Pair of incoming UNC basketball transfers ranked in ESPN Top 100 How good can Veesaar and Evans be for UNC this coming basketball season?
The North Carolina Tar Heels are being a lot more aggressive in the college basketball transfer portal this offseason, already nabbing two starters and a possible third.
UNC's most impactful portal addition is 7-foot center Henri Veesaar, who brings some much-needed height to a program that lacked it last year. North Carolina also added 6'6" shooting guard Jonathan Powell, plus its projected starting point guard in Kyan Evans.
The Tar Heels lost a couple guys to the portal, most notably guards Ian Jackson and Elliot Cadeau, the latter of whom committed to Michigan. I'll miss the star guard duo, but I'm also confident UNC is bringing in winning pieces to help improve itself.
In ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Borzello's Top 100 transfer portal player rankings, Veesaar landed at 14th and Evans slotted in at 85th.
Check out what Borzello had to say about Veesaar, the Arizona transfer who nearly led his former team to a Sweet 16 upset of Duke.
"Veesaar's emergence, over the second half of the season, was a key factor in Arizona turning things around after a slow start. He finished the season averaging 9.4 points and 5.0 rebounds, but hit double-figures in seven of eight games in the month of February."
Now look at what Borzello said about Evans, who started in Colorado State's backcourt alongside Nique Clifford during a near-run to the Sweet 16.
"Evans was terrific in the NCAA tournament against Memphis, going for 23 points and four assists in the first-round win. He was a key factor in Colorado State's surge toward the end of the season, averaging 10.6 points and 3.1 assists while shooting 44.6% from 3."
Jackson is ranked ninth on Borzello's portal list, while Cadeau is 33rd. Borzello praises Jackson as an explosive scorer, plus Cadeau as a gifted passer.

Who won the Bryce Huff trade between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Francisco 49ers agreed on a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to bring edge rusher Bryce Huff to the Bay Area in exchange for what was initially reported as a "mid-round" draft pick. Advertisement We now officially know the exchange included a conditional fifth-round pick that could turn into a fourth based on Huff's performance with the 49ers. Judging by both teams' situations, you could argue that they both came away winners here. San Francisco was facing a mass exodus of quality defensive players this offseason and needed help on the edge opposite of Nick Bosa. For Philadelphia, they were clearly not in favor of keeping Huff after a letdown season resulted in him being a healthy scratch in the Eagles' Super Bowl win. What do the grades say? Pretty similar. ESPN believes both teams benefitted equally and earned a B+ in the deal. Advertisement On the San Fran side, Seth Walder writes: "This is a pretty reasonable play for San Francisco. As poorly as Huff played last season, there's still plenty to like in his history, and his pass rush win rate remained solid despite his struggles. "Though that shows Huff slowing down, it's still a better-than-average get-off for an edge rusher." The best part of the deal for the 49ers is the cost financially. Huff had restructured his contract with Philly to make this work, allowing San Francisco to just under $8 million for the year. Philadelphia is stuck paying more, but the restructure is much more beneficial than being responsible for his three-year, $51.1 million contract without the player. The Eagles benefit as they get to unload a player who did not meet on-field expectations last season and be rewarded with a high Day 3 draft pick. Advertisement "From 2020 to 2022, Huff recorded a 26% pass rush win rate at edge -- a top-10 number at the position had he qualified ..." Walder continued about Huff's 10-sack season that earned him that contract ahead of last year. "His win rate fell to a career-low 19% (which is still higher than average), but the sacks weren't there (2.5) and his playing time dipped before he missed time in the second half of the season to have wrist surgery." The Eagles still have a loaded roster and this departure shouldn't do too much to their pass rush depth with them bringing back a collection of formidable pieces in Nolan Smith Jr., Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche. Plus, Philadelphia gets to save a bit of cap space by shipping off some of Huff's contract. Everything seems even right now, but that's the funny thing about grading trades with over three months until the season starts. Things can happen one way or another to cause drastic reconsideration for the true winner here. Advertisement The Niners are banking on reuniting Huff with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh (his head coach during his career-year with the New York Jets in 2023) will pay major dividends. Texas extends offer to elite four-star 2027 DL DeMarco Jenkins Texas landed a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Dylan Berymon late Saturday night, their first at the position in the 2026 class. The Longhorns were doing work on the 2027 cycle this weekend as well. They extended an offer to four-star defensive lineman DeMarco Jenkins he announced via his social media after his visit. Jenkins now has 19 total offers. Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, and Houston have all offered and tried to keep him in the Lone Star State. Oklahoma and Nebraska are two of his other big offers. 247Sports composite rankings have Jenkins listed as the No. 272 overall recruit in the country, the No. 30 defensive lineman, and the No. 40 prospect in Texas. Jenkins had a pretty productive sophomore campaign for Pearland High School. He produced 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and three sacks. The next step for the Longhorns will be to get Jenkins on campus for an official visit.
