Turkey, Italy and Libya held talks in Istanbul - Region
Images from what the Turkish presidency called "Turkey-Italy-Libya cooperation summit" at Erdogan's Istanbul office showed leaders gathered around a table. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also attended the talks.
At the meeting, Erdogan said it was important to cooperate in addressing the challenges faced by the Mediterranean basin, including irregular migration movements, according to his office.
He also said long-term and sustainable solutions "are needed to eliminate the root causes of irregular migration".
Libya has been gripped by unrest since the 2011 overthrow and killing of longtime ruler Moamer Kadhafi in a NATO-backed uprising.
The country is now divided between the UN-recognized government in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east, aligned with military commander Khalifa Haftar.
It has become a hub for tens of thousands of migrants trying to reach Europe, risking their lives at sea.
At the Istanbul talks, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussed a series of options to combat international criminal networks of human traffickers, better prevent irregular movements, and support Libya in managing the migratory pressure it is under, according to a statement from her office.
Erdogan's government maintains close ties with Libya's UN-backed government especially on defence and energy issues, as does Italy, the country's former colonial ruler and the main destination for migrant boats leaving Libyan shores.
The Turkish leader also raised the "humanitarian tragedy" in Gaza during the Istanbul talks, the presidency said.
Israel has been waging war on Gaza for nearly 22 months and has enforced a five-month blockade since March, which has pushed the territory's 2.3 million people into famine.
Erdogan said "the international community bears great responsibility for establishing an immediate ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid to the region as soon as possible."

The UN says Rwanda-backed rebels killed over 300 civilians in Congo in the past month - Africa
Rwanda-backed rebels killed at least 319 people over the past month in eastern Congo, the U.N. human rights chief said Wednesday, describing the toll as one of the largest documented in such attacks since the M23 rebels resurfaced in 2022. Citing firsthand accounts, U.N. human rights chief Volker Türk said in a statement that the rebels, backed by members of the Rwandan Defence Force, targeted four villages in North Kivu province's Rutshuru territory between July 9 and July 21. The continuing violence could threaten Qatar-led efforts to get Congo and the rebels to sign a permanent peace deal by the goal of Aug. 18. One of the deal's conditions is the protection of civilians and safe return of millions of people displaced by the conflict. There was no immediate comment from M23 or the Rwandan government. The M23 early this year seized two key cities in eastern Congo in a major escalation, with the help of neighbouring Rwandan forces. Congo has long been wracked by deadly conflict in its mineral-rich east, with more than 100 armed groups. The two sides, on July 19, signed a declaration of principles in Qatar to end the fighting and commit to a comprehensive peace agreement that would include the restoration of state authorities in key eastern cities controlled by the insurgents. The new U.N. statement said deadly attacks occurred in the days following that signing. 'I am appalled by the attacks on civilians by the M23 and other armed groups" despite the declaration, the U.N. human rights chief said, calling for an immediate end to attacks on civilians. Only 1.5% of Gaza farmland usable: FAO - War on Gaza
Only 1.5 per cent of Gaza's farmland is accessible and undamaged -- less than a square mile -- according to the latest satellite survey published Wednesday by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation, which warned the Palestinian territory was on "the brink of a full-scale famine". In its previous survey, published at the end of May, the FAO had indicated that less than five per cent of Gaza farmland was both accessible and undamaged, based on data from the UN Satellite Centre. The survey, which dates from July 28, found that 8.6 per cent of Gaza's farmland was accessible, but only 1.5 per cent, or 2.3 square kilometres (less than one square mile) was both accessible and usable. An additional 12.4 per cent of farmland is undamaged, but not accessible. An overwhelming majority of Gaza's farmland -- 86.1 per cent -- is damaged, the survey found. "Gaza is now on the brink of a full-scale famine," the FAO's director-general Qu Dongyu said in a statement. "People are starving not because food is unavailable, but because access is blocked, local agrifood systems have collapsed, and families can no longer sustain even the most basic livelihoods," he added. Qu called for safe and sustained humanitarian access to restore local food production and avoid a further loss of life. "The right to food is a basic human right," he said. Before the conflict, agriculture accounted for around 10 per cent of the Gaza Strip's economy. The FAO estimated that more than 560,000 people, or a quarter of the population, were at least partially supported by agriculture and fishing. The Israeli government is under growing pressure to bring the war in Gaza to an end, with concern mounting after the United Nations warned that famine was unfolding in the territory of more than two million Palestinians. The Israeli war on Gaza, which began in October 2023, has killed at least 61,158 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to figures from the Gaza health ministry, which are considered reliable by the United Nations. Abou El-Enein Foundation Supports Gaza with Over 15K Tons of Humanitarian Supplies
Nada Mustafa Abou El-Enein Foundation for Social and Cultural Activities participated in the 11th humanitarian convoy launched by the National Alliance for Civil Development Work from Rafah crossing border, carrying food, relief, and medical aid to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. This participation comes as a continuation of the foundation's efforts since the onset of the aggression on Gaza, during which it has contributed to successive convoys organized by the Alliance.
