FIVE TO FOLLOW
OH DIAMOND LIL (0.9-length 1st of 12, Race 4) had been trialling up a storm prior to her return at Scone. She had never won first-up previously and was vulnerable at 1300m but she settled nicely in behind the leaders until the top of the straight where she seized control of the race and drew clear for a comfortable win. Oh Diamond Lil is an emerging mare and will only improve the deeper she goes into her preparation.

SPANISH FOX (2-length 3rd of 15, Race 6) won five races in succession when last in work and his second-up effort at Scone when third to ZEALOUSLY in very fast time was encouraging. He is ready to win in the right grade next start.

AKAYSHA (1.4-length 3rd of 16, Race 3) drew wide and was ridden conservatively early, drifting back to near last in the Woodland Stakes. On the home turn, she was in front of only one horse and simply had too much to do but still ran on strongly to finish third. Talented filly and is a stakes-winner in waiting.

GENTILESCHI (0.1-length 2nd of 15, Race 5) was having only her second run back and was out to 1700m but her effort to finish the closest of seconds was eye-catching. She charged home wide out to just miss at Scone and will be at her peak next start.

Godolphin fillies THAMES (0.6-length 3rd of 15, Race 7) and PHOTOGRAPH (1.8-length 9th of 15, Race 7) had no luck in the Denise's Joy Stakes. Thames struck trouble on the turn before charging home to lose by only a half length. Photograph never got clear galloping room in the straight and wasn't tested before finishing ninth, beaten less than two lengths.

WHINCHAT (0.2-length 2nd of 15, Race 10) was having his first start in over a year and set track record-breaking pace in front only to be collared in the final few bounds by the race-fit and in-form THE INSTRUCTOR in the Luskin Star Stakes. Whinchat can only be improved by his game comeback run.

CRUNCH TIME
ZEALOUSLY (Race 6) gave a brilliant display of sustained speed to score a commanding win. He was hand-timed to run the Scone 1100m in 1m 02.13s – no horse has ever gone faster over the course and distance.
CABALLUS (Race 8) showed impressive acceleration to reel in tough frontrunner The Novelist to win the Ortensia Stakes. Caballus was timed to run his final 300m in a tick over 33s.

MELODY AGAIN (Race 9) broke the race record to win the Dark Jewel Classic, recording 1m 21.23s for the Scone 1400m. Her winning time was only a tick outside the track record of 1m 21.12s that was set by Cavalier Charles three years ago.

STARDOM (Race 3) set a new race record for the Woodland Stakes when she ran the 1100m in 1m 03.07s, breaking the previous standard set by dual Group 1 winner In Secret of 1m 03.75s.
THE INSTRUCTOR (Race 10) set another race record when he won the Luskin Star Stakes, stopping the clock at 1m 14.41s for the Scone 1300m. He broke the previous mark by 0.08s.

STEWARDS SAY
CABALLUS (Race 8) was found to have bled from both nostrils after winning the Ortensia Stakes and has incurred a three-month ban from racing. RENOSU, who ran eighth behind Caballus, was also found to have bled and is out of racing for three months.
THAMES (Race 7) improved into a tight run between WAVE BREAKER and SHOHISHA on the turn then was buffeted between those runners. Due to contact on its hindquarter Shohisha was then turned out into the running of Thames, resulting in Thames becoming badly unbalanced before that filly ran on strongly for third.
PHOTOGRAPH (Race 7) ran only ninth but was very unlucky. After passing the 200m she was checked when disappointed for a run between LADY OLENNA and GERRINGONG. Photograph then had difficulty obtaining clear running, before being held up over the final 50m and went to the line without being fully tested.
GENTILESCHI (Race 5) finishing powerfully wide out to just miss behind Cormac T. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the connections of Gentileschi requested to view the official photo finish for first placing. Once Stewards were satisfied there was a margin between Cormac T and Gentileschi, correct weight was declared.
JUMEIRAH BEACH (Race 1) was slow to begin and was then shuffled back near the rear of the field when awkwardly placed on heels. Jumeirah Beach was not suited when the race developed into a sprint home from the 600m.

RON DUFFICY'S SCONE SNAPSHOT
RUN OF THE DAY: Caballus had been nurtured back to health and was terrific winning with dominance first-up looking like a possible Stradbroke type. Unfortunately his campaign come to an abrupt halt with him being found to have bled from both nostrils so they have to start from scratch again.
FORGET THEY RAN: Thames didn't have the best of luck in the Denise's Joy Stakes never really getting balanced and should have made it interesting.
HORSE TO FOLLOW: Oh Diamand Lil and been carefully handled by trainer David Pfieffer working through the grades. She is a mare that is ready to take the next step into black type grade.
RIDE OF THE DAY: Jace McMurray is a new name to Sydney racing after having a good grounding with nice success on the Gold Coast. He looked very polished with his winning ride on Fiorsum Fred and should get more opportunities fall his way.

