Danville man arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Danville man was arrested overnight after he was accused of shooting toward two people. Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of E. Fairchild St. for the report of an armed person, the Danville Police Department said in a release Tuesday morning. Dispatch informed the officers that a man fired a shot toward the caller. Coroner ID's Forsyth couple found dead on Monday When officers arrived, they talked with two victims who described the man and said he fired a handgun toward them. Officers were able to locate the man in a residence within the area, who they identified as 28-year-old Melvin Alexander. They later recovered a firearm belonging to him. Alexander was arrested and taken to the Public Safety Building and then booked in the Vermilion County Jail on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. 2 Romanians accused of EBT benefit theft held without bail

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bogdan Boceanu is the latest Romanian national to be linked to the ongoing investigation into EBT benefits stolen in Kern County, and appeared in court Thursday morning with Alberto-Ionel Baran. Alberto-Ionel Baran is one of the three Romanians to first be named by the District Attorney for this case. Boceanu was the first one not allowed bail and Thursday was his review hearing. The no bail order was kept in place. Baran had been held on a $150,000 bail, but Thursday he was put under no bail. Coroner ID's man shot, killed by deputies at Virginia Avenue Park This order was requested by prosecutors, who said they believe illegal funds might have been used to post bail. Norbert Karaba posted bail and the other two Romanians, Fernando Stantu and Mari-Mar Milica, did not show up to court and have outstanding warrants for their arrests. Decatur Fire Chief announces retirement

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Decatur Fire Chief will retire exactly 30 years after starting his career with the department. On Monday, the City announced that Decatur Fire Chief Jeff Abbott will retire March 15. He first joined the department in 1995. In 1999, he rose in the ranks to become Lieutenant and was promoted to Fire Captain in 2006. The next year, Abbott was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief and in 2014, he was appointed to Fire Chief. UPDATE: Coroner ID's pedestrian killed in Coles Co. crash 'Jeff has 30 years of dedicated service with the majority being in a leadership position and he is going to be tough to replace,' Decatur City Manager Tim Gleason said. 'I wish him all the best in this next chapter of life.' According to the City of Decatur, some of Abbott's greatest accomplishments include the launch of Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD), adding Mobile Data Computers (MDCS) in the fire apparatus, the building of three new fire stations and the remodeling of four stations. Abbott was also recognized by the City for his efforts in leading cancer prevention efforts for firefighters. URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) – Urbana police say two people are dead after a home invasion and shooting in Urbana Saturday evening. Officials say that police initially responded to the 900 block of Lanore Drive before 8:00 p.m. for a report of a shooting with injuries. That's just south of the Brookens Administrative Center near the intersection of Lanore and Washington. Once on scene, officers found a 7-year-old child who was struck by gunfire. That child was then immediately transported to the hospital, later succumbing to their wounds. After the child was transported to the hospital, a 43-year-old Urbana man was also found near the scene with gunshot wounds. That adult was also transported to the hospital where he also succumbed to his wounds. The identities of both individuals are being withheld pending family notifications. This comes after an 18-year-old was also killed in Urbana on Friday night in a separate shooting. UPDATE: Coroner ID's 18-year-old killed in Friday night Urbana shooting Police say that the initial investigation shows that the shooting was derived from a home invasion, but additional information was not available regarding those circumstances. This is an ongoing investigation. The Criminal Investigations Division is handling it now. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may help with their investigation. Any residents or businesses in the nearby area with any exterior surveillance camera systems are encouraged to notify the Urbana Police Department.
