‘Get up or I'll get you up': Flight passenger slapped for refusing to give up seat

Shocking scenes unfolded at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota on Sunday night after a man violently slapped a woman across the face for refusing to give up a seat at a Colombian terminal, sparking a full-scale brawl in the terminal. Footage of the ordeal, now widely circulated online, shows Hector Santacruz confronting Claudia Segura after she took a seat next to his wife, which he claimed was already occupied. According to reports from the Daily Mail and local outlet El Tiempo, the incident occurred while Santacruz had stepped away. Segura said she found only one empty chair when she arrived at the packed gate area, 'I didn't have any bags or clothes on me to indicate it was occupied, so I sat down,' she explained. Santacruz's wife, Karen, had informed Segura that the seat was occupied, but she was finishing a work related call and stayed seated. When Santacruz returned, he demanded she vacate the spot and became irritated when she refused. 'Get up or I'll get you up,' he warned, before asking someone nearby to film the confrontation. He then knocked the phone from Segura's hand and struck her in the face. Witnesses reacted immediately, with several men rushing to her defence and shoving Santacruz away. As tensions escalated, more travellers joined the scuffle, while Santacruz attempted to fend them off, shouting aggressively. His wife also stepped in, trying to calm the chaos. Footage taken moments later showed Segura lying on the floor as airport staff attended to her injuries. She was later taken to urgent care for treatment. 'I am affected and very afraid,' she said. Santacruz was escorted away in handcuffs by airport security to the applause of onlookers. It is still unclear whether he will face formal charges, New York Post reported. His wife later released an emotional apology via Instagram. 'The person shown physically assaulting a woman is my husband. And you don't know how much it hurts me to say this out loud,' she said, adding, 'It really hurts me as a woman, as a mother.'

Two groups, one name: Abhinav Bharat dispute continues after Malegaon blast verdict

BHOPAL: As the dust settles on the special NIA court's verdict acquitting all accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast, another unresolved battle tied to the same conspiracy has resurfaced — the fight over the name Abhinav Bharat. It was alleged that the Abhinav Bharat named in the Malegaon blast had most of its members from Madhya Pradesh, operating out of Bhopal and surrounding areas. Today, the legal dispute over the name continues to play out in the Bombay High Court, keeping the Madhya Pradesh connection alive. Dr. Pankaj Phadnis, settlor and lifetime trustee of the Mumbai-based Abhinav Bharat Trust (E-19962), says his organisation was unfairly tainted by the actions of another group. 'Shri Vinayak Damodar Savarkar formed Abhinav Bharat as a secret society for attaining Absolute Independence in 1905. It was a progressive, secular organisation. In 2001, we formed Abhinav Bharat to attain Economic and Social Independence, inspired by the book Freedom Struggle – The Unfinished Story. Why and when the people of Pune formed a group and called it Abhinav Bharat to establish a Hindu Raj where all minorities were to be second-class citizens remains a mystery to us,' he told TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo The Pune-based trust (E-4767), registered in 2007, became infamous after Maharashtra ATS alleged that its members were involved in plotting the Malegaon blast. Although registered in Pune, investigators traced several of its meetings and alleged operations to Bhopal and nearby towns in Madhya Pradesh, linking the state directly to the conspiracy's footprint. In his petition, Phadnis pointed out, 'Unknown to us, another Trust by the same name — E-4767 — came to be registered in Pune sometime in 2007. In 2008, the ATS arrested several persons said to be associated with this Pune trust for allegedly committing heinous crimes.' He added, 'We moved an application before the Charity Commissioner to deregister the Pune Trust on the ground that they could not have been allowed in 2007 to use the SAME name already allotted to us in 2002. ' The Charity Commissioner, while acknowledging the issue, rejected the application on July 7, 2010, stating there was no specific provision in the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950, against granting the same name to multiple trusts. 'We then filed Writ Petition 2942 of 2011 in the High Court of Bombay. During the proceedings, the Government of Maharashtra filed an affidavit confirming that none of the members of Abhinav Bharat Pune were involved in illegal activities. The High Court admitted our petition on December 18, 2012, and it is still pending for final hearing,' Phadnis said. Post-2008, the Mumbai-based trust continued its work, sponsoring a PhD study on primary education, receiving a Tata Trust grant for a peace seminar in 2017, and signing an MoU with Southern University, Louisiana, in 2019. Yet the shadow of the Pune trust lingers.
