Retro gaming YouTuber faces possible jail in Italy over handheld reviews linked to copyright laws
The incident took place on April 15, when officers from the Guardia di Finanza executed a search warrant related to the alleged promotion of pirated copyrighted material.
Over 30 handheld consoles from brands including ANBERNIC, Powkiddy, and TrimUI were seized, along with the creator's phone, which was returned two months later.
Under Italian law, officials are not required to disclose specific charges or the complainant until the initial investigation concludes. At that stage, the case will either be dismissed or proceed to trial.
The complaint reportedly concerns the reproduction of copyrighted material from companies such as Nintendo and Sony, with the case potentially originating from the agency itself. Currently, the creator's channel may be shut down during the investigation, a step that can occur before any legal finding is made.
Italian authorities are citing Article 171 ter of the Italian Copyright Law, originally drafted in 1941, which allows for a maximum penalty of €15,000 and up to three years in prison.
The YouTuber has stated that reviews of devices like the ANBERNIC RG Slide were conducted without sponsorship or affiliate links and expressed compliance with the investigation.

Italy cracks down on fashion sector
A few unlawful businesses in the fashion supply chain have tainted the image of 'Made in Italy', Italy's industry minister said on Tuesday, adding that he is working on a certification scheme to remedy this after the latest high profile case. Cashmere company Loro Piana, controlled by French luxury group LVMH, was put under judicial administration last week after prosecutors uncovered evidence of worker abuses in its supply chain. The label was the fifth high-end brand to undergo such court monitoring in Italy since early 2024. "We cannot allow the illicit behaviour of a few to compromise the reputation of the entire sector, penalising many virtuous companies and, consequently, our Made in Italy brand, which is a symbol of excellence and quality," minister Adolfo Urso told fashion trade bodies during a meeting, according to a source. The ministry is working on a measure to certify the sustainability and legality of companies in the supply chain in advance, he added, so that brands do not have to answer for the conduct of their suppliers or subcontractors. Units of fashion brands Valentino, Dior, Armani and Italian handbag company Alviero Martini were previously placed under administration in Italy for similar alleged worker exploitation. In the case of Loro Piana, the Court of Milan found it "culpably failed" to adequately oversee its suppliers in order to pursue higher profits, according to the ruling. Prosecutors in that case said the violation of rules among fashion companies in Italy was "a generalised and consolidated manufacturing method". Italy is home to thousands of small manufacturers that make up 50 to 55 per cent of global luxury goods production, consultancy Bain has calculated. Italian legal and political authorities, fashion industry bodies and trade unions signed an action plan in May to fight worker exploitation in the apparel and accessories supply chain, after prosecutors uncovered widespread abuse. Sinner re-appoints former fitness coach Ferrara
LONDON: Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner has re-appointed his former fitness coach Umberto Ferrara with immediate effect, the Italian world number one confirmed on Wednesday. Sinner parted ways with Ferrara and physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi last year following the investigation into his positive tests for banned substance clostebol. 'The decision has been made in alignment with Jannik's management team as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and U.S. Open,' a statement from Sinner's team said. 'Umberto has played an important role in Jannik's development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level.' Sinner served a three-month suspension earlier this year after agreeing a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in February after authorities accepted that the anabolic agent clostebol had entered his system inadvertently via massages from Naldi at Indian Wells in March 2024. WADA had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against an independent tribunal's decision last August to clear Sinner of wrongdoing. Sinner, who returned to action in May and lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final before beating him to win Wimbledon, said clostebol, which can build muscle mass, entered his system after Naldi applied an over-the-counter spray to a cut on his own hand before carrying out treatments on Sinner. The spray had been given to Naldi by trainer Ferrara. Sinner was cleared of fault or negligence by an independent tribunal. Speaking at last year's U.S. Open, Sinner explained his decision to part ways with Ferrara and Naldi. 'Now, because of these mistakes, I'm not feeling that confident to continue with them. I was struggling a lot in the last months. I was waiting for the result. The only thing I need right now is some clean air,' he said. Ferrara, who had laid the blame for the incident on Naldi, worked with Sinner's fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini this year. Sinner, 23, had split with Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, his trainer and physiotherapist, before Wimbledon.
