FAQs
Jason Hong just wanted to visit his old Cessna on his 75th birthday, instead, he walked into a mystery that still hasn't been solved, as per a report. On July 27, Hong arrived at his hangar at Corona Municipal Airport in Southern California, only to find his 1958 Cessna Skyhawk missing, as per an Independent report. He shared that, "I got confused," adding, "I thought, 'did I park it somewhere else, did the airport manager move it?' But I looked all over," as quoted in the report. He hadn't flown the plane recently, he doesn't much anymore, but now it wasn't where he left it and no one knew why or who stole it, according to the Independent report. After asking around, Hong learned someone had been flying his plane across Southern California, that too, not once, but at least twice, as per the report.ALSO READ: Foreign royal family now owns more of London than King Charles, and the numbers are alarming He reported it missing and waited. Then came a call from the La Verne Police Department as the plane had been found at Brackett Field Airport , about 25 miles northeast of Corona Municipal Airport, as reported by the Independent. When he got there, Hong found his aircraft intact, no real damage, just garbage and cigarette butts left in the cockpit, as per the report. He pulled out the battery to prevent any further joyrides for the theif, and then he made plans to return the following weekend to clean it up and check it over if whoever snatched his plane had not damaged the aircraft, according to the Independent report. But when he returned on August 3 to the airport to start working on his plane, the plane was gone missing again, as per the report. After he reported about his missing plane, this time, the El Monte Police Department called because the plane had been found at San Gabriel Valley Airport, 18 miles from west of Brackett Field Airport, according to the Independent report. When he went to the airport to find his plane, he saw that whoever took it had installed a new battery, as per the report.ALSO READ: Biggest copyright case ever certified could cost the AI industry billions - industry warns of financial ruin Sergeant Robert Montanez of the Corona Police Department pointed out that the whole situation is unusual, saying that the plane "keeps disappearing out of the blue," as quoted by the Independent.Since people don't usually steal planes and is so rare that the Corona Police Department had to give Hong paperwork meant for stolen cars to make his report about his missing jet, as per the report.Montanez said that unfortunately for police and Hong, there's no surveillance video available that captured images of the theif pilot, and "no real leads," as quoted by the Independent.According to the report, Hong used Flight Aware to track recent flights and saw that the plane flew twice on his birthday, including one flight that left at 1:30 am, according to the report.Hong assumed based on the number of flights and the times at which the pilot was traveling that whoever is flying his plane has flight training, as "landing is not easy," as quoted by the Independent. The mystery pilot reportedly also knows how to maintain a plane as Hong pointed out that in order to change the battery, the pilot would have to have both the tools and the knowledge needed to complete the job, according to the report. He also estimated that along with a new battery, the tools needed to do the repair, and a new headset he found inside the cockpit, theif would have mostly spent hundreds of dollars just to keep his old Cessna in the sky, as reported by the Independent. The 75 year old said, "Someone breaks into your house, they're looking for jewelry or cash right?" adding, "But in this case, what's the purpose? It's like someone breaks my window, and then they put a new one up," as quoted in the report. However, Hong has now chained his airplane at the San Gabriel Valley Airport and will not be flying it until he can get an inspection done on the plane and even though, for now, his plane is likely secured, but Hong is no closer to learning who keeps taking his plane and why, as reported by The Independent. At Corona Municipal Airport in Southern California. At least twice and flown without Hong's permission each time.

Who is Ethan Guo? US influencer, 19, stranded in Antarctica after landing plane without permission
Ethan Guo, a 19-year-old American influencer, set out on a mission to raise money for cancer research by flying to all seven continents, according to The Independent. Last year, 19-year-old Ethan Guo aimed to be the youngest to fly solo to all seven continents, raising funds for childhood cancer research.(AP) But his journey hit a serious roadblock when he landed his small plane without permission in Chilean territory in Antarctica. He has been stranded there since June. According to officials, Guo provided false flight plan information before landing, which led to an official investigation into his actions. Who is Ethan Guo? Last year, the 19-year-old made news by trying to become the youngest person to fly solo to all seven continents while raising money for childhood cancer research. His plan included a stop in Antarctica, but authorities say he lied by giving 'false flight plan data.' Prosecutors said he was only allowed to fly over Punta Arenas but flew farther south to Antarctica in his Cessna 182Q, a small single-engine plane. Guo was charged on June 29 with providing false information to ground control and landing without permission. On Monday, a judge dropped the charges after an agreement with his lawyers and Chile's prosecutors. The deal requires Guo to donate $30,000 to a children's cancer foundation within 30 days to avoid trial. He must leave the country as soon as possible and cannot reenter Chile for three years. After the ruling, Guo said in a text message he was 'relieved by the outcome.' He has stayed at a military base for six weeks since being charged. He was not forced to stay there but had to remain in Chilean territory. Because of harsh winter conditions, no flights have been available, and he has not been able to fly his Cessna. Guo said he is talking with his lawyer about whether he can fly it. 'I remain in Antarctica awaiting approval for my departure flight,' Guo told AP. 'I sincerely hope they give it to me soon so that I and my plane can continue with my original mission.' The prosecutor's office said Guo must pay all costs for his 'aircraft security and personal maintenance' during his stay at the military base. He also has to cover all expenses for his return trip.

Security stepped up in upper Assam amid Ulfa-I boycott call for Independence Day
Dibrugarh: With banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) calling for a complete boycott of Independence Day celebrations on Aug 15, security forces have heightened vigilance across upper Assam districts, anticipating possible disruptions by the proscribed outfit. Authorities have intensified security measures in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts — once considered strongholds of Ulfa (I). Intelligence reports suggest that these areas still harbour a significant number of youths sympathetic to the group's ideology. These individuals, often referred to as linkmen or overground workers (OGWs), allegedly provide logistical support to the outfit and have been known to assist in executing attacks during national events. The threat is not unfounded. In 2004, Ulfa orchestrated a bomb blast during an Independence Day parade at Dhemaji College, killing 18 people, mostly schoolchildren. The memory of that attack looms large as security agencies brace for potential violence. Recently, a crucial security review meeting was held in Dibrugarh on Aug 8 to assess preparedness in the five districts. Chaired by inspector general of police (security) Imdadul Bora, the meeting included top officials such as IGP (operations) Jitmol Doley, IGP (north east range) Satya Raj Hazarika, and Dibrugarh SSP Rakesh Reddy. Speaking on the security arrangements, Dibrugarh SSP Rakesh Reddy on Tuesday said, "Given the approaching 79th Independence Day celebrations, we have significantly enhanced security measures throughout the district to ensure peaceful festivities. Our primary objective is to create an environment where citizens can celebrate our nation's independence without any apprehension or fear." The SSP added that the comprehensive security strategy includes multiple layers of protection. Police checkpoints have been established at all entry and exit points, with intensive inspection drives targeting private and commercial vehicles as well as two-wheelers. Security forces have been specifically assigned to protect vital installations throughout the district, including oil and gas pipelines, power stations, transmission towers, major bridges, railway stations, airport, markets, and public gathering places. "Security measures include intensified patrolling, night-domination exercises, and anti-sabotage checks at key locations. Beyond regular checkpoint operations, intensive patrols are being conducted along inter-district borders, highways, roads, railway tracks, bridges, and river embankments to maintain constant surveillance. River patrolling has also been stepped up," the SSP said. Special attention is being paid to high-risk areas, including the Dibrugarh airport, Bogibeel Bridge, railway stations, and industrial units — potential targets for militant activity. The Khanikar parade ground, the official venue for Independence Day events in Dibrugarh, has also been fortified with multiple layers of security.
