether as a full-time receiver, a wideout who receives a package of cornerback snaps, or if he'll really try to play both ways week in and week out. Nonetheless, let's remember just how different Hunter truly is, as told by Yahoo Fantasy analyst and Reception Perception creator, Matt Harmon:
Travis Hunter is in a tier of his own
Obviously, Travis Hunter is more than just a wide receiver. He's one of the best pure football players that's ever taken the college field. This should not be a hot take! He won the Heisman because he was the best cornerback in the nation and the best wideout in the nation. Hunter is also the top prospect at both positions in this class.
As just a wide receiver, Hunter is an absolutely ludicrous player with limitless potential, especially since he was rarely in offensive meetings at Colorado.
He separates with ease despite not being fully evolved as a route runner, has a great and varied set of release moves, wins contested catches, possesses A+ ball-tracking skills and rarely goes down on first contact with the ball in his hands.
Hunter is difficult to rank for fantasy football, dynasty or anything of the sort. We simply don't know what his allocation of snaps will be at the NFL level. Anyone putting their chest out with confidence on this is just exercising some performative bluster. What I know for sure is that he's one of my favorite wideouts I've ever evaluated and we should all know by now not to put limits on special football players. If you don't think Hunter has already shown himself to be a special football player, I'm sorry, but you're just a hater for contrarian's sake — simple as that. — Matt Harmon

Trevor Lawrence fantasy football preview 2025: Stats, season outlook, predictions

Rotoworld Staff, Trevor Lawrence 2025 Fantasy Preview 2024: Through Weeks 1-9 of last season Lawrence was QB15 on a fantasy points per game basis, which isn't awful on the surface, but when is the former number one overall pick really going to pop? In those nine games, Lawrence scored more than 15 fantasy points just three times, but furthermore, he didn't consistently connect with standout rookie Brian Thomas. Lawrence will be looking to have his best season yet in year five. What's Changed: The Jaguars moved mountains and bridges to select 2024 Biletnkoff winner Travis Hunter. The Jags also added offensive line to help keep upright Lawrence who only played 10 games last season. 2025 Outlook: This may be the 'this is it' season for Lawrence in Jacksonville as he's the only quarterback left drafted in the first round from the 2021 class who remains with his original teams. He will have great options in Hunter and Thomas Jr. that can help vault him into top 12 fantasy consideration, but it will be tough. Philadelphia Phillies lose second straight as Cincinnati Reds win series finale, 8-0

Miguel Andujar hit a grand slam and Hunter Greene pitched six sharp innings to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-0 on Wednesday night. Noelvi Marte had two hits and two RBIs for Cincinnati in the rubber game of the three-game series. Elly De La Cruz had two hits and scored two runs. Greene (5-3) allowed three hits, struck out six and walked none in his big league start since June 3. The ace right-hander had been sidelined by a groin injury. Philadelphia had won four in a row before dropping its last two games in Cincinnati. The NL East leaders finished with three hits. Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (11-4) was charged with four runs, three earned, and seven hits in six innings. Marte doubled home Austin Hays in the fourth, and Cincinnati added three more runs in the sixth. Hays doubled in De La Cruz, and Marte added an RBI single before coming home on throwing errors by left fielder Brandon Marsh and Sánchez. The start of the game was delayed about an hour due to inclement weather in the area. The Reds loaded the bases with two down in the seventh. Andujar, who was acquired from the Athletics at the trade deadline, fouled off two straight pitches with a 2-2 count before driving the sixth consecutive slider thrown by Jordan Romano over the wall in left field. Andujar has homered in back-to-back games and three of the last four overall. Jesús Luzardo (11-5, 4.20 ERA) is set to take the mound for the Phillies on Thursday against Brad Lord (3-6, 3.28 ERA) in the first of four games against Washington. Cincinnati's Nick Martinez (10-9, 4.49 ERA) is scheduled to pitch Friday in the opener of a three-game series against Milwaukee.

Pro Football Hall of Fame commemorating Cam Little's 70-yard field goal with game-worn Jaguars jersey, cleat

The 70-yard field goal Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little made last week during a preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers might have not have counted in the NFL record book, but it got his name in Canton. The Pro Football Hall of Fame is commemorating Little's big preseason feat with the cleat he used to accomplish it and the No. 39 jersey he wore while he authored the moment. "Alright, ship it off," Little said while folding his teal Jaguars jersey in a video the team posted to X Wednesday. He added, after packaging his cleat: "It's going to a piece of history, though." Little willed his 70-yard kick over the crossbar in Jacksonville's EverBank Stadium this past Saturday on the final play of the exhibition's first half. It cut the Steelers' lead to 14-9. But the score was an afterthought, and not just because it was a preseason game — mainly because Little just made a field goal that started with the number "7." The current NFL record is owned by former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, who made a 66-yarder against the Detroit Lions in 2021. Even though Little didn't technically rewrite it with his right-footed swing last weekend, he was swarmed by his teammates as if he did. Little bested Tucker's mark by 4 yards, sending a message to teams across the league that the Jaguars are a threat to grab three points from their own half of the field. Now in his second year with the team, Little already established himself as a reliable kicker in the league last season when he converted 27-of-29 field goals — including 5 of 6 from more than 50 yards out — and all 27 of his extra points. The Jaguars selected him in the sixth round of the 2024 draft out of Arkansas, where he earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2023. Little is still only 21 years old, and he's already responsible for a display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
