The Israeli military said Monday (June 23) it struck six Iranian airbases across the country in a coordinated assault that destroyed 15 fighter jets and attack helicopters, as tensions between the two regional adversaries continued to escalate.
The strikes, conducted by remotely piloted aircraft, targeted airports located in Tabriz, Tehran-Mehrabad, Mashhad, Hamedan, Dezful, and Shahid Bakhtiari. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the operation focused on runways, underground hangars, a refuelling aircraft, and specific Iranian Air Force assets, including F-14 and F-5 fighter jets and AH-1 attack helicopters.

Air superiority effort
The IDF said the objective of the attacks was to impair Iran's ability to challenge Israeli aircraft conducting missions over Iranian territory. 'The destroyed aircraft were intended for use against IAF jets in order to prevent strikes within Iranian territory,' the military said in a statement.
The strikes were aimed at neutralizing Tehran's operational air force capabilities by hitting critical infrastructure such as runways and maintenance facilities, including those used to refuel and shelter aircraft.
Widening conflict
The strikes come amid an intensifying military confrontation between Israel and Iran, which has included several days of aerial assaults. Iran has not yet issued a formal statement responding to the latest attacks.
Israel has vowed to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and has launched repeated strikes in Syria and elsewhere targeting Iranian proxies and military infrastructure. This latest escalation suggests a widening of that campaign directly into Iranian territory.
The Israeli military released satellite images showing damage to runways and airfields, including Tehran's Mehrabad airport, where runways were visibly cratered.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, and the full extent of damage on the ground remains unclear. Iranian officials have yet to confirm or deny the extent of the Israeli strikes.
While Israel has acknowledged its involvement, it has not indicated whether further attacks are planned.

Flamingo, Ukraine's 3,000km-range game changer missile which can hit deep inside Russia enters production as Zelensky prepares to meet Trump

In a development timed closely with international political events, Ukraine quietly released the first images of its new long-range cruise missile , the " Flamingo ," right after high-profile talks between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump and just ahead of a planned meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump. This carefully timed unveiling could be interpreted as a strategic message in the diplomatic theater surrounding the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. On August 14, 2025, Ukrainian photographer Efrem Lukatsky, working with the Associated Press, captured and published the first documented images of the missile. The photographs were taken inside a facility belonging to the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point, reportedly at an undisclosed location within Ukraine. Lukatsky states that this missile has already entered serial (mass) production, marking a notable step forward in Ukraine's domestic missile development efforts. Technical specifications While Ukrainian authorities have not released official technical details, reliable reporting and visual analysis indicate that the Flamingo missile is designed for strategic strikes at ranges of up to 3,000km. These features were cross-referenced and appear to align closely with the FP-5 cruise missile earlier showcased by the UK-based Milanion Group at the IDEX-2025 defense exhibition. Analysts draw parallels based on both appearance and reported capabilities. The FP-5 features a 1,000-kilogram warhead, a maximum range of 3,000 kilometers, and a launch weight of around six tons. It has a six-meter wingspan, can reach speeds up to 900 kilometers per hour, and uses a sophisticated combined guidance system, including satellite navigation resistant to electronic warfare. Experts believe the Flamingo may have similar parameters, though formal confirmation from Ukrainian sources is still pending. Live Events Strategic context Ukraine has invested heavily in missile technology amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia. Previous successes included the Neptune anti-ship missile—in service since 2020 and credited with the sinking of the Russian cruiser Moskva in April 2022—and the Grim-2 (Hrim-2) tactical ballistic missile with a 500km range. The Flamingo, with its 3,000km strike capability, stands to dramatically enhance Ukraine's ability to target assets deep inside adversary territory, including the entirety of western Russia and beyond. The Flamingo's emergence demonstrates not only Ukraine's ability to innovate domestically under wartime conditions, but also the indirect impact of Western technology transfer and industrial collaboration. The similarity to Milanion Group's FP-5 underscores international cooperation, even when states such as Germany and others decline to directly supply long-range missiles.

Israel airdrops 161 food aid packages in Gaza with support from 9 countries

An airdrop of 161 food aid packages for residents of Gaza was carried out by the Israel Defence Forces on Sunday in coordination with the UAE, Jordan, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark and Indonesia. In a post on X, the IDF wrote, "9 Countries Coordinated Humanitarian Airdrop: An airdrop of 161 food aid packages for the residents of Gaza was conducted by the IDF in coordination with the UAE, Jordan, Germany, Belgium, France and Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark and Indonesia, led by Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip." Meanwhile, as per Al Jazeera, Israel's attacks on Gaza City is forcing tens of thousands of starving Palestinians to flee again. The Gaza City neighbourhoods of Zeitoun, Sabra, Remal and Tuffah have particularly borne the brunt of the Israeli bombardments in recent days as a spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Israel's plans to forcibly displace Palestinians to southern Gaza would increase their suffering. Thousands of families have fled Zeitoun, where days of continuous strikes have left the neighbourhood devastated. At least seven people were killed on Sunday when an Israeli air strike hit al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, as per Al Jazeera. Also on Sunday, the Israeli military said tents and equipment to erect shelters will be provided to the Palestinians who have been displaced multiple times in 22 months of war, which has been called an act of genocide by multiple rights organisations. On Sunday, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned that Gaza is facing a "man-made famine" and urged a return to a UN-led distribution system, as quoted by Al Jazeera. "We are very, very close to losing our collective humanity," Juliette Touma, the agency's communications director, said in a post on X. She said the crisis had been fuelled by "deliberate attempts to replace the UN-coordinated humanitarian system through the politically motivated 'GHF,'" as reported by Al Jazeera. 'Now Or Never': 500,000 Protesters Shock Netanyahu Over No Hostage Deal; Tel Aviv Erupts In Anger

Half a million protesters gathered in Tel Aviv last night, demanding an immediate deal for the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The Hostage Families Forum said almost 500,000 people took part in the protest. The forum also estimated that some 1 million people took part in dozens of protests across the country throughout the day. Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the protest, saying, "What's happening inside the country is playing against us." Watch this video to know more.
