Tulsa football coach Tre Lamb qualifies for Oklahoma amateur golf championship
But one coach in the heartland has turned that escape into a pretty impressive feat.
Tre Lamb, the head football coach at the University of Tulsa, earned his spot in the Oklahoma Golf Association's State Amateur Championship by firing a 3-over 75 in a qualifying event Thursday at The Club at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Lamb, 35, has yet to coach a game for Tulsa. He joined the program in December, replacing former NFL wide receiver Ryan Switzer, who took over as interim head coach for Tulsa's final game of the 2024 season after the school fired Kevin Wilson.
Lamb spent the better part of a decade as an assistant with a few different programs before landing his first head coaching job at Gardner-Webb, an FCS team. He needed just three seasons to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to their first Big South championship in nearly 20 years.
Lamb now looks to recreate that same success at a Tulsa program that has struggled recently. The Golden Hurricane have a combined record 7-17 over the last two seasons.
Before he can begin that turnaround, though, he has some business to tend to on the golf course.
The Oklahoma State Amateur takes place at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow and features an 18-hole qualifier on Monday, July 21, to determine the field for the 32-man match play bracket, which will be played out July 22-24.
Tulsa recently made headlines when it reinstated its men's golf program, which is set to begin competing again in 2026 under the tutelage of newly-named head coach Brandon Wilkins.

Where did CeeDee Lamb rank in the 2025 NFL Top 100?
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb may not have had the best weekend, but when the former Oklahoma Sooners star wears his uniform and is on the field, he remains one of the best in the NFL. The 15th iteration of the "NFL Top 100" began airing on NFL Network in June with players No. 100 to 91. This week, players No. 40 through 31 will be ranked. Most recently, Lamb, entering his sixth season in the league, checked as the NFL's 35th best player in the countdown. Lamb is coming off a season in which he caught 101 passes for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns. It marked the third straight year he caught more than 100 passes and the fourth straight in which he gained more than 1,100 yards receiving. Accordingly, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight season and named an All-Pro for the third consecutive year. His 2025 numbers did drop across the board compared to his 2024 totals. His ranking did, too. Entering last year, Lamb ranked as the No. 13 player in the league, a drop of 22 spots this year. Right next to him, at No. 36 was his Cowboys teammate, linebacker Micah Parsons. Parsons also fell from No. 17 entering last year. Dallas selected Lamb with the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. With the Sooners, he caught 173 passes for 3,292 yards and 32 touchdowns over three seasons. After his junior year, he was named a consensus All-American upon leading the Big 12 in touchdown catches with 14. His reception total ranks him second in school history behind only Ryan Broyles, while his yardage total ranks him third, behind Broyles and Sterling Shepard. The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 7-10 season in which they failed to make the playoffs for the first time since Lamb's rookie year. They open the regular season Thursday, September 4, on the road against the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. CeeDee Lamb fantasy football preview 2025: Stats, season outlook, predictions
Rotoworld Staff, CeeDee Lamb 2025 Fantasy Football Snapshot Lamb lost momentum early as Prescott's injury and his own shoulder issue impacted his 2024 production. Prescott's return plus George Pickens' arrival should open up the offense. Lamb is poised for another WR1 finish in a pass-heavy Dallas attack, making him a first-round fantasy lock. Get personalized fantasy football insights based on your league settings with FantasyLife+. Your league is unique, your advice should be too. Head to and use code ROTO20 for 20% off. 2024: Coming off a breakout year with 1,745 receiving yards and a dozen touchdowns plus another 113 yards and two scores as a runner, Lamb set the bar high for his 2024 campaign. Any hopes of an encore quickly went down the drain as the Cowboys' offense got off to a sluggish start and Lamb went six weeks without a 100-yard performance through the air. He finally erupted for 146 yards and two scores in Week 8, but Dak Prescott went down for the year with a hamstring issue the next week, sending Lamb's season packing. Lamb gutted things out through a shoulder injury until the final two weeks, which he mercifully took off. What's changed: Lamb wasn't dreadful with Rush under center, but his 21.3 PPR average in Prescott starts last year speaks for itself. Assuming Prescott plays a full year, a rebound is all but certain. That is even with George Pickens joining the team via a trade with the Steelers. Pickens dominated targets in Pittsburgh but should still settle in as the WR2 in Dallas. 2025 Outlook: The Cowboys are set up to pass early and often in 2025. Prescott is the league's highest-paid quarterback and Lamb is the third-highest-paid wideout. Dallas traded for a real No. 2 receiver and spent next to nothing on their backfield during the offseason. It's a similar setup to 2023 when Lamb ranked second in the league in receiving yards and Prescott hit third on the charts in passing yards. Lamb is a no-brainer first-round pick in fantasy drafts. **Projections from Spotlight Sports Group Go to: All players | QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs

2025 Tulsa Football Predictions: Golden Hurricanes Ranked 127th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136
College Football 2025 Tulsa Football Predictions: Golden Hurricanes Ranked 127th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 9:24 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Tulsa lands in my Ultimate 136. Tulsa ranking: 127 Last year's ranking: 119 ( in Ultimate 134 ) Top player: RB Dominic Richardson: Has appeared in 45 career games between his time at Baylor and Oklahoma State, rushing for 1,767 yards and 16 TDs. [Tulsa's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: All right, this here is my alma mater. This here is my hometown. This here is where I graduated high school. And we suck. I hate it here, bringing up the rear in a race where we're being unmercifully and tauntingly lapped. ADVERTISEMENT Enter 35-year-old Tre Lamb, who flipped Directional State Tennessee — East Tennessee State for the uninitiated (and if I offended you) — from 3-8 to 7-5 after leading Gardner-Webb to FCS playoff bids in 2022 and 2023. He inherits Kirk Francis – a local man who done good – at QB but who has yet to throw touchdowns or complete more than 59% of his passes in a season. Maybe pairing him with former All-World and Tulsa Edison RB Sevion Morrison and Baylor back Dominic Richardson will allow the offense to function with something like a pulse and not like a resident at Oaklawn Cemetery. Four-straight years of being flat out bad at a school that produced four Pro Football Hall of Famers and two first round picks in the last five years is quite enough. Fix it, Tre. Get Tulsa off this train ride to bleak obscurity before it meets its terminus in oblivion. [Check out RJ Young's Ultimate 136 College Football Rankings here] Tulsa Win Total Odds: Over 3.5 (-115) Under 3.5 (-105) Have an issue with my rankings?