Dewald Brevis breaks T20 record as South Africa crushes Australia
A ruthless South Africa has dealt Australia a crushing 53-run defeat in Darwin off the back of a record-breaking knock by Dewald Brevis. In the second T20I of the five-match white ball series, the visitors punished Australia's below-par bowling efforts to level the series 1-1. The win follows South Africa's highest total against Australia in a T20I (7/218) and the highest total scored by a batter in Australia — Brevis' 125 not out besting Shane Watson's unbeaten 124 against India in 2016. Picture: Getty Images The hosts elected to bowl after winning the toss and quickly piled on the pressure with the visitors wading water at 3/57 in the seventh over. However, the efforts of 22-year-old Brevis shocked the crowd with a blistering maiden century in which he made 12 fours and cleared the rope eight times. His punishing knock included 40 runs from 10 balls punishing Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood in particular in the 12th and 13th over. Brevis' innings was intertwined with luck when dropped by substitute fielder Matthew Kuhnemann at deep wicket on 56, but steered by power hitting which captivated the Top End crowd. Talking about his record-breaking performance Brevis said his big-hitting aggressive style comes naturally to him. 'That's just my natural way of hitting,' he said. 'I just want to go out there and enjoy it and have fun. 'If it's there it happens. I don't try to do it, I'm just trying to be myself, have fun and watch the ball.' David steadied the ship for a while alongside his skipper Mitch Marsh (22) in a near half ton stand that brought some parity to the innings. His blistering knock, including four sixes with another bouncing off the Marrara Stadium roof, came to an end when he toed the ball Kagiso Rabada. And when Maxwell (16) was sent packing from a fine Brevis catch in the following over Australia were well and truly on the back foot. From there the Aussies all fell quite quickly, all out for 165 in the 18th, bringing their record nine-straight win streak to a dramatic end. Australia's best in the field Ben Dwarshuis (2-24) said the bowling unit were lost for ideas on how to contain Brevis having 'rattled through' a few plans of attack. '(The) wicket was a little bit slow and a little bit low and a bit tough at times,' he said. A NIGHT OF ODDITIES A bit of everything was going on across both innings. Mitch Owen was another who had an eventful night, hit on the grill and was gifted an extra life at the crease. Owen was on the receiving end of a quick Kagiso Rabada delivery that struck the backside of his bat before finishing in the middle of his grill. A few overs later Owen was then given an extra life by the cricketing gods as the ball hit the stumps, causing the lights to go off, before landing back down in place. He was bowled out not long after, this time the stumps staying out. Alex Carey had a night to remember in his first T20 since 2021, taking the run-out of Pretorius in strange circumstances the South Australian's bat snapped at the handle. Carey then blasted the ensuing ball over the rope with his new blade. As for the South Africans it was the work of Nqaba Peter that nearly delivered us another Herschelle Gibbs like moment. Peter took the stunning catch of Cam Green however it was what he did during his celebration that drew suspicion. Having dived to catch the ball he quickly leapt to his feet still in control of the ball. In the process of throwing the ball in the air it spilled out of his hand onto the ground. However, he was given the benefit of the doubt after review sending Green on his way. Young South African star makes history as Aussies blown off the park
Dewald Brevis etched his name into the record books on Tuesday night as he blasted Australia to level up the series at 1-1. The 22-year-old registered the highest score by a South African player in T20I history, finishing with an 125 from 56 balls that featured 12 boundaries and eight sixes at Marrara Stadium. In only his ninth T20I he steered the Proteas to 7/218, making it the nation's highest total against Australia. His stellar display with the willow also saw him become the youngest South African to score a T20I century with his innings only second to David Miller's 35-ball century as the fastest ever for the nation. In response Australia couldn't muster the same energy with the willow as the batting order fell well short in reply, ultimately being bowled out for 165. After Travis Head and Cameron Green departed for minimal scoreboard impact, Mitch Marsh and Tim David united to get the Aussies back on track. The power hitting duo began to turn the tide as they combined for a 48-run stand in less than four overs. But it came to an end when Marsh holed out off the bowling of Corbin Bosch, leaving David once again to resurrect the innings. Following his blistering 83 runs in the opening game of the series, he looked on track for another monster score. But it wasn't to be. On the 23rd ball of his innings he registered his half century, on the 24th ball he was sent on his way. Glenn Maxwell departed in the next over with Australia stuck at 5/112 with nine overs left in the contest. While the lower order didn't roll over, the contest was effectively decided when David walked back into the dressing room. Alex Carey returned to the T20 squad for the first time since 2021 and registered the second highest score for the Aussies with 26 runs from 18 balls. The result means the series will now be decided in the third and final clash which will take place at Cazalys Stadium in Cairns on Saturday night.
