Missing woman Kelsey Pittman found ALIVE nine months after vanishing in brutal remote area
To the relief of loved ones, missing Kelsey Pittman has been found, nine months after vanishing near the unforgiving Death Valley National Park, on the border of California and Nevada.
The North Carolina woman was first reported missing by family members back in November 2024. This, the Inyo County Sheriff's Office (ICSO) stated back in May, was when the 33-year-old had contact with law enforcement in Utah.
On February 9, Kelsey's 2009 Chevrolet HHR was discovered in a remote area known as 'The Pads or Slab City", located off Highway 190. Situated just outside the boundaries of the famously hot National Park, known for its harsh desert conditions, this lonely spot is 'commonly used by campers during the winter months."
With a clearer indication of Kelsey's potential whereabouts, officers conducted a "thorough search of both the vehicle and the surrounding area". However, Kelsey was nowhere to be found.

This, police say, "led to the initiation of an extensive missing person investigation and search effort". According to a statement: "Between February and June 2025, ICSO coordinated with multiple law enforcement agencies, drone teams, cadaver dog handlers, and volunteer search and rescue crews. Despite exhaustive ground and aerial searches, no additional physical evidence was found at the site."
Thankfully, this week, a miracle occurred. On Tuesday, July 22, ICSO announced that Kelsey had been found alive after many months of concern for her welfare. A statement read: "The Inyo County Sheriff's Office is relieved to announce that Kelsey Pittman has been located alive in the state of Colorado."
The statement continued: "Out of respect for her privacy and that of her family, no further details will be released."
In the US, more than 600,000 individuals are reported missing every single year, as per the US Department of Justice. Thankfully, as per the World Population Review, the "vast majority of missing persons cases are quickly resolved".
However, cases like Kelsey's are relatively unusual given the amount of time that passed between her reported disappearance and subsequent discovery. Hopes of finding a missing person dwindle as time goes on, particularly in cases where the individual is vulnerable.
Such occurrences are not unheard of, though, giving hope to families around the world still waiting for news of long vanished loved ones. Such cases include the story of Brenda Heist, a mum of two from Pennsylvania who vanished in 2002 amid the upheaval of a divorce, BBC News previously reported.
As time went on, loved ones feared the worst, and in 2010, her estranged husband had Brenda declared legally dead and remarried. In 2013, Brenda resurfaced, having spent 11 years living as a vagrant.
In one particularly extraordinary case, Australian dad Gabriel Nagy vanished in 1987 and wasn't seen for 23 long years. SBS News reports that, just two weeks before Gabriel was to be declared legally dead, a Medicare records check led investigators straight to him. The married father of two had suffered amnesia following a head injury, and had no clue he even had a family.

And the Foreign Office said, until recent weeks, it couldn't confirm their whereabouts. Now, it's thought the couple have been cruelly separated and moved from a security detention facility in Kerman, the Daily Mail reports. Lindsay Foreman was recently transferred to Qarchak Prison, meanwhile her husband Craig was moved to Greater Tehran Prison, according to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights. The two prisons are over 20 miles from one another. The charity also claimed in a statement that during their detention in Kerman, the Brits were "'subjected to severe pressure and torture aimed at extracting forced confessions". It added how their family has become understandably increasingly concerned and their well-being - especially considering the recent heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. FCDO guidance explicitly warns against all travel to the country, cautioning that British citizens could be arrested simply for their nationality. Despite this, the pair acknowledged the extreme risk in a social media post on December 30. The former soldier sparked an outcry after claiming that first, second and third generation immigrants should be barred from "top tier government positions". Middleton - who gave a speech at last year's Reform conference and has been linked with a mayoral run for the party - was pictured smiling with Mr Farage and treasurer Nick Candy in Washington DC ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration in January. The ex-SAS: Who Dares Wins host has said he will stand to be London mayor - and claimed to be "very much aligned" with Reform. The TV host was a controversial figure long before his appearance at the event in Birmingham. He was dropped by Channel 4 in March 2021 after tweeting about the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. He moved to Dubai, telling GB News last year that people in the UK are "just stuck in a rut". In 2012 he body-slammed PC Christopher Brooksbank outside a nightclub and assaulted PC Katherine Alison. He was given a 14-month jail sentence the following year. He told The Mirror in 2015: "I was shocked by how I acted. I'm very ashamed of it, hence why I've put it behind me." And he said he had written to both officers to apologise. But he now claims he "never laid a finger on a woman". In March Middleton was banned from being a company director after his firm Sway and Starting failed to pay over £1million in tax. The Insolvency Service said he and wife Emilie were "taking millions of pounds out of" the company when they should have been paying tax. Sway and Starting, which provided media representation services, went into liquidation in 2022. At the time it owed £300,000 in VAT and £800,000 in corporation tax.

Authorities confirmed to The Sun that the woman is British national identified as Michele Ann Joy Bourda. They believe her life could be in danger. Greece's Hellenic Coast Guard has confirmed to The Sun that a search operation via sea continues. The woman was last seen wearing a two-piece beaded swimsuit, yellow beach shoes, and red sunglasses. The Sun has approached the UK Foreign Office for a comment. It comes after another Brit tourist vanished from a Greek holiday island last month after his car was found abandoned. Cops have now launched a search and rescue operation to find the Brit man, 60, who was last seen in the Tristomo village of Karpathos. It is understood that the Brit was staying in a rented room in Olympos, Karpathos, which is near Rhodes island. He had also rented a car for his transportation, which authorities found parked and locked in the Korfasia area of Avlonas, local media reports. According to security sources, a team of eight police officers with four vehicles, firefighters and members of the Greek coast guard have launched an investigation. The Brit's landlord informed authorities that she last spoke to him on the morning of June 27. It comes after a Brit tourist tragically died while on a sun lounger in a Greek paradise island. The 73-year-old man was reportedly found by fellow holidaymakers in Agia Paraskevi, Skiathos, last week. Emergency services were then called after the lifeguard attempted to perform first aid on the Brit. A local doctor tried to revive the man for 40 minutes - but unfortunately was unable to do so. Earlier this month, another Brit tourist died at a popular Greek island. The 68-year-old holidaymaker was found dead after he reportedly went swimming and lost consciousness on the island of Rhodes, local media reported. Officers from the Central Port Authority of Rhodes rushed to the scene of the incident at the popular tourist spot of Lindos.
