Buckeyes Get Great News From Highly Coveted Star QB

Yahoo22-05-2025

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been searching for a quarterback in the 2026 class for quite some time. It's possible that search is approaching a conclusion.
Four-star quarterback Luke Fahey told On3's Alex Gleitman that he will see the Buckeyes on an official visit in June.

Fahey previously described Ohio State as "a dream school" and did again Wednesday.
'The relationship has been going well,' Fahey said. 'I'm taking my official visit there June 20-22. That's one of my dream schools. To be able to go see it is crazy.'
The Buckeyes have yet to make the quarterback an offer, but signs indicate there's chemistry between Fahey and Ohio State.
'They want to see me and meet me in person before any of that (offering) happens, is what I was told,' said Fahey. 'They would definitely be a contender (if they offered).'

Gleitman suggested Wednesday that the Stanford Cardinal and Indiana Hoosiers are Ohio State's biggest competition for Fahey.

The quarterback has also received offers from at least 20 other schools, including the Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles and Syracuse Orange.
The Buckeyes are entering Memorial Day weekend with the No. 3-ranked 2026 recruiting class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. But Ohio State doesn't have a quarterback committed in the class.
Ohio State has pursued 2026 top 10 quarterback prospect Bowe Bentley, but pundits have predicted Bentley to commit to the LSU Tigers.
Based on the 247 Sports composite rankings, Fahey is the No. 23 quarterback and No. 355 overall recruit in the 2026 class.

Austin Wells' 5 RBIs, Aaron Judge's 469-foot homer power Yankees to rout of Royals

Austin Wells hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs, Aaron Judge hit the third-longest homer in the majors this season, and the New York Yankees routed the Kansas City Royals 10-2 on Tuesday night. Max Fried (9-1) bounced back from his first loss of the season, pitching seven innings of two-run ball for New York. Wells homered on a full-count pitch from Noah Cameron (2-2) with two outs in the fourth inning, then added a two-run double in the sixth after a 10-pitch duel with Taylor Clarke. He matched his career high for RBIs in a game. Judge's two-run homer in the first had an exit velocity of 117.9 mph and traveled 469 feet, landing on the roof of the Royals Hall of Fame in left field. Only the Angels' Mike Trout and Logan O'Hoppe have hit longer home runs this season. Judge added a bloop RBI single in the sixth inning, when the Yankees put the game away with five more runs off the Kansas City bullpen. Cody Bellinger drove in one of them with the 1,000th hit of his career. Cameron wound up allowing six runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. It was the first time in the left-hander's first six big league starts that he allowed more than one run or failed to make it through six innings. Jac Caglianone singled and had an RBI groundout in his home debut for Kansas City. Jonathan India homered in the sixth, and Tyler Tolbert singled in the eighth for his first big league hit. KEY MOMENT Judge's homer sent a shock through a star-studded crowd. Among those at Kauffman Stadium were Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Hall of Famers George Brett and Reggie Jackson, and actor and noted Yankees fan Alfonso Ribeiro. KEY STAT Judge has reached safely in 61 of 65 games this season, including every game the Yankees have played on the road. UP NEXT RHP Clarke Schmidt (2-3, 4.04 ERA) starts Tuesday night for New York. LHP Kris Bubic (5-3, 1.43 ERA) gets the nod for Kansas City.

Ohio State announces the creation of consolidated NIL initiative

Ohio State announces the creation of consolidated NIL initiative With the approval of the House Settlement for distributions and allowance of direct student-athlete pay, things will continue to change, most notably with Name, Image and Likeness (NIL). The days of large, somewhat vague NIL deals are gone, with anything over $600 needing to be approved by an NCAA Clearinghouse. To meet the demands of a changing landscape of NIL, Ohio State has announced the creation of the "Buckeye Sports Group." In partnership with Learfield, the OSU Department of Athletics has created the initiative to "support, streamline and enhance Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for Ohio State student-athletes," the university announced on Tuesday. 'Ohio State has always been a leader in college athletics, and this initiative is another step forward to build upon our strong NIL foundation,' said Carey Hoyt, Ohio State's Deputy Director of Athletics in a statement. 'By combining the power of our athletic brand with Learfield's expansive network, we are creating an innovative, full-service approach to NIL that directly benefits our student-athletes.' Ohio State will work with Learfield Impact, the company's industry-leading NIL services, to dedicate on-campus leadership professionals who will prioritize Buckeye student-athlete brand engagement and content-driven campaigns. Buckeye Sports Group (BSG) will have access to Learfield's Compass NIL technology broker deals and gather insights into student-athlete interests so that they can build brand connections. Buckeye Sports Group will focus on three comprehensive strategies to move NIL efforts forward: deal facilitation and management, content creation and storytelling, and support services. NIL Deal Facilitation & Management o Negotiating and securing brand partnerships locally, regionally, and nationally for student-athletes. o Overseeing contract preparation and fair market value assessments. o Utilizing analytics to track NIL performance and return on investment. Content Creation & Student-Athlete Storytelling, powered by Learfield Studios o Creating athlete-driven digital content, including social media campaigns, video series and podcasts. o Leveraging Learfield's Fanbase data and digital expertise to optimize distribution across social media and digital channels. o Providing marketing resources for brand collaborations to maximize results, including the use of Ohio State marks, logos and access to campus facilities. Athlete Support & Services o Providing financial literacy and tax support through partnerships with industry experts. o Offering branding and social media growth training to help athletes build their personal brands. o Connecting student-athletes with brand partners to provide business experience, micro-internships and build professional networking relationships with companies. With the new approach to NIL, Buckeye Sports Group will also work to consolidate current collectives already in place under one vision and strategy so that all efforts are working together under the same parameters and in concert, something that will be paramount to forging ahead in yet another new frontier in college athletics. We are committed to making Ohio State the premier destination for NIL success,' Hoyt added. 'With Buckeye Sports Group, we're building a model that will serve as the new standard for college athletics.'
