Illinois substitute teacher had sex with boy at 'playdates': cops
A perv substitute teacher had sex with an 11-year-old male student during 'play dates' at her house — then blamed the child, telling cops he made advances toward her first, Illinois authorities said. Disgraced sub Alley Bardfield, 34, also exchanged messages and explicit photos with the boy over SnapChat and sent him hundreds of dollars through CashApp over several months, a police statement alleges. The sixth-grade victim's mother discovered $700 in CashApp payments from Bardfield when she checked her son's phone after noticing his behavior had changed following a stayover at the teacher's house in Mount Zion, according to a sworn police statement obtained by WCIA. Illinois substitute teacher Alley Bardfield, 34, had sex with her 11-year-old student during 'playdates' at her house, cops say. Macon County Jail The mom confronted her son, who told her he had unprotected sex with Bardfield, the document said. Bardfield, who pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault this past week, had been the boy's teacher at the Hope Academy public school in Decatur at the time of the abuse between 2023 and 2024, the outlet said. The substitute teacher invited the boy to multiple 'play dates' at her home in 2023 and then twice in March 2024, during which time the pair had two sexual encounters, according to a lawsuit filed by the child's parents and seen by WCIA. The 34-year-old woman faces up to 40 years in prison. WANDTV In a police interview, the disgraced educator claimed the child had made sexual advances toward her first the night they had sex, WICS reported. She was fired by Decatur Public Schools when the abuse came to light in April last year. The pervert appeared in court in Macon County on Thursday for a disposition hearing at which she reached a partial plea deal with prosecutors. Bardfield faces up to 40 years in prison, although the exact sentence has not been agreed upon yet. Predatory criminal sexual assault is punishable by up to 60 years in prison, but the state agreed to cap its recommended sentence for Bardfield to 40 years as part of the plea deal. She will be sentenced Sept. 25.

Rantoul man found guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault
RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A jury deliberated for less than thirty minutes on Wednesday before delivering a guilty verdict to a 39-year-old Rantoul man accused of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said the jury trial took place July 29 and 30. Family, friends gather to grieve train crash victim, honor him with balloon release Evidence presented in court indicated that the sexual abuse occurred between October 2021 and February 2022 in Rantoul. The Rantoul Police Department began to investigate Joshua Nibbe in April of 2022 after the child's mother had reported that her child had been sexually abused by Nibbe. The child was 11 at the time of disclosure, but the abuse had been going on since the child was 10 years old. The State's Attorney's Office filed criminal charges on June 22, 2022. Nibbe was arrested on June 29, 2022 and has been in custody at the Champaign County Correctional Center since. Predatory criminal sexual assault is a class X felony and carries between 6 to 60 years in prison. Since Nibbe was found guilty on two counts, Rietz said he will serve his sentences one after the other, rather than at the same time. Everyday Heroes: Champaign 9-year-old saves great grandma's life A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 6, 2025 at 9 a.m. During the trial, lead Prosecutor Joel Fletcher presented evidence from investigators with the Rantoul Police Department and from Children's Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Mary Bunyard in support of the child's testimony. 3rd teen arrested in Champaign shooting that left a 14-year-old with ‘potentially life-threatening' injuries
CHAMPAIGN — A third teenager was arrested in connection to a Champaign shooting earlier this month that left a 14-year-old injured. Champaign Police responded to the area of Third Street and Beardsley Avenue around 5 p.m. on July 15 for a report of a shooting with injuries. Once on the scene, officers found a 14-year-old boy with multiple 'potentially life-threatening' gunshot wounds. PREVIOUSLY: Champaign shooting leaves one person with 'potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds' First responders provided medical aid until the victim could be brought to the hospital; he has since been released and continues to recover, police said. A 15-year-old and 16-year-old from Champaign were arrested on the night of the incident. On Thursday, July 31, police said a 17-year-old male from Champaign was arrested for his role in the incident. Because all three suspects are minors, the police department is unable to share their names. All three teenagers allegedly involved in the shooting are being held in the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center. Champaign County State's Attorney Julie Rietz said the 16-year-old and the 17-year-old teenagers are being tried as adults; they are both facing charges of aggravated battery with a firearm. The 16-year-old was detained following a detention hearing on July 18, 2025. He will appear in court again Aug. 18 for a preliminary hearing. The 17-year-old will appear in court on Friday for arraignment. The 15-year-old is also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. But, because of his age, he is charged in the juvenile court. The State's Attorneys Office has filed a petition to transfer his case to adult court, and the 15-year-old will appear in court for a status hearing on Aug. 1. Aggravated battery with a firearm is a Class X felony. Rietz said it is punishable by six to 30 years in prison. Police investigated after the shooting, and they learned that the victim was outside of an apartment complex when suspects approached and began to shoot. The victim was shot multiple times before the offenders fled. Police found evidence of gunfire, including multiple shell casings and damage to a building. Two guns were also recovered. Two Champaign teens arrested, accused of shooting 14-year-old Although three people have been arrested, the investigation continues.
