Mahesh Babu Ditches Body Double For SS Rajamouli's Next, Performs Own Stunts
SSMB29, directed by SS Rajamouli, stars Mahesh Babu in a globe-trotting adventure with high-risk action sequences.
Mahesh Babu is set to take on a more physically demanding role in his much-anticipated collaboration with SS Rajamouli. As per recent reports, the actor will perform his own high-octane stunts in SSMB29, ditching the use of a body double. Earlier, this was done by Prabhas and Ram Charan as they also took on their own action sequences while working with Rajamouli in previous films.
Touted as a globe-trotting action-adventure, SSMB29 is shaping up to be one of Telugu cinema's most ambitious projects. The film is being shot across various locations in India and abroad, with the scale and vision expected from a Rajamouli directorial.
According to Telugu Cinema, Mahesh Babu's decision to handle the action scenes himself is intended to bring more authenticity to the film's thrilling moments. The filmmakers reportedly want Mahesh to be front and centre in all the action, rather than relying heavily on stunt doubles.
In a related update, acclaimed cinematographer Senthil Kumar, known for his work in Magadheera, Baahubali: The Beginning, and RR, has revealed that he will not be part of this film. Speaking to Telugu 360, Kumar said, 'It's Rajamouli's call. He wanted to try someone new for SSMB29, which is why I'm not working as the cinematographer."
Meanwhile, the production is reportedly moving ahead at a brisk pace, though the makers have kept most details tightly under wraps. A Deccan Chronicle report mentioned that Mahesh Babu will feature in a fast-paced solo dance number, shot on a large marketplace set built on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
In another interesting development, Priyanka Chopra has filmed a special scene in the movie that includes the Mayurbhanj Chhau dance. This was confirmed by the choreographer via an Instagram post.
Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli has dropped cinematographer Senthil Kumar from SSMB19. Though the two worked together on several of Rajamouli's blockbusters, including RRR and Baahubali, they will not be working together for SSMB29. Recently, Kumar confirmed the same and revealed that Rajamouli decided to move ahead with someone else.
'It was Rajamouli's call. He wanted to try someone else. People want to do different films with different people, right? So it is a good break," Senthil Kumar told Telugu360.
The cinematographer also clarified that the decision has not impacted his equation with Rajamouli. 'We've been working together since 2003, but we didn't always do films back-to-back. There were breaks earlier too. I couldn't do 'Maryada Ramanna' or 'Vikramarkudu' because I was working on other projects. Gaps have happened before also, but the relationship continues," he added.

Matthew Perry's Doctor Pleads Guilty To Supplying Ketamine To 'Friends' Star
During a hearing in Los Angeles, the doctor admitted to supplying four counts of illegal distribution of the drug, which is used as a prescription anaesthetic. Late actor Matthew Perry's doctor Salvador Plasencia on Wednesday pleaded guilty to giving 'Friends' star ketamine before his tragic death. During a hearing in Los Angeles, the doctor admitted to supplying four counts of illegal distribution of the drug, which is used as a prescription anaesthetic. Salvador Plasencia will face a statutory maximum sentence of ten years in federal prison for each count at his sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for December 3, the US Attorney's Office of the Central District of California said in a press statement, as per CNN. He has also been directed to surrender his medical license within the next 30-45 days, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Plasencia took a plea deal in June in which he admitted to distributing ketamine without a legitimate medical purpose to the 'Friends' star, who died of an overdose in October 2023. In exchange, prosecutors dropped charges of falsifying medical records and additional counts of distribution, Variety reported. The lone remaining defendant in the case, Jasveen Sangha, nicknamed the 'Ketamine Queen," is scheduled to face a trial next month. She is alleged to have maintained a stash house in North Hollywood for the illicit distribution of the drug. Plasencia faces a theoretical maximum of 40 years behind bars, but is likely to receive far less than that under federal sentencing guidelines. Saiyaara Getting A Sequel After Blockbuster Success? Shaan, Who Played Mahesh Iyer, REACTS
Last Updated: Saiyaara fans are speculating a sequel featuring Krish, Vaani and Mahesh. Shaan R Grover responds to the buzz and shares emotional fan reactions. After Saiyaara's box office storm, fans are already dreaming about a sequel and now, one of the film's key characters is reacting to the buzz. While Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's characters Krish Kapoor and Vaani Batra find a fairytale ending in Mohit Suri's romantic drama, fans haven't stopped thinking about the antagonist, Mahesh Iyer, played by Shaan R Grover. In an interview with Zoom, Shaan shared his thoughts on the possibility of Saiyaara 2. 'As far as my character is concerned, a lot can be done later. Mahesh just vanished; it was abrupt," he said, before adding, 'Maybe it can be explored if these characters decide to go on a different journey. What if Vaani wants to meet Mahesh one last time, that could be a different character arc for Krish. There are no talks for the sequel right now. It depends on YRF and Mohit Suri." Interestingly, AI-generated fan art showing Krish and Vaani as parents has been going viral, further fuelling speculation about a sequel. Shaan also revealed how he and Aneet Padda prepared for the emotionally complex dynamic between their characters. 'Aneet and I had chemistry workshops. They were for us to bond with each other. When we have rehearsed, those scenes flow easily," he said. 'It was also to show that we dated for five years. For the backstory in the original script I had read, we had dated for five years and that's a long relationship. It shouldn't have felt that we met 2-3 months ago." On playing a morally grey character, he confessed, 'Of course, it is not easy to play such characters. I am not Mahesh Iyer. That's not how I function… A friend of mine experienced something similar and couldn't stop crying while watching Aneet's performance. Her 7-year-long relationship broke because her partner didn't want to marry and then ghosted her. That's when I realised that people like Mahesh do exist." Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara released in theatres on July 18 and has since crossed Rs 150 crore at the box office.
