Titles of Datuk, Tan Sri not for sale: King

By: Bernama Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim ( pic ), the King of Malaysia, stressed that federal awards of orders, stars and medals are not for sale or lobbying, but are only given to individuals who are truly deserving and have rendered service to the government and the country. Sultan Ibrahim said that although the government has outlined the conditions for consideration, he will still re-evaluate each proposed candidate. 'In my view, only individuals who have served and rendered service to the government for a long time, or who have brought glory to the country, should be accepted. Indeed, not many pass the conditions every year. Although there are parties who lobby, I will not entertain them. 'The titles of Datuk and Tan Sri are not for sale. If you have a lot of money, do charity, help the poor and needy,' said His Majesty. In this regard, the King said that the successful recipients today should appreciate and be proud of the awards they have been bestowed with. Sultan Ibrahim said this at the investiture ceremony for 2025, held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the King at Istana Negara here today. Also present at the ceremony was Her Majesty, Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen of Malaysia. Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Cabinet Ministers. Meanwhile, the King also expressed his gratitude to the entire nation for the wishes and prayers that always accompany him in every step he takes in carrying out his duties and responsibilities as the Head of State. 'I would also like to express my gratitude to all parties who have made all the events in conjunction with my birthday celebration this year a success. Malaysia-Russia cooperation to deepen with upcoming JC-ESTC meeting
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia-Russia bilateral cooperation will be further strengthened through the Malaysia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation (JC-ESTC), scheduled to be held in Malaysia this year. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the meeting in November would, among other things, discuss proposals to expand scholarship programmes and developments in various initiatives under the JC-ESTC. 'Special focus will also be given to preparations for the Malaysia-Russia Mineral Resources Dialogue and the Higher Education Forum, two key platforms to be held concurrently with the JC-ESTC Meeting. 'These events are expected to bring together industry leaders, academics and researchers from both countries to enhance bilateral cooperation,' he said in a Facebook statement today. The meeting follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Russia last month, during which he tasked several ministries, including the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE), with follow-up responsibilities. Zambry said the plans were discussed during a courtesy call by Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Naiyl Latypov yesterday evening. 'I believe that cooperation between Malaysia and Russia will continue to be explored to build more networks across various fields, thereby creating greater opportunities and successes for the people of both nations. 'The strong commitment shown by the Russian government, which also recognises Malaysia's education system as one of the best hubs in the region, underscores the need for local institutions of higher learning to continuously improve their performance,' the statement read.

Sabah China Chamber of Commerce re-elects Frankie for third term

Held at the Sabah Golf and Country Club in Bukit Padang, the session saw strong participation, with 78 members in attendance. A total of 29 committee members were elected unopposed for the 2025–2028 term, reflecting unity and trust within the Chamber. The new committee will convene within two weeks to finalise leadership roles in accordance with SCCC's constitution. 'I am humbled by our members' trust. We will continue strengthening Sabah's economic ties, both regionally and globally,' said Frankie, expressing gratitude for the renewed mandate. Key leaders, including Brett Chua, Datuk Jonathan Koh and Datuk Simon Teoh, were among the newly elected committee members. In a major development, SCCC confirmed a business delegation to Zhengzhou, China, from Sept 24–28, for the International Business and Trade Expo. The mission aims to showcase Sabah's potential in agriculture, tourism, logistics, halal products and green technology while facilitating partnerships through MoUs and networking sessions.
