Michael Harris II and Jurickson Profar each hit a two-run homer. Ozzie Albies went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and Matt Olson had four hits for the Braves, who trailed 10-4 in the seventh.

Baldwin's go-ahead hit dropped just in front of diving right fielder Mike Tauchman, who short-hopped the ball with his glove.

Tiger Woods to lead group that could reshape the PGA Tour's competitive model
ATLANTA — Tiger Woods is a major player in golf again, this time without clubs. He was appointed Wednesday to chair a new committee charged with taking a fresh look at the competitive model for how the PGA Tour runs its tournaments. Article content Brian Rolapp, three weeks into his role as the tour's first CEO, announced the nine-member 'Future Competition Committee' and said it would have a clean sheet to consider changes that uphold traditions without being tied to them. Article content Article content 'This is about shaping the next era of the PGA Tour,' Woods said in a social media post. Article content Rolapp didn't have details on several issues he faces as he takes over for Commissioner Jay Monahan, including the future of a sport that has been splintered by Saudi money that created the rival LIV Golf League and lured away a number of top players. Article content The PGA Tour's negotiations with the Public Investment Fund have stalled, and Rolapp did not make that sound as if it were a top priority when asked about the fans' desire to see all the best players together more often. Article content 'I'm going to focus on what I can control,' Rolapp said. 'I would offer to you that the best collection of golfers in the world are on the PGA Tour. I think there's a bunch of metrics that demonstrate that, from rankings to viewership to whatever you want to pick. I'm going to lean into that and strengthen that. Article content 'I will also say that to the extent we can do anything that's going to further strengthen the PGA Tour, we'll do that,' he said. 'And I'm interested in exploring whatever strengthens the PGA Tour.' Article content Woods, who has played only 10 times on the PGA Tour since his February 2021 car crash and has been out all of this year with a ruptured Achilles tendon, already serves on the PGA Tour board without a term limit. Article content Now he will lead five players from the board — Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, Camilo Villegas, Maverick McNealy and Keith Mitchell — along with three from the business side. That includes baseball executive Theo Epstein. Article content Rolapp is not trying to reinvent a sport that held its first championship in 1860. He said among his early observations, after two decades at the NFL, was the strength and momentum of the PGA Tour. Article content 'My key takeaway when you boil all this down is that the strength of the PGA Tour is strong, but there's much more we need to do, much more we need to change for the benefit of fans, players and our partners,' he said. Article content He said the committee would be guided by parity (he conceded golf already has that), scarcity and simplicity. Article content The tour released a 2026 schedule on Tuesday that adds another $20 million signature event, this one to Trump National Doral, as part of a 35-event schedule from January through August. Rolapp said the simplicity was mostly about connecting the regular season to the postseason.

Rory McIlroy backs 'clean slate' season finale format change
MIAMI — Rory McIlroy is backing the format change that will see all 30 players tee off as equals as they battle for the FedEx Cup in the PGA Tour's Tour Championship starting on Thursday. Article content A $10-million winner's cheque will be on offer at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the climax of the season-ending playoff series, with world number one Scottie Scheffler starting as the man to beat. Article content Article content Article content But unlike previous seasons, Scheffler will be starting on even par with the rest of the field following the decision to scrap the controversial 'starting strokes' format. Article content Last year, Scheffler started the Tour Championship with a two-shot advantage at 10 under to reflect his season-long dominance of the FedEx standings. Article content That system was eliminated for the 2025 tournament however following feedback from fans, with tour officials stating in May that a conventional 72-hole strokeplay tournament offered the 'most straightforward and engaging format'. Article content Masters champion McIlroy said Tuesday he backs the move to switch formats. Article content 'It has a different feel,' McIlroy said. 'Any one of the 30 has a chance to win the FedExCup this year, which is obviously a lot different than it's been in previous years. Article content 'It's a clean slate for everyone, and it's a great opportunity for one of the guys that maybe wasn't a huge part of the season to put their hand up and have a chance to win the big prize at the end of the year. Article content Article content 'It's also a great opportunity for some of the guys that have had great years to sort of rubber stamp the season a little bit and end on a really, really positive note. I think there's still a lot to play for this week.' Article content McIlroy said he had been in a minority who 'didn't hate' the starting strokes format. Article content 'I thought that the player that played the best during the course of the season should have had an advantage coming in here,' he said. Article content 'But the majority of people just didn't like the starting strokes.' Article content McIlroy, who served on the PGA Tour's Player Advisory Council (PAC) which had helped implement the format changes, said switching to a match play format had been considered but discarded. Article content 'Match play was on the table, and that got canned for this year,' McIlroy said. Article content 'I think it's just hard for the players to reconcile that we play stroke play for every week of the year but then the season-ending tournament is going to be decided by match play.' Article content McIlroy's Ryder Cup team-mate, England's Tommy Fleetwood, also approves of the format switch. Article content
