Former boxing world champion undergoes brain surgery after being rushed to hospital when he collapsed in the ring
The Japanese southpaw collapsed in the ring as the result of his rematch with Taduran, which he lost via split decision, was announced before being stretchered out of the arena.

The former IBF light-flyweight champion was immediately rushed to the hospital after losing consciousness following the gruelling war, in which he failed to exact revenge on Taduran.
The 25-year-old, who was undefeated before his consecutive losses to his Filipino foe, currently remains in a medically induced coma.
And the emergency craniotomy, which involves removing part of the patient's skull, that he underwent has brought about the end of his career.
An update from his representatives read: "According to JBC [Japanese Boxing Commission], Japanese Former IBF Champion Ginjiro Shigeoka has suffered from an acute subdural hematoma and has already undergone a craniotomy.

"The commission has already enforced that Shigeoka has to retire from boxing following his craniotomy procedure.'
Japanese Boxing Council rules prohibit boxers who have undergone any type of brain surgery from holding licenses, even if they make a full recovery.
Shigeoka, the younger brother of former WBC light-flyweight titleholder Yudai, currently remains under observation.

And it will take the best part of a week before his condition becomes clear.
Tsuyoshi Yasukochi, the JBC's Secretary General, said: 'The definite information is that he has an acute right subdural hematoma.

'He underwent emergency craniotomy immediately after the match and is currently under observation.

"It will take about a week to know his condition. He is asleep under anaesthesia.
"We will continue to monitor his condition from now on."

Mark Chapman will be first of new trio to host Saturday's Match of the Day
MARK CHAPMAN WILL present the BBC's first Match of the Day Saturday highlights programme this weekend, the PA news agency understands. Chapman is part of a three-person presenting line-up alongside Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan, who will work on rotation this season following the departure of former lead presenter Gary Lineker. PA understands Chapman will be the first of the trio to host the flagship Saturday night show. It is understood Cates will host a programme on Wednesday consisting of UEFA Super Cup highlights and a look ahead to the new Premier League season, while Logan will host Match of the Day's Sunday night programme this week. Advertisement The BBC announced on 15 January that Cates, Chapman and Logan would be the new presenting team. The news came following weeks of speculation about who would take over from Lineker after he said last year that he was stepping down. The 64-year-old had long intended the final Match of the Day of last season, on 26 May, to be the last time he would present the highlights programme but he was planning to stay on to front the BBC's live coverage of the FA Cup and 2026 World Cup. Earlier in the month however he announced he was bringing forward his departure following a social media row in which he shared a post about Zionism featuring a depiction of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic trope. Arne Slot: Liverpool need a little adjustment defensively for Bournemouth clash
Arne Slot demanded Liverpool tighten up defensively before Friday's Premier League curtain-raiser after allowing Crystal Palace to come back and win the Community Shield in a penalty shootout at Wembley. Hugo Ekitike – one of four summer signings in Slot's starting XI – scored in the fourth minute of his competitive Reds debut, assisted by fellow new addition Florian Wirtz, an opener subsequently cancelled out by Jean-Philippe Mateta's 17th minute penalty. Jeremie Frimpong opened his own Liverpool account to restore their lead shortly afterwards, but Ismaila Sarr's 77th-minute equaliser ultimately forced penalties, decided by Northern Ireland international Justin Devenny as Palace came out on top 3-2 in the shootout. "I think in the whole pre-season we saw that we are able to create more and we are more comfortable on the ball, we create more opportunities, chances, we dominate maybe even more," said Slot. Liverpool kick off their Premier League title defence on Friday night, hosting Bournemouth at Anfield, where Slot hopes to see swift improvement. He added: "In general there were not many chances because they went to a low block (and) we had a lot of ball possession. But after the 2-2 they had (chances), so it needs maybe a little bit of adjustment defensively at the moment because we don't concede a lot of chances but we do concede goals at the moment." And while Slot was pleased for his newcomers, the Dutch boss expects they would have happily traded their goals for a better result. He said: "I think it's always nice to score a goal. Not only for (Ekitike), also for Jeremie Frimpong – if you are starting your career at a new club. But it would have been even nicer to win a game of football because I think that's more important than scoring a goal."
