Maryland State Police: Driver arrested for backing into police cruiser, fleeing

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. () — A man was charged on Monday after he struck a police car and drove off overnight, the Maryland State Police (MSP) said.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on May 12, MSP said a trooper was in his unmarked patrol vehicle along Route 50, working an assignment for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
While there, the driver of a Chevy Silverado pulled in front of the trooper.
For reasons not yet known to police, the trooper said the driver reversed, struck the front end of his cruiser and then fled the scene.

The trooper was not hurt.
The driver — later identified as 27-year-old Ryan Daniel Heim — was brought to a stop just minutes later after the Anne Arundel County Police Department deployed stop sticks in the area of Olivia Lane and Glenns Road in Severna Park.
After his arrest, MSP noted that a loaded handgun was recovered from his vehicle.
Heim was charged with second-degree assault, transportation of handgun on person, hit and run, fleeing and eluding and other related charges.

STANTON, Mich. (WOOD) — Troopers are asking the public for help searching for an 81-year-old man with dementia. Francis Joseph Smith was last seen leaving his Stanton home around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday to go to an appointment but he did not return home, according to Michigan State Police. Smith stands 5 feet, 8 inches and weighs about 238 pounds. He has short gray hair and blue eyes and was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans, black tennis shoes and possibly a blue and green button-up flannel, according to MSP. He is driving a dark blue 2015 Nissan Rogue with Michigan license plate CGD928. Smith has dementia and needs medication he does not have, troopers said. (WOOD) — A northern Michigan woman has been arrested after a Michigan State Police dog followed her trail for 5 miles. responded to a home invasion complaint around 8 a.m. Tuesday in Grand Traverse County. They say surveillance video showed a woman enter the home and leave with multiple items. An MSP trooper and Ox, a K-9, responded and picked up a suspect's trail. Ox followed it, including through some stretches of thick vegetation, before finally catching up to the suspect. She was arrested and lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail on multiple charges.
